  1. Hello All! EDIT: I see this is probably in the wrong part of the forum! Sorry about that! Probably belongs in the clothing area. Longtime lurker and sometimes poster, and enjoying all the knowledge floating around here! I have a long shot question, and hopefully anyone here at makes leather clothing might be able to shed some light. I several pair of side lace-up, leather motorcycle pants that I wear quite often when riding, and I'd like to make a pair in some nice brown cowhide I acquired. I made several leather garments before in the distant past, so it's not completely out of my wheelhouse, and i have a pair that fits me just about perfectly to take measurements from...but, I cannot seem to find any kind of pattern for these type of pants! Not rocket surgery I know, and I'm sure I could (eventually) draft a pattern off the existing pants and/or modify a jeans pattern and make it work...but I'd love to find a premade pattern IF one actually exists! Anyway, thank You in advance for any and all info! And Happy Holidays all!
  2. This was a piece commissioned to me because I said “I’ll do that for ya!” I started with block letters and made square letters cool
  3. Back around Fall of 2003, I took on my first leatherworking project, a fork bag for my cruiser. I thought it would be less expensive, and making a bag for myself seemed like something I would enjoy. That bag ended up costing me thousands, but I do enjoy trying to make leather stuff...That original bag should have been retired a while ago, but I just got around to it, finished up a new fork bag today. There's plenty I did wrong, and my skills haven't come as far as I'd like over the years, but I learned a lot on this one. I think I'll try again soon, but I have some gifts to finish first.
  4. I started my leather crafting journey a year back.Very impressed with the level of talent in this forum.Request your feedback on something that I have been working on.
  5. how do I stop a motorcycle toolbag from flattening when riding? Line it with plastic? I want it to retain its shape
  6. A friend of mine is asking if I could cover a side plate for his son's Ducati Scrambler. The original covers are aluminum and can be attached/detached by a tab and grommets, and secured by an allen screw in the middle. The design is convex, thankfully, but I'm wondering what's the best way to attack this. I'm a holster guy, so I need some guidance on type of leather and how to bond or secure it to the plates. He's also wanting it in a russet brown finish, but I'm guessing I'll use something already tanned to that finish. The photo isn't the actual plate, but it's the same size/shape - in aluminum. Thanks in advance. (Always fun to get out of the comfort zone!)
  7. Fully Loaded Tool bag. (also has a hidden pocket for emergency gas money.)
  8. This is the first motorcycle tank cover I have made. I had never made a circle pocket or sewn in a zipper before so I learned a lot with this project. Its all hand sewn with Ritza nylon bonded thread. The guy I made it for wanted it to be held on by magnets so I had to use a very thin material on the bottom so the magnets would hold. I used a black faux leather material, its synthetic so I thought that would be good to use so it wouldn't rot in the elements. We live in the rain forest so we get a lot of rain here. I didn't fully trust just magnets to hold it on so I made part of it slip under the speedometer and the bottom is bolted on with the seat. It was for his son who is in the Army so I tooled the Army emblem on some veg tan and sewed that onto the pocket. I drew the emblem out by hand and I didn't use any stamps for the letters.
  9. Hey everyone it's been awhile but I wanted to show off my latest work. They are tattooed leather patches.. yes actually tattooed with a tattoo machine. Let me know what you think Sugar skull
  10. Just finished this stunning set of bags for Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider motorcycle. This is one of the most heart touching projects. Our dear customer Victoria asked to make a swingarm bag and a forkbag with Luckenbooth in memory of her mother. Her late mom was Scottish and left her some funds to spend on her bike. It touched our soles and we've added complementary initials of her and her mom on sides. Same as all our projects it is fully handmade by one and only craftsman Alex. More projects on our website www.tauruscustoms.com
  11. My buddy and I had an idea to make an over-sized swing arm bag (big enough to hold his leather jacket and a few other things). We came up with an idea and then I headed off to the garage to make one. I started with a rough template I made. Late into the project I noticed a piece of the leather damaged that ended up on the flap Because of the way the bag expands I need to figure out a better way to secure it to the bike. I tested it the other day and the fit is nice, but the flap still needs some polishing. I would love to hear your thoughts on addressing this issue.
  12. Over the weekend I picked up a piece of leather and started monkeying around. No plans, no templates suddenly I decided to make a tool bag for my bike... I mean how hard can they be? ... HA! Actually it was really fun to figure things out "on the fly" and come up with solutions to problems that came up along the way. My first mistake was using 6-7 oz leather, i should have stated with 9-10 oz. To fix that I rode down to our local Tap Plastics shop and got a piece of acrylic for 5 bucks, then build a box for the inside. 2nd mistake the flap was too short so I added a middle piece of leather and another row of stitching to make it look... well planned. I had to get creative with where to place and insert the rivets, but all in all what a fun little weekend project.
  13. I hope you guys aren't growing tired of my posts. I'm just excited to be able to talk leather stuff with people who are in to that kind of thing! I got a custom request from this gentleman for a "Dr. Doom/Iron Man combo" mask, and then got to work on this thing. Lucky for me he has a MASSIVE Instagram fan base, so I've been getting rid of a fair amount of these things with his promoting.
  14. First of I'm new to the forums, my name is Jordan and I just started getting into leather craft like a month or two ago. I originally wanted to make motorcycle seats but the more I've been messing around I've been wanting to make different things! that being said, I just bought a super clean singer 29-4. I ordered some #69 bonded nylon and it finally came in today. I've been trying to mess around and get the machine to sew in some 2-4oz vegtan single layer but the thread will go in the first hole then just lay across the rest of the holes. I read somewhere that if it does that the tension is too loose, but the shuttle is as tight as it will go and if I tighten the disks anymore the thread stops. But when I try to sew denim it sews almost perfect. Am I missing something??? I'd appreciate any help or info! Thank you! Quote
  15. Visited the Vintage Motorcycle Exhibit at Calgary's Heritage Park. Exhibit closes Apr 24, 2016 so if you live close and want to see it, there is not much time left. I thought you might like to see the work someone has done in restoring this bike and adding saddle bags and saddle. (This is definitely not my work, just my photos. Credit goes to the owner.) Many of the bikes in this show belong to Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group, Rocky Mountain Section. Tom It's as old as I am. It's in a lot better condition than I am!
  16. Looking to pay someone in mid michigan to cover, mold, dye, and stitch a motorcycle seat I have made. Email me if you're interested. chevyholiday@gmail.com Thank you
  17. Hey guys, I've been reading up on the forums for a while now and finally joined to ask a few questions that I could not find the answers to. I am looking to build a medium to dark brown pleated tuck and roll leather motorcycle seat. (See examples attached) My questions pertain to the type and thickness of leather and the sewing machine needed to make this seat. I have been researching leather types and am a little overwhelmed with all of the options. I really like the inconsistency of brown oil tanned leather. I am not sure if this will be ideal for a motorcycle however. Will the oil rub off on my pants? Will it hold up under use? I looked at all the upholstery grade leather and it seems too shiny and consistent in texture and appearance. Should I use chrome tanned, oil tanned, aniline died, wax, urethane top coat? It seems to me like 3-4 oz will be the max thickness that I can use and still be able to pleat. Second subject is the type of machine. I understand that I will be needing a walking foot compound feed machine with #138? thread? Does this sound correct? I know that this is a very broad question that has many answers based on opinions, but where should I start in terms of manufacture and model for a machine that can accomplish the seats below? Thanks in advance for the help! Evan
  18. Two new bags recently completed by TaurusSeats. They are most suitable for H-D Softail models. All 100% handsitiched. One features the Black Widow spider. Second we call "Yorick", as it features the white skull. We've posted them for sale and, as usual, we see coments about the price... I am sure this sounds familiar to many forum members
  19. I am working on making a full-face mask for use in bad weather on a motorcycle. I am having a problem figuring out how to add. Eye protection without ruining the masks aesthetic. The mask is skin tight and held on by a gas mask style strap system and has rectangular holes for the eyes and mouth. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  23. Hello fellow bikers and leather lovers. I love this site and I’ve learned so much from you guys. I’d like to share this pattern for a sissy bar bag in 2 sizes – small bobber size (carry your lunch) and large for the big baggers (carry the whole picnic). Small measures about 12” X 9” X 7”, Large 15” X 10” X 9”. The loop on the top is fastened with velco inside. Shoulder strap is about 46” long. I have not constructed mine yet but I have cut it out and dry fit the pieces from heavy buffalo. I just haven’t got up the courage to stitch it together yet as I’m not used to working with leather this heavy, and I have some weakness in my hands; so it may take a while. Here are drawings of the bag and print layout to help reassemble the pages. PDFs are tiled, so print at full size To assemble the bag, I suggest attaching the flap to back, sides, then front. Attach bottom last. If you choose to try it, please share your results. I always enjoy seeing all your talent and creativity. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B0gKlPSNuZkrfnRPcUNpRDFqa2prUVF1eGJfN0FrcVRkWTdQUHo0NS1WbUg0dWRmUC1LWjA&usp=sharing
