  1. I have come across a Singer 45k 3 stitching machine for sale with original cast iron table which I'm very interested in. I'm wondering if anyone knows the weight of the full machine and if it can be taken apart to be transported? Also would like to know what thickness it can stitch through? Thank you to anyone who can help!
  2. Hello all, I am a frequent visitor to this forum however this is my first post. As well as an active leather worker I am also a keen collector of industrial sewing machines. I recently picked up a Singer 45K (I'm not sure what subclass as the brass plaque is missing or has been removed. The serial number AE190567 indicates that its from around 1935-1938, it has a jump foot and no reverse). Its in good condition in the main part with one exception - I significant bend at the drive end of the oscillating shaft (part number 91171). The bend is binding up the oscillating roller in its guide. My question is does anyone here have a spare oscillating shaft (part :91171) that they would be willing to sell? If not I will have to try and repair the shaft which would be tricky or machine a new one. Many thanks. Josef.
  3. Hi, I've cracked a major drive component in a 45k-93- this is a 1964 late model 45 with reverse- image below. I am seeking a replacement part, which I believe works in a cam- type arrangement? and links the main drive shaft to a rod which goes to the bottom of the machine. As the machine is not yet freed up (thus the cracking!) I'm not sure what it does, or how exactly it works under movement- but given I can't find the part in other exploded views of 45's I think it must be associated with the reverse function (not than many 45s have reverse)- image below shows the cracked part (view through top inspection hole with the top of the machine to the right)- about 5cm long fixed with two bolts. Hoping someone can help, or guide me to parts list or supplier of odd bits... I think this may be hard to find her in Tasmania, Australia. Oh, when tapping parts with a hammer to free things up, remember to see what they are attached to before you decide how hard to tap... (and use a soft face hammer and/ or something like a piece of wood...hmmmm).
  4. I recently got a Singer 45k25 machine up and running. Ive got a standard presser foot on it now. Works great. However, Id like to try out a roller foot. Unfortunately, I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone have any leads on where to find one? Could I fit one that is meant to go on another sewing machine? Anyone selling?
  5. Hi Everyone, I've been lurking around for a few years now but haven't asked any questions because I've always been able to find a thread with the information I'm looking for. I have found a few threads discussing Singer 45Ks but none specifically about the 45K52. I've been making belts, wallets, gun holsters, card cases, knife sheaths and dog accessories for about 5 years. I feel like it's time to turn my hobby into a business, which is why I bought this machine I picked the machine up over the weekend. The guy who was selling it bought it to fix horse blankets and harnesses but ended up with some health problems and can't operate the machine anymore. I was able to thread it, based on the 45K manual that found on the forum, and run the machine before I bought it. It's obviously an old machine but in great shape and had been recently re-built and tuned by a professional Industrial sewing machine repair man. People in the area swear by this repair man but so far I haven't gotten any response to my phone calls. I'm pretty sure, from my reading, that it should be a decent machine for belts, dog harnesses and leashes, and maybe knife sheaths and gun holsters too. My questions are: Do I actually have it threaded correctly? Depending on the leather I'm putting through it, it sometimes pulls the knots through the bottom or top of the leather. Is this a tension problem? It will only make an actual stitch at the slowest crawl. If it picks up any speed the thread breaks. Could this be a tension problem or something else? How do I set the tension? After looking through the manual that I found here, and then inspecting my machine, I think I'm missing some features that other 45Ks have such as: reverse and adjustable stitch length. Does this machine really not have an adjustment for stitch length? What is the wheel to the lower right, near the belt? Is it a bobbin winder? Finally: what kind of foot does it have and should I get something different? Thanks for all of the information that I have picked up here over the past few years. I hope you all can help me out with some of these questions.
  6. I bought a Singer 45K25 awhile ago and I am just getting around to figuring out how to work it. I am pretty new to leather sewing machines, but I think I am about to get started on a project. I was contemplating trying my hand at sewing with linen cord. I just got a lube pot and now I need to find some tread and needles. I have a few questions.... What linen thread should I buy? Left or Right twist? Where to buy? What kind of lube should I buy? Advantages/Disadvantages What size of needle should I buy?
  7. About a month ago I came across a Singer 45K53 cylinder arm machine that has independently adjustable upper and lower feeds. It came with an illustrated parts list, but no operators manual. I'd like to learn what I can about how it operates and how it's adjusted. I've looked extensively for the manual, but no luck.. If any one is familiar with the 45K53 or has a manual, I would sure appreciate the opportunity to chat with you. Thank you, thank you very much.
  8. Hi, I have bought a singer 45k21 and the needle is scraping the shuttle frame causing the thread to brake after a few stitchings. Before it brakes it unravels. I am using a 200 needle with a 10 thread. Is this a easy to solve problem? With regards, Dennis
  9. Hello, I've recently acquired a Singer 45k that I cleaned up well ant that is running beautifully However when I bought it it was set-up for freehand stitching with a presser foot raiser (that links a plunger finger to the main head cam and the presser foot shaft), a "blind" needle plate, and no feed dog. I've managed to get a hand on a feed dog but I later realized that, I don't have the mounting screw In the Singer 45K21 "Illustrated List of Parts" I tracked down the part number to be 704c and have a nice drawing of a screw , the part is referenced in various Singer models under different usages ... but got nothing near some specs that would allow me to have a correct replacement. Would there be someone kind / sapient / documented enough too tell me the actual diameter and thread specs of that screw ? Any 45K owner that would also own a caliper and thread gauges ? Any direct source of spare screws ? Thanks for any info. Regards, Lorenzo PS : This is my first post, I try to be sensible but, I'm still not too familiar with the forum so please forgive if this is not the right place.
  10. To complete the restoration of my Singer 45K25. Please reply here or with a PM. Thank you, thank you very much.
  11. Hello, I am really new to the forum, but this place has been a grt place, to help me start with a leather projects & crafts. after working for while, I decided to buy a machine and I need in terms of recommendations, feedbacks etc., in help buying cylinder arm machine. which is capable of using big thread and needle size to work with Bridle butt leather of 2 to 3 layer of 10 to 13 oz leather. I am considering of buying singer 45k89, with alternative foot. But, i read so many post and articles on this forum about foot marks left on the work piece (veg tan/bridle leathers). I looked around and I kind of made up my mind to go with adler 105-64 needle feed, which I believe can help in reducing the marks on the leather, since its a needle feed and i can grind the grooves on the feed dog! I will be delightful, if member of this forum can help me in deciding, to which cylinder arm machine to go for ? and where can I buy it from. People who are willing to sell their adler 105-45 or any cylinder arm sewing machine within uk, inbox me with price and other details? NB: I am not willing to spend too much, looking somewhere around 400£ to 500£ Any feedback or response will be very much appreciated. Thank you
