  1. i'd like to know if they would be any significant different between these two bison leather made by the hide house that would make one better for making working step in shotgun chaps. https://www.hidehouse.com/Leather/Apache-Bison-Bison-Full-Grain-Aniline-Finish-BA02-P.asp https://www.hidehouse.com/Leather/Navajo-Bison-Bison-Full-Grain-Aniline-Finish-BN22-P.asp

  9. I am just starting out with leather. Last week I went to S C Hall in Partridge Green, West Sussex to buy some leather, I bought a natural veg tan side, tan coloured shoulders and some practice leather. They had a great selection (minimum order of 1 skin) and were so helpful. All different types of hides and skins at good prices. They do not sell online as such, but would be willing to send out a sample or two. The company was previously based in Bermondsey, London so is relatively new to Sussex. Thought I would post this as the company doesn't appear easily in an internet search. NB I am not affiliated in any way, just a happy customer!
  10. It has been the craziest uphill battle to find high quality such as Horween in Canada at a decent price so that's why I decided one day to take the wheel myself and help everyone out. Purchasing leather online is one of the scariest things to do because you don't know what it will be like in person so I did my best to take as much worry out of the process as I could. I hope this is seen by people who went through what I did and understand the frustration! However thank you for taking the time to read this, I have attached a link so that anyone can come browse what we have to offer! https://www.oaleathersupply.com/ Take care!
  11. Selling 45inch long, 16 1/4 inch across the center Black glossy caiman hide. 110cm X 41cm Belly Cut Caiman Hide, Medium Gloss black. Flawless, No holes or scratches. Absolutely beautiful hide, customer changed mind so I'm stuck trying to recoup loss. CONUS shipping free, Asking $125.00 net via PayPal, use "Friends and Family" option OR add 4% for fees. (Far below market value for anything this big)
  12. I would like to skive/split and finish some entire sides of Hermann Oak leather. I'd like to get them down to 3 oz (from 8-10oz) with a good, clean looking back. Does anyone know of a place that would offer this service? (I'm aware Wicket & Craig does this in-house for their leathers, but I haven't heard the same for Hermann Oak) Thanks!
  13. I had been getting most of my hides from Sheridan Leather before they closed down (very sad- I loved that little shop), and came across a really incredible hide in their closeout sale (bought it sight unseen with little description, off their Facebook sale for essentially what was described as black garment leather), extremely supple, amazing drape/hand, buttery soft pebble grain, 2-2.5 oz, and label stated it's by a company called "Montebello", out of Italy. I've messaged Sheridan Leather on Facebook, as to where I could find another distributor of the leather, but obviously they're no longer operating so I didn't get a response. I also sent Montebello an email directly, but god knows where that went, as I haven't gotten a response from them either. Long story long: does anyone have any recommendations as to who I could contact to find similar hides? I don't know that it has to be Italian, but the hides I've gotten in attempts to find a match have been subpar, similar weight, but feel like waxy cardboard by comparison (exaggeration, but you get the picture.). Not that it would help, but probably wouldn't hinder, I've included photos of the two purses I made out of the hide.
  14. Ok so Im working on a suit of leather armor and I have an old hide that is thin enough to use for a certain part of it. Only problem is this hide is old has a bit of mold and is a little stiff (it doesnt roll up really it sorta folds) but its not rock hard and still has give and pliability to it. What (if any) steps should i take to clean up the hide, get rid of the mold and get it a bit more flexible again? Thank you all for the info in advance!
  15. I was just given a full back, hair-on horse hide from a friend. Seen many different hides but never a horse! It still has the mane and tail on it and everything. Kind of creepy as I have one of my own and she is very alive. But still pretty cool never the less. Anyways it was given to my friend by her neighbor (it was her prize show horse who she had skinned after it died) who was moving and decided to give it away for some reason. Don’t think I want to hang it on my wall like she did but I do want to make it look somewhat nice again. It’s super dry and is pretty warped. Some of the edges are very brittle and tearing. It is now in a big box that it was kinda just shoved into for what seems to be a little bit of time as it’s kinda crumpled up. I was just wondering the best way to condition it? I know there’s some hydrating spray type leather products out there for cow hide rugs. Not sure how expensive they are but I really don’t want to spend a ton of money on this thing if possible. It doesn’t have to look perfect I just want to try to spruce it back up a bit. What is the cheapest way to do this do you think? I left it at my friends so I will post some pics of it tomorrow. Thanks!
  16. I am wanting to make a breast collar for a barrel racer with angora hair sewn on the bottom side of the shoulder straps (so it hangs below the leather pieces). I’m not sure the best way to go about this, I’ve never worked with angora before. Do I need to buy a hide and sew a strip in between the top and bottom breast collar leather? Or is there a way to sew on locks (with no hide)? Any tips are appreciated! Also, i’m not sure where to buy it? Thanks in advance.
  17. I have 3 pieces of side leather for sale. First is a Muir McDonald tooling side measuring around 8' long and 15" deep. The belly is a separate cut of long pieces by about 4" each. There are also some scraps. $25. plus shipping Next is a Tandy or Hermann Oak (cannot remember!) tooling side which is also about 8' long and 19" deep. This is smooth and lighter natural than the Muir hide. $25. plus shipping Last is a John Whites England bridle butt in Newmarket. It is about 70" long and 17" deep. Bridle weight of 3.5 to 4mm. $90. plus shipping Will sell as a lot for $125. plus shipping. PM if interested. More photos available via email.
  18. I have noticed a few things made out of acid washed hair on hides. Where do you buy the hides at. The ones that pop up on the searches are not the color I want. I saw some black and pink and would like to find that or turquoise.
  19. I have been buying my leather exclusively from Tandy and have found that it is really easy to find nice white hides in very light cuts (2-3oz) but in the thicker cuts I use for dog collars (9-10oz) the leather is always quite dark tan. Is this normal for all suppliers or is it just a Tandy thing? I just finally got my Springfield Leather catalog (AWESOME!) and was thinking about getting a hide from them but was hoping for some input on this before I order. I am in Portland, Oregon so I only have a few local suppliers I can go to and actually see the hide. Is this something others have experienced? I am able to get really nice light pastel-ey colors on my lighter leather but those colors are impossible to get on my thicker leathers. It is bumming me out! Thoughts?
  20. Anyone have any weaver tool, or machines they want to sell? I'm interested in a splitter, but would like a used one if possibel. Thanks, untitled.bmp
