I have a bit of a dilemma. I am fairly new to leatherwork. I am in my 60s and still work part-time as a government contractor. At this point, I am just a hobbyist but may want to try to sell some goods in the future. I am most interested in making knife sheets and holsters and some motorcycle accessories. I jump into everything with both feet. I've already spent several thousand dollars on a variety of tools and other necessities. I am from a law enforcement background so I have a lot of connections in that field and in the motorcycle field, so that is where my customer base would be. I have been hand stitching up to this point and I have to say the results are actually pretty good. I would like to speed things up a bit with the sewing machine. I have been longing for a Tipmann Boss. I have read every review that I can find but there doesn't seem to be a real consensus. I have also been looking at the Cowboy and Cobra electric machines. The Boss is expensive but affordable. The electric machines are crazy expensive for a hobbyist. The mistake I don't want to make is buying the Boss and being dissatisfied with it a year later and buying the electric machine. Has anyone used the Boss long-term? Have you wished that you had just taken a big bite out of the bullet and bought the electric machine?

I have a very lightly used Techsew 2700 for sale. The machine includes table and SmartServo motor with bobbins, needles and swing down roller guide. I purchased five years ago from Techsew and haven't even finished the first spool of thread it came with. Hope it can go to a good home. I live in Atlanta and am asking $1000 if you can pick up. I have a new (to me) Seiko SK-2B-1-20, long arm walking foot machine and have trouble-shot everything I can - set the hook timing, needle bar height, adjusted feed dog & presser foot. It's working okay. This is my first time using an industrial machine - I have used many small machines. I'm using this machine for sewing books - sewing through about 3/8" thick paper. I can do this work on my old Singer, but the stitch length isn't variable, and I needed longer stitches. I also wanted working space for wider books. My question is regarding thread tension and thread weight. I'm trying to use Chinois linen thread, #532 and it keeps breaking. It's very hard to pull the thread through the machine, there's just so much tension. If I set the tension any looser, I get loops on the back of my work. I have to use two hands to pull the thread through before starting or at the end of my piece. The mechanisms are all about the same as those on my old Singer, so I don't know why it would require so much more tension to work. I have adjusted the bobbin tension - it's as tight as can be, though the bobbin thread is much looser than the top thread. Is it possible to use this machine with lighter weight thread or does it have to be very thick thread? I'm worried I may have bought the wrong machine. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I recently inherited a Kenmore e6354 sewing machine that needs some TLC and parts (foot pedal). It was my grandmothers and I would love to use it if the cost (maintenance+parts) justifies the value of the machine. The first quote I received was just under ~$200 for parts and repair/tuning. I noticed Tandy is selling a Singer 4452 that can also be found on Amazon for $207.00. I'm trying to decide whether I should invest in the older machine or buy a new one. I plan to use a machine to sew leather bags and heavy canvas/denim bags. Would either of these work to sew through two pieces of ~6oz leather? Thank you all in advance for the help! Jack

A friend of mine asked me to replicate this Greek key pattern on his belt for a new hat band. I've been working with the pattern for a while now with little success. Problems are: 1) replicating stitch width to create pattern (left to right distance when looking at the photo) - all of the patterns I've tried are way too wide so it looks like random stitching versus a pattern, and 2) leather tearing out between stitching - when I do get the holes close enough to resemble the pattern then it tears out as one piece. Anyone done something like this? Any tips are greatly appreciated.

So my questions are: Is the 16-41 a walking foot machine? How thick can it sew? This one is treadle powered, can it be hooked up to an electric motor. I recently got a singer 211g151 and have been trying to sew leather holsters on it. I’m new to leather work. I been having trouble with the thread bunching up around the bobbin and/ or cutting the thread. Is there a way to get this machine to sew leather or am I wasting my time messing with it? I am using the braided wax thread and sewing 5-6 oz leather. Needle goes through the leather with ease it just doesn’t tighten on the bottom side resulting in the bunching up and cutting thee thread. Any help is appreciated

Hello, I am looking at buying my second sewing machine and need help, I have never used a machine before so I am looking for something that's user friendly has a servo motor and a speed reducer. I had bought a jack sewing machine over a year ago paid $1850.00 for it and never been able to use it, can't figure out how to thread properly I had it threaded once before and it sewed but the it had a bird's nest on the bottom of the leather never been able to fix that, now when sewing it does about 2 stitches and the top thread breaks so I don't know if it's still bird nest's on the bottom the machine has become such a head ache that it just sits there. There's no youtube video's on it I called and e-mailed the company I bought it from and no help was given from them at all so I e-mailed the manufacturer with no help at all from them either. I know I need a walking foot industrial and I have it figured out down to 2 machines the cobra class 4 and the cowboy 4500 price wise both machines are the same for the package I am looking at. I make a large variety of products mainly use veg tan, english bridle and suede for lining. I need to be able to sew from 2 oz to about 18 oz. I have chosen these 2 machines because they are cylinder base with flat table accessory when needed and have a throat length of 16 1/2 as I make anywhere from wallets, bags, holsters etc. I would like input on these machines and how well they do the job I need. What are the pros and cons and what are the experiences people have with the company they bought it from. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you in advance.

A friend and fellow toddler parent was complaining that her daughter is so tiny that her pants keep falling down, and I suggested that I could make her a little pair of suspenders. She wasn't too keen on that idea, but maybe a belt? she asked. But something that would be simple for her daughter to undo when they start potty training. The idea that we came up with (or agreed to look into further) was Velcro. So I'm picturing a 1/2" or 3/4" strip of leather with a little dot of hooks on one side and a strip of loops on the other. So, I've got the belt leather, and Velcro tape isn't that expensive. But I've never sewn Velcro onto anything. (And I want to sew it on, so that it's nice and secure.) Anything in particular I need to know?

Selling my JUKI LU-563 walking foot industrial sewing machine. I purchased it from a sewing machine servicing company who refurbished the machine in 2014. Machine is setup to sew leather. The machine works great. Comes with table and 3/4 hp digital servo motor. (Sewquiet 5000). Motor currently has a larger pulley to increase torque, but original pulley and belt is still available with it. Will come with a bunch of black and white M size pre-wound bobbins as well as magnetic LED light and leather point needles. Instruction manual and parts list and thread tree included. She may not be the prettiest, but she does the job! The table is not great, and bows down in the middle. I was given the table for free with the head, so passing that along. I will include the 1/2 hp clutch motor that came with it for free as well if wanted (just collecting dust on the shelf). Price is $900. Located in Sugar Hill, GA (45 min north of Atlanta). I recently moved my Artisan Toro 4000 to a small stand, as we moved into a much smaller house, and am selling the original heavy-duty pedestal stand it came on. Please see attached pictures, including one of the original setup with the head, motor, speed reducer, light, and thread stand in place. The second picture shows the bare stand as I’m selling it (machines etc. on the floor not included). The stand is height-adjustable, on casters, and made of very heavy steel. 2 pedals - one for the motor, the other for the foot lift. The top is drilled for the Artisan Toro 4000, which is a Juki 441 clone. $75 (which is a bargain). Pick-up only. I’m in the Jacksonville, FL area.

I recently purchased a mini 441 sewing machine and I have a size 25 needle I'm using. I am looking for a bigger thread, basically for appearance. I am using a 346 right now and the thread is not very noticeable. Does anyone know of a bigger size thread I could use?

Hello everyone, About a year and a half ago I got some great info from you all on a 1916 Singer 45k52 that I had picked up. That machine is working very well sewing heavy belts, holsters, knife sheaths, and small accessory bags. I love the 45k but no one makes accessories for 100 year old machines. So now I'm looking for something a little more modern and lighter weight for sewing lighter and softer leathers. I was thinking about a 206 RB but, while browsing online I found a Consew 339 RB-1. It's a 2 needle machine. Questions: 1. Can a 2 needle machine be used with just 1 needle at a time? 2. Can It sew lighter, softer leathers such as, 2oz upholstery or garment, without skipping stitches. 3. How much can it sew through/handle? For example, 2 layers of 2oz upholstery with nylon webbing sandwiched between them? How about 1 or 2 layers of 6oz veg? 4. Is there anything to watch out for with a 2 needle machine? Is it much different than a single needle? I appreciate all of the advice I got last time. It was a huge help. Hopefully someone has some good info for me on this one too.

I am thinking about getting a sewing machine to help speed up our work. For the most part we are sewing 10 oz. Leather to 8 oz. Leather. I like the way the thick wax thread looks just takes too long. Was looking at getting a cowboy 3200. Any suggestions or recommndations would be appreciated
