So my 16 yr old son is becoming quite the bladesmith, and he made a knife for my cousin in honor of earning his Eagle Scout Award. So I made a sheath to go along with the knife. I did this start to finish in under 6 hours - a bit of a rush... but I surprised myself on what I was able to do... even though there are a lot of mistakes... Let me know your thoughts... Cheers, Rich

Just wanted to show off my knife sheath that I made for the knife I made. For a little back story on the knife. It started life as a ferriers file I layed out the design I wanted and cut it out. cleaned it up and ground down the file aspect of it. Worked the cutting edge down with a file not all the way to were it was sharp but sharp enough that after the heat treatment process was done it didnt take a lot of effort to get a sharp edge. After it was heat treated found a nice piece of wood and made the handle for it. and found a Brass rod cut three piece to put in the handle as well. worked the handle down to where i wanted it to be. then put a sharp cutting edge on it. Since I finished the knife I needed a sheath to carry it in. So grabbed some leather and got to work on that. Nothing to special about the sheath. The tooling is off a bit casue I did some last min. changes. I was going to stitch it but then decided to do a triple loop lace on it instead so some things are off. But it is for me so I was not going to start over. sorry for the long story. Thanks for looking. Hope you like it

Greetings, Been making knife sheaths for a while, but this was my first time to apply the dye using an airbrush. Heard a lot of folks talking about it being one of the best ways to get an even color and having seen the end result I agree. Sheath is for a 5" blade with 1" width near the hilt. Right hand cross draw with snap closure on flap. Brown trim with airbrushed Mahogany stain.

I have said before that I make and sell only simple items and sell them for very economic prices. I have no sewing machine and saddle stitch only. I have made myself a little retirement business doing this and it is very therapeutic for me. Here is a simple fixed blade knife sheath that has become very popular. The rivets squeeze the leather so tightly that the knife edge never reaches them. I have carried a razor sharp knife in a pouch like this for a long time without cutting through or losing the knife edge. At the present I only make one size of it. The knife in it is a Pal #25. I do know how to make fancy items, but I enjoy making the simple ones myself. -- Tex

I made this sheath for my brother's brush knife. The sheath that came with the knife wasn't bad, but he wanted something more functional. A pouch on the face sheath for the sharpener and other stuff, a loop for a leg tie and a loop for a fire rod. Things that were not on the original sheath. It took me a while because things had to be stitched in a given order so I didn't make things difficult and or impossible to stitch properly. I tried something new with this. Instead of burnishing the edge with a slicker, I tried a wool wheel with some beeswax. Worked okay on some edges, but not others and I'm not sure why. Now I need to get this thing out of my house before I start to notice mistakes and general sloppiness. Otherwise I'll keep trying to clean stuff up and never get it finished. here's some pics of it. http://s1298.photobu...155004.jpg.html http://s1298.photobu...519004.jpg.html http://s1298.photobu...f097b7.jpg.html http://s1298.photobu...0ee718.jpg.html http://s1298.photobu...700858.jpg.html

I recently got into leather work and I got a knife with a sheath as a gift but the sheath is very weak so when you pull the knife out of the sheath it bend and makes it hard to take out. I like the design so i was going to make something similar but add my own flavor to it, but at the same time i dont want to make the same mistake. Is there a way to strengthen or reinforce the part right above the main sheath? Ive attached a picture to give an idea. BTW This site is awesome and i am learning a ton from the forums already. If there is a post that already covers this that would be fine too. Thanks, Adam

I've been doing a lot of knife sheaths lately and have been wondering about the effects of using dye inside the sheath on the knifes. I currently don't don't dye the inside of my sheaths. The more I make the more I'm wanting to dye the inside. I'm afraid that the dye may have some effect on the blades or the knifes that are carried in them. I'm using Eco-Flo and Fiebing's depending the the color. What are you opions and what have you seen?

This is my first leather project ever! I saw a sheath online and liked it because it made for easy one handed opening of my lock back knife, I decided to give it a go and used an old Weight Belt I had laying around the house. It works very well. I'm going to get some nicer leather and make another one soon plus many more projects the leather bug has bitten me. I'm sure I made some mistakes but that's why I'm here is to learn and get better. Please feel free to comment Thanks
