Quick (and most likely rhetorical) question... When doing a straight line stitch, I get that I want to go back over my starting stitch to lock it in and then again at end. When doing the complete circumference of a piece (like going around a wallet) 360 degrees, do I need to do the same or does overlapping the starting stitch with the end by 2-3 stitches suffice. Thanks // Brian

I recently bought this saddle from an online auction and I am wondering if anyone can provide insight into the kind of saddle it is or history. The leather is in really great shape but I can’t find any markings with a brand or signature of who might’ve made it. Everything seems to be in really great shape except for the velvet covering the seat. With the little research I’ve done, I have a feeling this is a riding saddle for shows. I was wanting to resell it but didn’t know where to price it at. Any help would be greatly appreciate it.

Good day everybody , I received this sample from local tannery in Egypt ( where I live ) and they claim that's a veg tan leather but I don't really but it as there's a center line with dark grey centered in leather layers .. I tried the boiling water test it didn't curl up but it shrank about 20% of original length .. i don't know why it didn't curl on itself because it's not real veg tan or it's thick layer about 4mm The weird issue that rose is it got burnished very beautiful with glass-like edge with just wooden slicker and water so it got me mad because I can't decide what is that ?! THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP

My wife has a very nice Husqvarna sewing machine. It is in the attic and I have recently become handicapped and the attic is another one of those challenging places for me. Does anyone know if the better sewing machines by this manufacturer would have capabilities to work with light leather? I assume I would need special leather needles at the most minimal of standards and, of course, it may not even be possible. If I wanted to proceed by hand, what would be a good starter basic list of items to experiment? Any tips would be most appreciated. Regards, R. Craig

I recently purchased a leather shop and there are many items of which I either do not need or want this is one of them. New this machine sells for $2835 and the additional blades are $345. The machine is in like new condition and will come with an extra set of blades. I’d like $2500 for everything, OBO.

I’ve been painting a few slobber straps but am unsure of how to finish them? Also, what is the difference between the leather acrylic paints and just normal craft paint? Any help would be appreciated!

So the title may be a little misleading.. This is actually my 5th wallet but this is the first time I’ve ever posted my work on the site. I got into the craft about 1 year ago and found this site shortly after and have been trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I absolutely love working with leather and I try to make things as often as possible. Which isn’t as often as I’d like seeing as how I’ve made roughly 5 wallets and 3 card Holders and a couple key chains since I started As for my wallet it is made out of 2oz lollipop red horween chromexcel that I scored when Rocky Mountain had there sale a while back. It’s stitched with carriage natural hemp thread from Tandy and edge painted with vernis burgundy color.. I used French style pricking irons from wuta 3.38mm or 8 spi. I’m really looking for some critiques to see where I can improve. I mean I can see the flaws but I’m curious how it looks to other makers ( my wife just says “ohh that’s pretty or nice” ) Sooo not much help in that department. Anyways I’m really excited to hear what you all have to say. Thanks for looking! Castle -

Hello, I have recently picked up a 29k71 (electric but using the hand crank) and I got it sewing cloth, finally. Although when im sewing anything over 1-2 oz veg tanned leather it does not move the leather with the foot. With a little push of the material it feeds kinda alright but if I stop applying pressure its back to not pushing enough and thats not the way its suppose to be so I would like to know whats wrong and get it fixed. I understand that these machines are old (I think mines from '64) and parts wear. Any help would be much appreciated. take care all! happy sewing!

Leader of my own company creating hand made leather helmet fronts for fire helmets. Out of Pennsylvania I receive calls all over the USA from firefighters wanting my product. I love doing this passion and there is nothing else in this world I'd rather do. Some shields are more challenging then others making it the perfect blend of different challenges. Thank you for membership, for I'm sure I may have unsuccessful challenges I might need help with in the future.

I see many requests for manuals for Singer Industrial Machines. Some have gone unanswered, and some are subject to long and tedious discussion with either no satisfactory answer, or an answer hidden deeply away. Of course, there are also plenty which have been answered quickly and succinctly. By doing some research and seeking out some of those hidden answers and others less hidden, I think I have found all of those that have been asked for, as well as many others. I am not an expert, and don't claim that this is an extensive list, but it is a pretty good start for those trying to find the manuals, parts lists and service manuals. The list I have attached starts with a few of the sources which are very helpful. All of the manuals listed are free, and I suspect the list owners would appreciate it if you can send them any manuals that they are missing. So before you pay for a manual, check these lists first. I hope this is a quick answer for many of your questions about manuals. I would really appreciate any additions to this list - please add links in your responses. Singer Industrial Manuals –.pdf

Hi and happy new year! I came across this leather shown in the picture. Any idea about what leather is it or the technique to achieve this two-tone look (tan + yellow)? Is it a tan leather painted with yellow (acrylic?) dye or some yellow leather dyed brown? Or some pull-up leather? Or a natural veg. tanned leather dyed with tan and yellow dyes at different areas? Any help with this mystery leather would be very appreciated!

Hello all, I have a customer that dropped a belt off for me to extend 6-8". The question is, he doesn't want it to bulky. Is it best to do a straight cut and skive the ends of the belt and extension pieces to glue together? The belt is pretty plain and has no stitching or tooling. Also, is there a good method to try and match the dye? The belt is old and has some scuffs and scrapes on it. (He doesn't mind that it'll have a new piece inserted, I just want it to match dye) Thank you, Aspen. Whispering Sage Leather

I purchased all of this four years ago, but ended up pursuing a different career. 99% of all of this product is unused and as new. It has barely been touched at all. You get everything in the attached pictures and listed below. The manuals that come with the kit give excellent detailed instruction on every repair or colouring challenge you may face, and you can also call the makers, Furniture Clinic, for assistance or advice. The kit allows you to mix any colour needed. You can check out furnitureclinic.com to see what all of these products do. I am offering much more here than is in the kit they have on the website and it is all-together worth at least $1800 Canadian new. I am offering it all for $950. I also have an Iwata Power Jet Lite Air Brush Compressor that I would be willing to part with for an additional $400, but you would need to buy your own airbrush. Using an airbrush is the most efficient and even method of applying dyes and finishes, rather than just using a sponge.
