  1. Hey yal long time no post! Hoping some pros can help me with something. I'm looking for experiences, not just google articles, hence why I'm here! I have a 810 post bed machine. I had started a project (which is now complete), sewing some sneaker uppers, but toward the end I snapped a needle and found I had been sewing with a size 22. It's ok, but I really wanted to sew with a smaller needle to get a smaller more "high end" looking stitch. I went to put it in a new needle that was provided, but none of them worked. None of them would catch the bobbin thread, from size 16-21. Come to find out they sent me the wrong needle system, as I needed dpx5 and those werent it. So now I'm on ebay trying to find needles but all of these numbers and letters are confusing. There are lots of options. 2 part question: 1. If I buy needles, as long as it's the right system, can I use a smaller size?? For instance, it's seems my machine is set for a size 22, will a size 18 or 20 work?? For 69 thread. 2. If that answer is no, is it worth changing something internally so that I can sew with a smaller needle? I would have to be walked through this over the phone, as I am 4 hours away from the nearest professional. For more background, I don't plan to sew over 6 oz of leather. I sew Python and lamb skins, and would like to sew croc and stingray soon. But I also want to sew fabrics, like Pendleton and suedes, which look like requires ball points but leather requires diamond. (Any info on points appreciated too) Any advice?? Thank you!!!!
  2. I am selling my Cobra Class 4-P. I bought it just under a year ago. Other things have caught my attention and I hardly use it now. It has less then 48 hours of work put on this Great machine. I really don't want to get rid of it, but for the last two or three months I have not used it. Slow business and other hobbies are the reason I'm selling it. I am located in Daleville, Alabama. About 25 minutes west of Dothan. I would prefer the buyer to pick this machine up. I will drive up to an hour. As of right now, I'm not shipping it. I'm asking $2,600. $2,500 if you come pick it up. I have attached the Craigslist posting here> http://dothan.craigslist.org/for/5815551328.html
  3. Here is a link to my CL ad http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/tls/5658472155.html I'm more than happy to send more photos and answer any questions. I'll also offer a discount to this group only. $800. I prefer pickup here in Cincy. I will travel as far as 100 miles to meet someone. Columbus, Louisville, Indianapolis, Dayton, Lexington etc. Thanks, Andy
  4. VERY NICE machine ,works well . It loves 69 thread but will sew with a little heavier . I keep her cover on her all the time . She's not aloud to get dirty. From prices I see I think $700.00 with the motor drive option. . PICK UP ONLY IN MARLTON,N.J.
  5. I am selling my Tippmann Boss Sewing machine. It is an aluminum model. It comes with four spools of thread, Material guide attachment, six bobbins, assorted needles, and Tippmann tool box. I purchased this machine used a couple years ago and I just don't use it enough to keep it around. This is a great machine and it has always sewn well. It is a Tippmann so you will have to learn how to adjust the tension on it for the leather you are sewing. This forum has been a great resource for me with this machine and I really enjoyed sewing with it. I would be willing to ship this item (only in the USA) but would like to make the transaction in person if at all possible. I am located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Buyer would pay any shipping fees. If we can arrange to meet in person I will throw in the bench I made for it. If you want to discuss the machine you can call or text me at 605-390-2646 Or email me at barlaam AT live DOT com Price is $1000 Thanks Ben
  6. I am selling my King Cobra class 4-25 machine. Due to health reasons I am closing down my shop. I will have more to sell, but I need to go through everything first and that may take a while. This machine is practically brand new it has less than 10 hrs on it and looks and runs great. It comes with everything that came with it. 25" Arm Electronic needle position system Tripple feed mechanism 3-22 stitches per inch Takes thread sizes 69-415 heavy duty speed reducer led light will sew 6oz - 7/8" material comes with needles, thread, bobbins and all the attachments I have. asking $2,800 I can create the machine up and take it to the shipper, but the buyer is responsible for paying shipping or I can meet you within 200 miles of Kalispell Mt. Brand new from Leather Machine Co. The cost is $3,695 plus $300 for shipping. Please email metzler77@yahoo.com if you have any questions. Thank you
  7. Hi all, I am selling my Tippmann Boss on ebay. It's been only slightly used (only for about a dozen projects or so) and works very well. It's in excellent condition and comes with the accessories kit. I'm also throwing in a dual, led gooseneck light that you can see is attached with a zip tie. I paid over $1800 for everything ($1495 for Boss, $299 for accessories + taxes, s/h). Selling everything for $1600. Shipping is calculated on checkout. Only selling within the U.S. If you want to take a look you can follow this link: http://goo.gl/k2i7b8
  8. After much debate I have decided to try and sell my Ludwig 205-370 heavy duty cylinder arm leather stitcher. Due to time constraints from my job I am just not doing enough leather work anymore to justify keeping it and I could really use the room in my shop, so I will sadly let it go. This machine is an exact copy of the Adler 205-370 and operates just as smoothly as the actual Adler I tried at Weaver Leather. It is in fantastic condition and has no issues. If you're not familiar with this model, they will do everything one of the 441 / "Class 4" machines will do and run smoother while doing it. The machine includes a swing-away edge guide, an adjustable height table/stand, auto-bobbin winder, speed reducer, and a quality servo motor. I have a few different presser feet and feed dogs for it, several packages of needles, a few spools of bonded nylon thread, and several bobbins. I also have the Weaver timing device and digital copies of the Adler manuals. I am asking $1,500.00 for the machine and all the accessories I have for it. It would be a tremendous effort to break this thing down and crate it to ship because it's HEAVY and BIG, so I would really prefer local pickup. However, if someone is willing to pay for the effort required to ship it I am willing to do the work as a last resort. I am located near Huntington, WV. Feel free to ask any questions you have about it or if you'd like to see any other pictures. I am not in a bind or "needing" to sell it in any way, so I'm not going to accept any low-ball offers. If I can't get within reason of what it is worth for it, I'll just cover it up and keep it. If interested you can message me here, email me at evandailey@suddenlink dot net, or call or text at 304-six33-489two.
  9. Hey guys, long time no talk! Been ghost the past few months but I've made considerable progress in my sewing and shoemaking ventures. Photos to follow in another post! Anyway, I have a Consew 206rb. After having my machine for over 6 months, I up and decided to change out my needle, as I thought maybe it was dull and could help me avoid the occasional skipped stitch. Low and behold, I had been stitching everything with a size 22 organ needle! Now, I wasn't too upset about this, as all my work up until that point looked fairly decent. The issue comes in when I input a size 16 needle, which from my understanding is the correct needle for sewing leather, which is what I do pretty exclusively. Smaller needle = smaller hole, which gives a cleaner looking stitch. I thought I was winning, until the needle refused to actually "stitch". I'm using white 69 bonded nylon thread on some white cow leather about 3oz thick. The needle is feeding in the upper tension and the bobbin, but it's not locking the stitch, so when I stop sewing, there is just holes in my leather but no thread, on the top or bottom. Even more interesting, when I went to see on a different piece of scrap Horween leather about the same thickness, it worked fine! Any ideas on why this is? Does my needle really just not like this leather, or should I be making an adjustment somewhere? Stitching about 8 spi. Attached a photo of the leather I'm sewing with the size 22 needle just to give you an idea of what it looks like. Thanks

    Juki LU-563

A few months ago, I purchased a used Juki LU-563 from a reputable sewing machine seller in Atlanta, GA. The sewing machine, Consew analog servo motor, and table are all in great working order. There are plenty of online resources that helped me learn the machine and get started. After getting the hang of it (this is my first sewing machine experience ever), I'm not sure that it's the right fit for the products I'm currently making. Maybe another time. In the meantime, I need to recoup the expense and recover some floor space. I'm asking $1,000 for the head, table and servo motor. I'll update the post with some more pics next time I'm at the shop. Please let me know if you have any questions. I would prefer to sell the head/motor/table together, but that's negotiable. I would also prefer not to ship. I do frequently drive from Atlanta to Greensboro, so I could do a meetup/delivery within a reasonable radius of those two cities and that route. Thanks! Bill
  11. Newbie on the block! What an incredible platform for knowledge sharing- so glad I stumbled across it. So, grew up in a leather crafting household- my dad owned a tack company and made everything from chaps to breast collars and headstalls to belts, holsters, etc. He swears by Artisan machines- I was making purses (light to medium weight materials- lamb/pig skin to kangaroo and cowhides combined with fabric liners) a few years ago on a machine that was old (can't recall the brand) and worked alright given that it was free to use. Looking to get back into it and am currently looking at Artisan 335 B (would love a 335 BT because "portable" is very appealing - but not sure if that's just a better idea 'in theory'), and a Cobra Class 18. Both have walking foot cylinder beds, servo motors and compound needle feeds. I'm most likely never going to be sewing anything heavier than a tooled belt and I have a lighter machine for strictly textiles- so I like the range these machines seem to offer. Any advice on factors that give one product line an edge over the other- or just things to consider in general to be an educated consumer- is much appreciated!

    Sewing Machine

What is the best sewing machine for sewing hair-on cowhide?
  14. Landis Belt Press that I bought in Canada directly from Landis factory and I refurbished it cosmetically. This machine is 110V electric and will punch all belt holes and tip of belt with ease. The current die is the original and comes with the sale but this machine needs a new die made. Everything works great, but again, the die needs replacing which you can have made by Campbell-Randall for $350-$400. Motor is very strong, has fresh paint and oiled well. This is a very rare machine and I have never found one like it. Used in my belt shop but need to make room in shop for bigger equipment. Foot pedal and hand operation methods (they are interlinked so operate as you choose. Asking $3800. Must pick up or YOU arrange for it to be picked up. I can crate to for you for $200. 15. I just got my first sewing machine. Wow, do I have a lot to learn. It's like starting leatherwork all over again. I got a Cowboy 3200 from Bob Kovar at Toledo Sewing. The 3200 is a new machine that they don't even have up on the web site yet. Bob had mentioned that he thought it would be the best machine for the variety of projects I do. So far, it seems to be a very good intermediate machine. I'm sure the machine has it's limits, but none that I'll or I believe most people would hit. Mainly, I do motorcycle bags, holster, wallets, and belts. It is a cylinder arm machine with a walking foot and a combound feed. Set up on a lower table, vs the more common stand. I has a servo motor. Thread sizes are from 138 to 347, I believe. I've only run 207 on it so far (top and bottom). I had a small issue with the shipping. The table was damaged in shipping. I, like most on here, have a day job, so my sister signed for it and didn't notice the damage to the table. Bob was great and set new legs for the table out and I had them a few days later. Of course, like most new machine owners, I've already pestered him with a list of questions. He takes his time and responds to each one. I'm sure I'll have some for you guys too. I'm not sure of the etiquette of discussing pricing, since it isn't on the website yet, but i will say it was the most affordable option for me looking for a new machine. Being new and not knowing how things are supposed to be operate or look, I figured I was better off with a new one. There is a learning curve and there are still some issues I'm having. The one that's nagging me, is sometimes, when I'm done sewing and pull the piece out, it is like the last stitch isn't set in the middle. It's hard to explain, but its like it was set and I'm pulling it out from the underside of the project. Other than that, it's going good. I practiced for about fifteen minutes then sewed a holster. I'm pleased. So, if you are thinking of a new machine, call and ask Bob about the new 3200.
  16. Hi all! Last year I bought this Cobra Class 4 sewing machine new. Since then, I have used to sew prototypes of our leather handbags. We are now working with a patron maker and this machine was not getting used for the past 2 months. Since I am not finding any use for it I'd rather see it go to a new home. I have been the only person using it and it is LIKE NEW. It has been used very lightly for about 12 months, regularly oiled, and always kept indoors. I got the 4-P Premium package, including various accessories to go along with it. I will be also including several thread bobbins, needles, etc NEVER had an issue with it. Regular price $2795 plus tax. Asking $1900, firm. I am in Santa Monica, CA, area. Pick up only. Thanks!
  17. Hello, I am working on the tensioning of my consew 206rb-5 I have two images here, one of the top side and one of the bottom. To me - a novice on a machine like this - the top is looking good, but the bottom thread appearance seems off? My first thought is to tighten tension for the top thread? It is already pretty tight though - enough that it is very difficult to pull the piece out when the stitch is doen, I have to manually pull some thread from the tensioner then my leather can be removed from below the needle. Thanks!
  18. Well, it's not leatherwork, but I've been doing some sewing Good News - I finally got round to fixing a strap that had torn off my rucsac; a real fiddly job that I'd been putting off for weeks Bad News - I dropped a needle inside, and lost it; I expect I'll find it the hard way in a couple of months time.
  19. I have to post this piece of art for a good friend Karen Conover in south central Va. She has no idea that this is being shown. She was handed one piece of black and gold material and asked to creat a piece of fiber art, and that she did, this beautiful Quilt / Wall Hanging sewing machine is amazing! I thought my friends on this board could appreciate it. What a talented artist this lady is... George Doyle Unionlevelleather.com
  20. Hello everyone: I am new to the forums, but have garnered some really great information. I came across this GA5-1R that has been converted to be Hand Cranked, http://www.ebay.com/itm/221774256185?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I was wondering the viability of such a modification? I have a Sailrite LS-1 with the Monster Wheel and it does fine when turned by hand with thin leather. I would appreciate a more experienced opinion of this, as it would be great for Boy Scouts. Thank you Ed
  21. Can anyone give me any information on a SINGER 152K103. I cannot find any information about this sewing machine and I have one I am looking at. Thanks alot!
  22. New in box. Asking $1000. This is the newer aluminum model. Material guide ($120), Left presser foot, right presser foot, and center presser foot ($37 each) also available. Could make a deal to throw them in, if you're interested... This is a cool little stitching machine, but I recently decided to combine workshops and tool-share with a fellow leather-working friend who already owns one. Email me at Leathertammy@gmail.com
  23. I buy and sell new leather jackets. Once in a while from shipping I get one that has a thread cut on a hem. I have two right now that have one place on the bottom hem of the jacket loose. The thread got snagged on something and got cut. So each spot has only a few loops of thread loose. I admit I know nothing about sewing leather. I got some matching color thread (jacket is brown with brown thread) and some hand needles. I assume I should start a few holes up from the open spots and sew pass the loose spots a ways, right? But how do I stop the other ends of the main thread from slowly working loose? Will the new stitching stop it? I know this is a very basic question but again, I hardly ever sew, and never have on leather. Thanks for any help. Bill
  24. I just finished up a restoration project I've been working on for several months, rebuilding and repainting a Singer 96-10. I'm in the process of fine-tuning him at the moment, but before I call it good, I want to ask the community a question. For anyone that owns / has used a gear-driven 95 or 96 class, do you notice the whizzing of the gears during use? I didn't actually sew with this guy very much before dissasembly, so I can't recall if I could hear the gears back then. When I was assembling him, I couldn't get sound from the gears to completely disappear. I got it quiet, but when he's running at speed, there's a definite whizzing noise. The teeth on these gears are just straight, not helical or hypoid, so I don't expect the sound to be non-existant... but I'm surprised it's making as much noise as it is. If you don't notice the sound of the gears, there's a couple things I can think of checking: I haven't packed enough grease in the gear boxes they need to be aligned in a specific way, with the correct teeth mating at the right spot they simply haven't been adjusted to quite the right spot. Should anyone have something to say on the matter, I would appreciate it! The results of my work: During reassembly
