Although I can see the need for improvement in my stitching, I am really happy with this. I used the Arthur Porter you tube videos as my starting point. I have had the leather for more than a year, waiting for this project I think. There are a few more pics on my blog. Thanks for looking.

I've been quietly watching and learning from everyone here for over a year and I've finally made something I like enough to share - so thanks to all of you for your ideas and suggestions that you share every day. This is a gift for a friend who is retiring from the military in a month or so. The patches on the front are for units he served in and the ones on the back are places he's been. 12"x16"x4 built from 6/7oz Triple C leather and hand stitched. Please feel free to critique and make suggestions for either design or process improvements.

Good morning folks, I have had a lot of requests for more videos and quite a few questions on making a messenger bag. I thought i'd combine the two in a video. I'm sure that most of you will be able to follow, but if you do struggle, the plans are available. Enjoy

I am currently working on a briefcase/messenger bag and am currently struggling with the pattern design. This is my second bag and it is quite a bit larger and more complex then the first. I would like to base it on a design similar to the Saddleback Classic Briefcase XL, I might change the dimensions a bit to fit my needs. Here is a link: http://www.saddlebackleather.com/briefcase My biggest concern are the gussets or pleats or whatever they are called on the sides, and how they connect with the bottom. I have some leftover 4/5oz veg tanned leather but not enough for the whole bag, so I need to go to Tandy and get more. Should I get more veg tanned or is there a more suitable leather that would hold up better to the elements? Thank you for any advise you can give.

Here's Satchel No5. made for a friend with arthritic hands, I designed this one with a larger front pocket and adjustable magnetic fasteners. They look like traditional buckles, and it works to allow the strap length to be changed, but the actual closure is magnetic. Its also the first bag i have been able to use my Maker Stamp on. Makes me feel like a proper leatherworker now i have the stamp! love to hear any comments, suggestions etc. adam

This is the first outing for my new Maker Stamp. really pleased with how professional and finished it makes the bag look to have a little branding! I'm also pleased with how the stitching is improving with each new bag.© ©Barking Rooster 2013

here the bag is shown open. For this one, I decided not to have a flap on the front pouch, but made it higher so the main flap would also work with it.© ©Barking Rooster 2013

the rounded detail behind the billet straps looks really nice, but was actually a solution found to hide a mistake i made punching holes in the wrong place!© ©Barking Rooster 2013

Completely handstitched, with the pieces cut from the hide freehand with a Round knife.© ©Barking Rooster 2013 www.barkingrooster.co.uk

I finished this a few weeks ago, but only just got time to upload the images! In fact, since this was completed i have almost finished a 5th version. This is a progression from my previous designs, with little improvements made in each one. I'm starting to feel like i know what i'm doing with these things! This is also the first bag i have used my new maker stamp, although the photos were takn before the stamp was used, so i will need to update the photos! love to hear your comments, suggestions etc adam

Im going to attempt and make my own messenger bag. I think I can do it. Im going for this style http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9252/products/vintage-messenger_1024x1024.jpg?279 Looks like they made the mag and then flipped in inside-out...am I right? I have tried making bags in the past and have gotten to the part where I need to flip it inside-out but the leather is too heavy to do so... Anybody have any idea what Oz. leather this could be? Thanks for the help
