  1. Hello, I was wondering if anyone might be interested in purchasing a Tippmann Aerostitch. The machine is very lightly used (maybe 5-10 hours on it), and seems to work fine (as far as I can tell with my limited knowledge), I just don't have time to learn how to use it and get all the tension settings correct (I also prefer saddle stitch to lock stitch). I have several different types of needles, a large bobbin of thread, two bottom thread bobbins, and the instruction manual. I can also take more pictures, if anyone's interested. Anyone want to make me an offer? Thanks, Chris Davis Davis Leatherworks
  2. Hi everyone!! So excited I found this group. I'm new to sewing leather and have found great information on this website. I have located 2 sewing machines locally and I'm torn on which one I should purchase. The Consew 255b or the Singer 111. The consew is about 82 miles away from where I am but I can drive there if it's worth it and the singer is about 10 miles away from where I live. They are both asking $800 for them. Not sure if that is a fair market value. Your advice is greatly appreciated!
  3. I am looking to buy a used sewing machine. I would like to get one that can handle sewing 3/4 or 7/8" of leather. Please let me know if you have one for sale or if you know of one. I appreciate any help or leads that you can give me. Thank you in advance.
  4. After several days of carefully browsing through the countless topics I decided to abuse the good will of the senior members in order to get specific answers/advice to my case. I will be short so I won't waste your time. Looking to move from hand-stitching to machine sewing while keeping the same "look" for new larger items impossible to handstitch. So looking to make women wallets, bags, totes etc. This would be done with heavy jeans cotton, waxed canvas, 1-2mm leather and thick thread. I chose these based on availability in my country: - JACK JK 62682LG - enlarged hook heavy duty cylinder bed, 6mm max stitch, DPx17 #18-24 needle sizes - JACK 550W servo motor with NPS (needle positioning system) - stitching slow and accurate is important to me - will be sewing with 20/3 and 10/3 synthetic thread. I don't know how it translates into the 207/277 sizes - no slanted stitches - I need a straight large stitch, large holes I was thinking of ordering size #18/20 needles for lighter leather/fabrics and #24 for heavier 3-5mm leather. So i ordered some 135-16 system needles with D/TRI point. Please let me know your recommendations if you think I should order different parts or needles. Thank you!
  5. I am wanting some reviews or advice on this machine someone is selling one with a clutch motor in my area and was curious what everyone has to say about this and if it would work for leather. Also if anyone knows what the limitations of this machine would be. and this going price. thanks for any help.
  6. I found this yesterday on Craigslist located in Wisconsin. Ferdco Juki TSC 441 for sale in Stone Lake, WI. Looks in pretty good shape.
  7. Looking to sell my Tippmann Boss leather stitcher. The machine works perfectly. I used it in a pro holster making business for about 2 years before my arthritic hands made leather work tough. It works perfectly fine. I have either 5 or 10 extra spools that will come with it as well as the LED light (you can see the light in the photo) as well as at least one, possibly 2 spools of thread perfect for making holsters and whatever needles I have laying around. I'm asking $1025 for all plus $25 shipping (continental US only). The machine works perfectly well. I just made myself a holster with it about 2 months ago.
  8. Singer Postbed sewing machine for sale. Machine works great and can sew fast as lightening. Don't want to sell the machine but I'm moving and don't have room for it. Located in the DFW area. Prefer local pickup. Willing to drive a little ways to meet buyer. $800 OBO. PM with questions
  9. Thanks to Constabulary for identifying the OMAC 69-73; which is an Adler clone. As I said elsewhere: I'm setting up a leather workshop in Austria and am looking for the equipment I will need to do so. One of my major purchases will be a sewing machine. And I've spent a LOT of time researching this. While I'd like to think I've learned a lot, the truth of the matter is that, at this point, I know just enough to be dangerous ... to myself and my wallet. Which is why I'm posting here and elsewhere. Better to seek the wisdom of others now than to wish I had later. Since shipping from the States and the UK would add FAR more than I want to spend to the costs of the equipment, I would appreciate any info I can get on good suppliers of industrial sewing machines, other leather workshop equipment, leather, hardware, etc. in continental Europe. (FYI, I will be posting in the suppliers forum as well as here.) I would also appreciate any info anyone has on the HJighlead GC2698-1 sewing machines. I I understood the info on their Irsih/UK website correctly, they're manufactured by Mistubishi http://www.highlead.co.uk/about-HIGHLEAD.htm And from the looks of the machine, it is another Adler 69-373 clone. Pics and specs can be seen here: http://www.sunnysewingmachine.com/index.php/view-all-machines/21-cylinder-arm-sewing-machines/647-highlead-gc2698-1-small-cylinder-arm-walking-foot-sewing-machine-syncronized-binder Assuming I'm correct, it would probably do what I need to do. HOWEVER, I am not going to buy anything that I have not either seen good reviews of written by the good folks on this forum or run past ya'll. Sooooooo ... does anyone know anything about these machines? In particular, what is it a clone of: Adler? Juki? Both? Are they well made, reliable, etc. Thanks! LJ Stevens Maverick Leathers
  10. Does anyone know anything about the OMAC 69-73 E.O.S. sewing machine? It is an Italian machine that I stumbled across it while researching equipment I will need to setup a leather workshop in Austria. The web link is : http://www.omacsrl.com/products/sewing-machines/with-arm/sewing-machine-with-reduced-diameter-arm-69-373-e-o-s/ The description reads: Sewing machine with reduced diameter arm 69-373 E.O.S. 11. Hi All, I am at the point where I need to make the step from hand stitching to a machine stitch to increase production speed, although I am having a hard time finding suppliers for the machines I am looking at. A lot of topics in this forum are making me lean towards a Cowboy 3200 however the nearest sales partner for Cowboy is in Germany (as far as my research go's!) There seem to be a lot of old industrial machines on ebay but it is hard finding a machine that is specifically designed for stitching leather and the cost of a Cowboy is a lot having never had a go on one before making the purchase, taking in to consideration shipping costs as well. Plus there are so many versions of each Singer or Juki for example on ebay that is hard to know which one would be best and suitable, there are also people selling machines on ebay stating the machine can work with leather but unfortunately not all of these statements are true. Does anyone know of any dealers based in the UK, selling specificly leather designed machines? It would be great to find someone that deals with Singer, Cowboy, Techsew, Cobra and Juki, plus any others that could be recommended. Many thanks, Ross
  12. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10205369374412376&set=vb.1189374515&type=3&theater Video of the machine running with a barely held on home machine motor...shown sewing med fabric and Lighter garment/upolstery leather I am asking 350.00 for the head. You will need to choose your motor based on what you plan to sew! If it is shipped we will have to figure out how to get it to you will let you figure it out and choose your shipper! Buyer will pay shipping. If you are fairly close by I can meet up with you! I am in Texas Navasota area. College Station and Brenham are close! We cleaned her fully she has been lubed and is running smoothly. This is not a walking foot model machine. She sews light leather and heavy fabrics. If you are serious make me an offer! The winder is actually rare. It needs a rubber doughnut and it will wind bobbins. You will need a table and motor just want you to be aware of this fact! I am thinning down my machines I do not have room for all my collection!
  13. I have an opportunity to purchase a Singer 16-88 and am wondering if this is a good machine for leather. I also need to know if I can get parts since it is over 100 years old. It says it has a 1/3 hp motor. Does that sound right to you? Thanks, Sue

  15. Hello, To all aspiring saddle and tack makers - This is a quick review of the machine I just bought which is a Cobras Class 4- I am writing this strictly to help you make a major decision - I know it took me hours and days of sifting though information and reviews online as well as calling the various 441 clone makers to decide on a machine - I hope this simplifies the process for you. I personally found that the decision was a hard one to make - It's a big investment, and there are many conflicting opinions online which confuse a rookie like myself. My goal was to buy a machine which would be: A) easy to use for a newbie, Sew as heavy as skirts to fleece for saddles, C) Sew as light as making a pair of armitas, D) be fairly fool proof. My decision to purchase the Class 4 was based on: 01 - A saddle maker who owns this machine highly recommended it and Steve as well - He told me it was the easiest machine to use he's ever encountered. 02 - I believe that this machine will hold it's value relatively well. 03 - It is fairly versatile 04 - Controlability of sewing speed 05 - Steve and Cobra are well regarded Prior to receiving this machine I had used a home owners grade machine maybe once so I am a complete rookie in the sewing world. However, the Cobra set-up very easily. I might have spent an hour or so setting it up. I then probably spent three+ hours sewing scrap material - It definitely takes some getting used to if you aren't familiar with running a sewing machine. I would highly recommend to any new sewing machine owner to spend as much time as you need to feel completely comfortable sewing and making tension adjustments before starting into an actual project. If not, I can guarantee you will wreck a piece or two. Anyhow, it probably took me about 4 hours to get the hang of this machine - I have now completed a couple of items - A simple spade bit hanger (pic attached), a pulling style breast collar and some rear billets for my saddle. The machine is very easy to use. Once you get the hang of it really works well - The speed control is amazing. I can literally sew as slow as I want to (Very slow at times for this rookie) and I find the tension adjustments between leather thicknesses and thread sizes fairly easy and intuitive. The bottom line is I am very happy with my purchase, The machine works well - I have sewn two layers of light chap leather together with ease and as heavy as 3/4" skirting with ease as well. I will post some pictures of projects I complete over the next while. My hope is that this will help the rest of you aspiring sewing machine owners out there make a simple informed decision. Regards, Ron L
  16. Just called and waiting for Steve to call back……. I know it comes with some tread but I am thinking I should add a few spools while I'm at it to save on shipping. I am doing mostly 3" wide guitar straps and have been hand sewing. I like the look of bulky tread as a feature, I think I want some 346 tread. I am thinking of using 277 for belts as they are narrower. I have been using 25 yard spools of waxed linen and braided cord from tandy so this is my size reference, would the 346 weight be similar? 18. Hi, I am looking for some advice from all of you who have sewing machines. I already have and old Singer that is working but I am looking to upgrade and get a machine that can handle the heavy leathers that I wish to sew. My business I sell mostly costume related items for Steampunk, Cosplay and Reanissance. I need to be able sew items like pouches, holsters, pauldrons and looking into my crystal ball maybe hats. I have $2K to spend on a new machine on a new machine. Used machine is questionable not knowing how well the machine was maintained by the previous owner. I did manage to see and play with a Cowboy 3200 and Chandler CM406RB-1 before I make a decision I would like to see what experienced folks have to say. What do you recommend? What are the pros and cons of your machine. A big THANK-YOU to all who read and respond! Isabelle
  19. Hello all, I haven't posted in a while, but I've definitely been on the forums researching. I've been reading a LOT of forum threads about sewing machines and understand what is necessary as far as walking foot, servo motor, etc. Unfortunately, the cash outlay necessary is out my league, at least for now. I have been hand stitching all of my work and now have a client who would like some tote bags and I thought it was time to finally get a sewing machine to help. I have a small home machine which I do a lot of thin deerskin bags for the same client and I knew it wasn't going to help. I scoured the Bay and craigslist and found a lady selling a Singer 31-47. I checked ISMACS, and it was in the 31 family and is for heavy fabrics and leather. I picked it up for $250. It has the original table and clutch motor. I've done a s much reading as I can find, but my question is, after much digression, what is the biggest thread size that I can run through this machine? The lady I bought it from said her husband did upholstery work and the thread that came with it is size EE, which is 69? I'd like to go to at least 92 or even 138 but cannot find any information regarding thread sizes for my machine. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

  21. Hi, I've been watching eBay for a few years and every now and then a 95k40 will pop up for sale. Usually it's just the head. And the sellers will say its in good working order. Is it worth taking a risk on, to buy this machine? These are old machines and I just wonder if there are any foreseeable issues. I know that no one can predict what might go wrong but I was wondering if it's wise to invest the time and money in one? The machines are usually not that expensive, its the shipping.... Thank you Susan
  22. I have a Neel’s Saddlery Model 5, leather/saddlery sewing machine. It comes with custom table, TCM Servo Motor, instructions, some bobbins and needles, a bag of leather scrap, etc. We moved this summer and it has not been reassembled onto its table since our move but it is in otherwise – ready to go , outstanding condition. Neel’s is super helpful. They helped me learn to thread the machine properly over the phone. Although there are instructions included with the machine, along with original purchase receipt and a users guide. It was over $1200 new a few years ago. http://www.neelsaddlery.com/ This machine has been well taken care. I have decided to change direction with my work, and it has been sitting, unused for over a year now. asking $750 – pickup or I can possibly meet up. I will be in NOVA and MD a few times over the coming weekends. LOCATION – Broadway, VA
  23. I recently purchased a Cobra King with eps and a class 18 with eps from Cobra Steve at the Leather Machine Company. I couldn't feel better about this transaction. His dedication to making me feel at ease during the ordering process was incredible. In my lifetime I have acted as a business consultant and when it comes to customer service, he is the epitome of what I was always trying to sell my clients to employ in their business. He didn't try to sell me two machines. Instead he was willing to work with me to help me make one work as long as I was willing to make the many adjustments needed for varying thicknesses of leather and material. He could have easily pressured me, but didn't. In the end, I know my level of patience and because of that I wanted the two different machines. I also felt inclined to make the purchases simultaneously as I am in Alaska and shipping savings could prove great. He also made it worth my while in other ways, but never was their the salesman pressure one would expect from big ticket items. I believe his final words to me were, "CyLee, I promise, I'll never let you down," once I placed the order. Now fast forward a bit. I received the shipment on time. He has no ability to control all the methods of transport that a couple machines endure to find their way to the Last Frontier, but what I can say is he chose a quick expediter, and he took care to package the machine very well. The plastic was wrapped and wrapped and wrapped again to help ensure the salt water spray from the barge would not come in contract with my beautiful new masterpieces. They arrived a couple days earlier than I expected. Another testament that he made good choices in how he shipped to me. Since then we have played phone tag as I have a few questions, but mind you, it's my fault. My hours are for the the birds as my G'ma says. After a series of surgical procedures I am running quite slow on medication and bedrest, but I look longingly across my room at those Cobra machines. I did manage to start them up and test a strip of leather on each. Barring a few questions and one not so serious correction needed, I must say that I am honored to have done business with the man who REALLY knows how to do business. It's a BIG risk to buy big ticket items site unseen in Alaska if for the shipping price alone. I have no regrets. There will be many more people using Cobras in Alaska as soon as I can get out there and show people all the magic the machine and the man behind the machine can do. Kudos to his staff, too. It's been all a pleasure and so far, he has kept his word and not let me down a bit. If you are on the table as to which machine to order... go with the man. The machines are similar enough that you need to look beyond that. If the Cobra experience is good enough for an Alaskan, it's good enough for anyone for there can be no greater number of obstacles than that of getting things here. Let this be my testament to customer service that is not available in most places anymore. It's the old days kind of classy. The only negative thing I can say with deep deep frustration is I dreamt of deadly cobra snakes for three nights after ordering the machine. The mind is a mean mean machine in itself... But I finally slaughtered those snakes in my head and went to the local Tandy and bought a couple snake skins. They say if you can't join them.... kill them. Or buy them already dead!
  24. I have a Typical Type: GC6505 industrial cylinder post sewing machine , 10 or so different leathers, some tools, hardware, and other miscellaneous items. Ask me for more details. $1850 or best offer
  25. I am debating between two machines for my first leather sewing machine. I'll be stitching through about 3/8" max so I don't need anything too heavy duty. I read through a ton of posts on this forum and it seems like people really know what they're talking about! With every industrial/compound walking foot machine I found on Craigslist, I was able to find a corresponding review on this forum. Turns out most of the machines in my area are junk, though I did find one that had generally favorable reviews from you guys. It's a 153W 103 Singer, and it's going for $800. Here's the link: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/for/4606315599.html And here's the poster's description: "For sale very clean industrial sewing machine. Works like new. Comes with extra feet and bobbins. Has a walking foot. Was made to sew heave material. Has large machine pulley to slow down and increase the power of this machine. Has offset table and has a extension table to work with. Machine is a 153W 103 Singer." I like that I won't have to pay for shipping and that it's a few hundred bucks cheaper than the Chandler - but then again I'm not sure how long it's been since it's been serviced, what kind of motor it has, or how well it'll handle or for how long. So my question is: is it worth getting this machine and saving a couple hundred bucks instead of getting a brand new Chandler 406RB-1, which seems to be the perfect fit for everything I'm looking for except the price? Your feedback is much appreciated.
