I purchased this machine brand new, had it delivered to my smoke free home and purchased different gadgets to make sewing easy. I have changed my focus in leather, therefore this machine is to powerful. A great machine for someone working with heavy leather. Hello, I’m having such an annoying problem with my “JACK JK-513A” servo engine. The engine is connected to my “JUKI DDL-8700”. So here’s the issue: The engine won’t go any faster than 02 in speed... Even though the speed is set to 20-30. Everything worked fine just the other day. Today when I started to sew, I received an "E5 error" — after I solved the error, it seems like the machine won't sew any faster than 02. Hey All, New to the forum, but not quite new to leather working. Wanted to pick the brains of experts around here and get some suggestions as to the best machine and attachment for our needs. We're looking to produce our current leather bag line in-house along with a few additional styles in the coming months, but don't have the correct machine to sew leather edge binding on our bags....or even the bags for that matter. I've been sewing our smaller items with a Brother LS2-B837 walking foot honed in exactly where I like it, but it does not suit the purpose of sewing duffel bags due to the flat bed design. I've prototyped a few duffels in the past on this machine, but it's definitely not ideal for production use! I really have 2 questions. One is about machine selection and the second is about sewing leather binding. Question 1. What machine recommendation do y'all have for sewing our style bags. We use #138 polyester thread on 5-5.5oz veg tan, edge skived, 2 layers minimum, more where pull tabs, handles, etc attach. We're not sewing through anything crazy like 1" of thickness, but we do have a few spots like handle sewing where its close to 20oz of leather. Picture of duffel bag attached for reference..... Question 2. When sewing a leather edge binding, do most manufacturers prefer to glue then sew or use a binding attachment to feed it through? Also, is the binding sewn on the same time as the seam, or is the bag sewn, then the binding attached after? We're low volume at the moment (15-20 bag runs) so not vitally important we're the most efficient at this time, but still need to be able to grow into our machine. Hey, hoping to get some opinions on Yamata cylinder arm sewing machines. They keep popping up in my search (on the market for a refurbished machine) I can't find any reliable reviews. What is the shank, max needle size, and is it over all a decent machine?? I work with veg tan 9oz max, bags mostly. Any opinion helps, thank you! -
I have a purse and handbag company next to me that has boxes and boxes of damaged goods, and they’ve offered the job to me to repair and replace a lot of straps. I assume there has to be a folder that does what the attached pictures do, can anyone tell me where to get it or if there’s a better way to do it? Thanks.

I'm having a strange situation with the thread tension on a juki LU1508N. To get the stitch to "look" like the tension is right (no threads peeking through the opposite side), i have to have the top thread extremely tight and the bobbin extremely loose. I have about 10 of these machines and this is the only one with this issue. Its also skipping stitches intermittently... not sure if that is a related problem or not. Does anyone have any ideas how/why this is happening and how to fix it? Thanks!

Can anyone give me any info on this old sewing machine? I know it's a Davis and the motor works. I don't have any numbers yet but I may be able to get them in a few days. A friend of mine is asking $400 for it or he'll throw it in if I buy his truck haha. He said it came out of an old saddle shop and can sew up to 3/8". He said it just needs to be timed. Would this be a good buy for a beginner? I mostly build holsters and other various goods, nothing too thick. Also how much would it cost to have it "tuned up", or is that something a mechanically inclined person could do on his own? If not how about a place to take it around the eastern Phoenix AZ area? Consew 227 with reverse, It has some age but it is in excellent condition. Just serviced by a professional and worn parts were replaced. Table, variable speed motor, speed reducer and new belt. Pick up in Western NC or I can meet in the vicinity of any of these zip codes: 28746,29670,30605 $1200 OBO Moving shop to SC and trying to reduce the load.

I have a Singer 31-15. Had it sewing beautifully with #92 thread. Switched to #69 & the bobbin thread is looping BADLY. I noticed that after a couple of stitches, the thread is jumping out of the tension discs. I've tried adjusting the tension on the discs, thread still jumps out. It seems as if it needs more tension before the discs to keep it between the discs. I appreciate any suggestions you experienced folk have, however, I'm not a sewing machine repair person, or by any standard an expert, so simple answers will be the most helpful. I'm not up on the technical terminology. Thanks!

I use a Cobra class 4 for sewing leather, but occasionally I need to sew a couple of layers of lambskin or deerskin. The Cobra doesn't like that thin a material. Can anyone suggest a sewing machine that is best for that thin a material? Should I be looking for a walking foot or not?

This is my first post, so hopefully I won't make an utter fool of myself! I've just purchased my first leather sewing machine (Cowboy 3200) after doing english bridlework and saddlery repairs for the past 2 years by hand and learning that I have fairly severe arthritis in my hands at the ripe old age of 32. Hah! I am aware that byusing the machine I won't have the lovely angled stitch, or the knot and stability of the saddle stitch, but I'd love to continue to use a thread with a traditional look to it. I have a background in textiles and fiber, so I'm really drawn to the outward look of natural-fiber threads (linen, cotton, hemp, etc) regardless of if they're core-spun around something more stable. Has anyone used Sajou polycotton "Spécial Maroquinerie" for their machine stitching? I fully expect it to be more finicky and less forgiving than a bonded nylon or polyester, but I'm a glutton for punishment. Are there other brands of natural-fiber core-spun threads on the market? If so, does anyone know how it stitches up, size-wise? The 28/3 is 0.45mm, while the 28/3 is 0.38mm, and I'm hoping to find something that stitches up similar to a #183 thread. Also, I'd assume the waxed threads such as this might gum up the machine over time despite being designed for machine use. Is there a way I can keep this from happening? I don't mind a little extra work cleaning it out now and then in exchange for the natural fiber thread. Orrrr... is this just a beginner's pipe dream, and should I just stick to bonded nylon or polyester? I purchased a Consew 118 and it won't stitch. It's obvious from cleaning and observation that the needle is very deep when the hook passes above the needle. I have the operator guide but not the service manual. It's obvious I need to adjust the needle bar height and timing but I cannot find any documentation. Plus, I can't even locate the screws to adjust the hook timing, it appears to be one factory assembled unit. Can anyone guide me to a service manual, or video, or share any information to help me adjust the needle bar and timing for a Consew 118? Thank you very much for your help. Mark in Colorado. PS: One picture shows how deep the needle is and the hook is at the very top where the uppper notch is. The other picture shows the back of the hook assembly where I thought I would find the timing screws, but there are none. thanks again.

After a couple of pretty severe needle strikes my usually very reliable sewing machine (Seiko LCW-8BL) has developed persistent problems. Mostly thread jams and needle thread breakages. I've done the usual re-threading, bobbin changing and needle replacement to no avail. However I've noticed that the tip of the hook looks like it's been chipped and I suspect that it's piercing and cutting the needle thread. These are the best photos I was able to get. It looks like the hook is a little shortened, and the inside edge is very sharp. The outer edge of the hook is smooth and polished. A replacement good quality hook is not cheap but it's a cost I'm just going to have to swallow if that's what's needed. What are my chances of grinding and polishing the damaged hook into function? Should I just pony up for a Hirose?
