  1. Hey guys and gals i just finished a piece for a great customer of mine. He wanted something nice to hang on wall of his camper that would hold pistol and couple extra mags. So when he and his wife are out on road seeing some of the country he will have close access if need came along. Ive made many holsters and mag pouches but this is first time ever making wall art. Let me know what you all think.
  2. A friend asked if I could come up with a holster that he could take off/on easily when he needed to. I modified my pancake pattern yet another variant. Might make a couple of these for myself. Hermann Oak 7/8 veg tan Fiebings light brown pro dye with neatsfoot oil after drying Line 24 snaps Sewn on a Cobra class 3, 277 top and bottom, #24 needle. Wet-molded in my new vacuum rig. Thanks Adam's leather works, great video and parts list! So much cleaner! Resolene, water 50/50 2 coats
  3. Hey y’all! Just finished up a ranger style rig for my Cimarron Frontier. I’ve only got the one revolver right now but I made both a crossdraw and strongside holster so I had some options.. Someday I hope to fill them both! The holsters and belt are all made with 7-8 oz and lined with 4-5 oz. I hope to get some feedback on this, always looking to learn and improve. Cheers, Morgan
  4. I had some scrap leather left over from another project and thought I would give my first holster a try. I also made my first attempt at a spare magazine pouch with the scraps.
  5. Finished up my first holster today for a buddy of mine - he wanted a cowboy holster and mag pouch for his M&P Shield 2.0, definitely not a cowboy gun! I used 6-7 oz for the body and lined the holster with 3-4 oz. All dyed with Fiebing's light brown Pro Dye and then oiled and sealed. The end of the holster actually extends about an inch past the muzzle to keep it from looking too funky. Big thanks to Jim Simmons for his great holster tutorial!
  6. $ 600. For sale is this Ferdco 6/6 Heavy Leather Stitcher. This machines has been cleaned, refurbished and tested. It is stitching straight & tight stitches. It has both a hand operation mode and a powered operation mode. Capable of stitching up to 1" of veg tan, it's perfect harness, tack and holsters. Cash Only, no warranty provided. Just want it out of my way. Machine is very heavy. You will need a truck to move it. If you're looking for a heavy leather stitcher under $1000, this is it. Don't pass it up. I'm in Dallas, and will not ship.
  7. Here is a WIP of the holster I'm working on right now. A shot straight off the bench. Main body is done. Still needs the stiffener, the belt loop, and swivel.
  8. Like new Cobra Class 4 premium package. Used less than 1 hour. I had a holster business and Tandy Leather dealership years ago. Thought I would get back into it and changed my mind. 10. Hi all, I've been enjoying the forum and have slowly been assembling a hobby leather studio in my basement. I finally got around to making a few items, instead of just messing around. Here are some pictures. I'd appreciate any tips or critique I could use to improve future projects. My first project was a simple card wallet. I used scrap veg tan from one of those $20, 2 pound scrap bags. Edges are glued, sanded, wet burnished, and sealed with beeswax. Finish was simply some neatsfoot, and Tandy's carnauba finish wax. It has about a month of use on it at this point and the outside is darkening nicely. I punched the stitch holes from the inside out without a proper backing pad, so I'm not real happy with the stitching appearance on the outside. Also, I used bonded machine thread to do the saddle stitch, and it has gone somewhat fuzzy on the outside. Any way to prevent the fraying? My 2nd project is a holster for a rifle bolt. The leather is cheap veg tan, I bought off Amazon. The interior is fully lined with inexpensive glazed black pigskin. The outside was dyed with Fiebing's Pro Dye in Saddle Tan, with a carnauba wax finish coat. The edges were sanded, wet burnished, dyed with black industrial sharpie, burnished, beeswaxed, and polished with a cloth. The machine stitching was done on my modified Singer 95, with 138 bonded nylon, and the hand stitching was done with Tandy's braided waxed thread. I'm very happy with how things turned out, especially the saddle stitching. I had done some test pieces to set the tension on my machine, and thought I had it nailed. A little disappointed when I flipped the project over and saw that it needed more adjustment. Next time, I will probably use a black bobbin thread, because I don't think the interior stitching really adds any interest. On future leather cases like the holster, I'm interested in using an all leather arrangement for closure. Some sort of strap and loop setup. Does anyone have some examples of methods of doing this without any metal hardware?
  11. Like new Cobra Class 4 premium package. Used less than 1 hour. I had a holster business and Tandy Leather dealership years ago. Thought I would get back into it and changed my mind. Machine, several spools of thread (black, brown etc.), tool box, maule, punches, knives, bevelers, swivel knife, HD stamp/rivet press, dies for press, Clicker Dies: two types of western holsters, iwb, pancake, foldover for small caliber, cowboy cuffs (2), gun belt buckle and tongue dies, rounder, practice piece, arrow head, spur straps, iwb leather belt loop. These are high quality clicker dies with almost no wear. YOU DO NOT NEED A CLICKER TO USE DIES - you simply lay the die on concrete or other hard surface (blade up), place you leather over the die and tap around the die with a maul or mallet. In minutes you have a perfect cut out. The concealment holster dies are not shown and are steel rule/plywood dies. The press is not shown either. I forgot to mention that I have an extra motor/tabletop for the sewing machine. Also some gun molds (red gun and Duncan alum) $3800. These items are included with the machine: Premium Accessory Package: Left Toe Presser Foot $75* Open Toe Center Foot $65* Double Toe Presser Foot $80* Right Toe Presser Foot $75* Work Platform $95* Holster Plate $156* Stirrup Plate $156* Slotted Plate $85* Blanket Set (Inside & Outside Feet w/ Feed Dog) $150* Heavy Duty Roller Edge Guide $95* Pair of Thread Nippers $2* LDA-1 Magnetic LED Light $20* Owner and parts manual
  12. Hello everyone. Let me start by saying that I am with no question a GREEN HORN. just about finished with a umarex glock 19 holster. It is my first holster and my first wet molding project. there are ton of flaws and things that i will change moving forward but all in all it seems to function great. snug fit, locks into place and the 7 oz is rock hard. I have some questions about the edges. i originally beveled the edges but then after stitching i ended up sanding them in order to even everything out. (the pics are prior to sanding) Now the edges are a little square. I would like to use a red edge paint. is my next step to apply paint then sand and reapply more paint? In between do I use canvas? After the coats are applied, do i still seal the edge paint with beeswax and burnish? There are so many options so i am trying to get a formula broken down to layman’s terms. side question!- would obenaufs soften the leather too much as an exterior finish? Thank you for the assistance.
  13. Been doing leather work on and off, for eight years, at the rate of about 2.5 (finished) projects per year, though I haven’t made anything for the last two years, so I am still a novice. I have only made holsters, a few belts, and one multi-tool sheath. All of the holster were simple, black, concealment holsters. I make them simple because that is the extent of my skills. I make concealment holsters because CCW is very popular here in Las Vegas and because no one would want to show off my work. Got tired of making only black things and got this idea to make a Blue Jeans holster. I had this vision of a dark blue holster with a tan patch on it somewhere, with yellow or orange thread to mimic the stitching on Western style jeans and some copper rivets for the same reason. I have made two iterations of it (that is, not quite what I was imagining… still trying to do it right), now planning to make a third. First one was a solid Navy Blue Avenger (my first ever Avenger) with a natural tan mouth reinforcement. Truth be told, I had not planned a reinforcement but the leather that I had on hand was too thin, so the holster was flimsy. I added the reinforcement after the fact. I had used tan for the belt loop, then added the reinforcement. That is why it is not one piece of tan but two. A beginner mistake is to use whatever supplies one has on hand, when one knows full-well that it is not what is called for in the project! Cheap people also make this mistake… and people who are in too big a hurry to complete a project. That’s what I did. Don’t do it! So, I wound up with an Avenger that was too thin, was sewn with black thread on the body and white thread on the reinforcement. I had forgotten to buff the excess blue dye before stitching the tan pieces, so the dye came off on the waxed linen thread and now it looks dirty. Or, I don’t know, maybe one should not use waxed linen in this case? On the second iteration, I embossed the leather in my shop press, using canvas, to make the surface of the leather look like denim. Then I did an intentionally streaky dye job to make it look like worn denim. I had done some experiments using 600 grit sandpaper, hitting the high spots of the embossing, to remove some of the top color without going through to the leather color. It worked. Really looked like worn denim. Loved it but feared ruining this holster, which I was already happy with so I did not follow through with sanding. Promised myself that I will do it on the third one. Well, I started stitching with yellow thread (dyed linen) but it made my poor stitching stand out so badly that I took it out and used Navy instead. No one should experiment on their project but I did. I filled my maker’s mark with Silver Cova Color, which I had never used on anything. When I wiped it off, silver particles spread around the mark and all over the belt loop, which was dark Navy. It may not show up in the picture. It doesn’t look bad but it is not what I had aimed for. Kind of looks like a star filled night sky. At least, that’s the way I like to think of it. Others might say it looks like a mess. Oh, and I had planned to use a couple of copper rivets, as decoration, on the un-stitched side of the belt slot, to further add to the jeans illusion. Maybe next time. Though I could still do it. So, the next one will be a belt slide style with canvas embossing, some kind of distressed finish and yellow thread (after I practice my stitching for a while). By the way, the first holster (tan reinforcement) is a 15° cant, the second one (streaky blue) is a straight-drop, zero cant design. That was the first zero cant model that I have made. It rides very well at my preferred 3:00 position. I am surprised at how good it is. It’s my new EDC… until I make my belt slide with copper rivets! Streaky Blue Jeans Avenger Info Leather: 3.25 mm Thread: 0.8 Ritza 25 Navy Stitching: 6 spi saddle stitch (sloppy)(not intentionally) Dye: Fiebings Navy Blue Applicator: semi-dry dauber Edges & Flesh: Tokonole Top Coat: Fiebings Satin Sheen (may go for a matte finish next time) Gun: Sig M11 (P229 variant)
  14. So I am getting over being sick as a dog. Another sinus and asthma issues.... I got to play around with the thin air press my wife found and got me from Roar Rocket for molding holsters. This thing is awesome! Love it makes molding so much easier. It's normal use is for veneering and making skateboards. Anyway... so with my blueguns I have been using a pencil taped to the top with clear gorilla tape as a site channel. Is this a best practice or is there something better I should be using? Some of my holsters will have safety straps but others will not so I want a nice snug fit hence the reason we spent $60 on the thin air press from Roar Rocket. Just want to make sure I am doing things smart and not an outdated way if you know what I mean.
  15. My very first holster and my very first commissioned piece. I think it turned out good. The customer loved it. I have to pay thanks to JLS holster patterns and instructions, the many hours of youtube videos, and the Tandy Leather holster/knife class to help inspire this work. Tell me what you think.

  18. Weather has been lousy so I just watch TV and play with stuff. Made this cross draw holster for my Springfield 1911. Liked the looks so much I made a set of grips to match. Holster is 4oz veg tanned and the grips are from some scraps of 1/4" Veg tanned. Don't know what kind of snake, I bought the skin online last year. Comments are always welcome.
  19. Here´s a little thing i made during the weekend, a civil war-type holster for my gf´s little swedish percussionpistol. She wanted it to look this way so its a bit hardened with beeswax.. Im pretty happy how it turned out
