I have no idea where else to ask this, but I have found more information about the singer 42-5 here, than anywhere else. I am starting a saddle and blanket repair business, and have the opportunity to buy a singer 42-5. After reading other forums, I think i will do quite well for the blanket repair, but I have no idea what it is worth. All the parts are there, and it was in good working condition 1.5 years ago before it's owner passed away. The owner used it for blankets, saddle pads, and canvas work on a regular basis. It has been in storage since. I know that without actually looking at it, no one can give an exact value, but a ballpark range would be great. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!

thread problem PolyArt 20 thread issues on Pfaff 545

So I got 10 unused spools of PolyArt 20 thread with a machine I bought, perfect colors for what I do, but for some reason I just can't get it to work with my Pfaff 545 - I get these weird kinks... I've tested this thread with a Durkopp 239, A Juki 562 and a Singer 111G156, and it works without problems on all of them, no problem getting great stitches. And this Pfaff 545 works perfectly with all thread I tested accept this PolyArt thread. So I tested a bunch of needle sizes, I've gone through the whole range of bottom and top tension, I played with the hook timing, I played with the needle position, I played with the bobbin case opener timing, I deburred the slot in the needle plate, it feels like I tried everything, but I just can't get good stitches with the PolyArt thread on the 545... It's driving me nuts - I just can't understand why it works in the other triple feed machines with horizontal bobbin but not with my Pfaff... And yeah, the top tension is a bit to high in the picture, but even with balanced or too low top tension, overall too low or too high tension, I still get these kinks in the thread... span widgetspan widget -
Upholstery Pro who was my friend recently passed and left me his two workhorse sewing machines. They are located in Stockbridge, GA and I'm trying to find them a good home. Reasonable offers will be seriously considered as they are not my cup of tea. I'd rather be fishing. This web site just seems to be the natural place to be. PFAFF 145 H4 with table and motor and a Singer 111w155 by itself need to be put back to work. Email any questions you may have and I'll look for any replies posted here.

Hello We have the option to buy a Singer 91k5 glove machine, it seems all in good order but has anyone out there recently purchased one and could give us an idea of prices. Also, if there are specific things to look out for. We have a large collection of industrial machines and are familiar with buying and restoring other models but this is our first venture into a post-bed "type" machine. Thanks in advance for any info.

I am looking at a Singer 807 straight stitch zig zag sewing machine, it seems to be a forerunner of the 20U, and its practically identical to the Bernina 217, I am wondering if anyone knows of this Singer machine and your opinion? I cant find anything about a Singer 807 on google apart from a few photos, more articles are more infromative about the Bernina 217, which seems to take a DPX1 needle, and has a backward facing roatary hook, and a stepped zigzag control on the front (there is not cam arrangement on the back of this machine) would just like your opinion of this machine, thanks amateursewing

Looking for some help please. I have bought an old Singer 29K171 and is busy taking it apart and cleaning it. Replacing parts and bringing it back to life. But I have hit a snag. How do I remove the pin which holds the shuttle driving cam gear. All parts of the machine is badly funked up. Wd40 has helped and all other pins slipped out. But this one is stuck and I am not sure if it is meant to release to one side only.

Hi There, I'm new to the forum, although i'm a long time lurker as this seems to be the best place to get opinions on anything leather. I'm in the market for a walking foot or roller foot sewing machine and found a local kijiji listing for one of each. The first is a singer cylinder arm machine with what appears to be a landis badge (second picture), and the second is a post bed roller foot sewing machine with a supreme badge and a separate landis badge (i think) - this looks like a Landis TK51(third picture), but i'm really not that experienced with sewing machines and was wondering your opinion. Can anyone help identify these? Can you give me any info about quality? They are selling for $600 each and i really have no context about sewing machine pricing. Regis -
I'm pretty new to sewing. I have a consew 206RB in very good shape. The main purpose for me getting into the field is for shoe making. Before anybody goes there, I am aware that a post roller foot is the best machine for such work, but I didn't have post bed money. I bought a good machine that I could afford. I also plan to venture to other things which will require a flat bed. Anyways, the foot marks my leather. I have already read the manual and loosened the screw at the very top to relieve some pressure, which did help. But I was told that there is a screw to loosen for the outer foot and inner foot, and since I'm a rookie I really don't know which one I loosened. It's the inner or "walking foot" that leaves marks, they can easily be rubbed out of suede, but not leather. Anybody have some suggestions?? Even on tools that can rub marks out? Also, if you're interested in this machine shoot me a pm. If I can't figure out how to get this to stop marking my leather I MAY be looking to sell it to buy a machine that can. Located in Ohio. I have a Singer 17-23 with a servo motor and speed reduction pulley system ($400.00) and a Seiko STW-8 consew clone with a servo motor and an oversized drive pulley ($500). Hello All, My name is Blu, Im just discovering this site, but Im already learning a lot from everything on here. I have my own sewing operation in San Francisco, focusing on Denim and Leather things, and I just have acquired an bunch of new machines, all Singers, and am needing help finding some of their user manuals. The main user manuals im after are for the Singer 133K18, and the Reece 101 Bulldog just got this beast into the shop and would really benefit from having a manual for this guy. Also any background history of its functions and uses would greatly be appreciated. Again, looking for the Manual for - Reece101Bulldog The rest of the machines are: Singer —111WSV14 - 111W100 - 246-5 -153W101 If anyone has the user manuals for any of these guys, thatd be very helpful. Also any history or knowledge you have of them as well. A few of them are still in prime condition, but a few have definitely seen better days. I want to bring them all into better condition then when I got them. What are the proper ways to clean these old cast iron singer machines? I plan on cleaning off the rust and everything properly, and adding new black paint to it as well. Any suggestions? Thanks, Blu -

Hi there, First post so apologies if I do something wrong. I'll be brief to save an essay but I can provide more info if people need. MACHINE: 132k10 (Scottish made '42) NEEDLES: 23, 26 (and a smaller than 23, not sure off the top of my head) THREADS: 20s, 10s, 8s (138, 277, 346) ISSUE(S): 1. Hook is defecting needle in normal operation. Needle is installed correctly. 2. Thread catches between the bobbin case and retention arm/spring (name?). Less noticeable with thinner thread but is audible and noticeable with thicker stuff. Not sure if this is normal for tensioning but seems to create a fair bit. 3. Occasionally a large loop of top thread is created that actually loops over the outer hook body, I'm guessing this is where the big lock ups are occurring. I guess that sometimes it slips off and carries on sewing and others it's jams. The machine appears to be in time and tensioned correctly (minus some very fine tuning). It will sew, and sew a pretty stitch but then it goes wrong, randomly. It makes a hollow "clunk". Vaguely similar to noise if you rattled the bobbin case inside the hook. This happens on the upstroke at the same time the tension becomes almost solid from the upper thread. Resulting in a mess on the backside. Chop and reset, sews fine again until...repeat above. It seems to happen regardless but more frequently if I cross over stitching and/or raise the presser to foot to rotate the work (needle in the BDC position). Threading and tension is right to my knowledge but I'm open to scrutiny on that. I've tried with the single and double wrap on the main tension (as per a YouTube video). Runs better with the double. This was the short version, sorry.

Hi all, I have a singer 44-81 glove machine, the one that sews and trims the leather close to the sewn edge. The Singer manual states it uses 16 x 97 Needles and I can not locate any. I’ve tried my local sources only to be told they have never heard of this size. Does anyone have a lead on needles or any assistance they could offer up. It would be much appreciated as I have this machine to make falconry gloves and I’m really looking forward to seeing what it can achieve. Thanks in advance!

Hello Everyone, First time posting here so please be understanding with terminology and what not - any help/suggestions is appreciated. I have what I believe is an early singer 16k SV - only issue is there is not a model number tag on it like most (aside from the serial number - 5603810 - 1883) - Do you agree with this or have any reason for why it could be a different model? Hopefully once this is confirmed I will be able to track down and eliminated a few of these issues: 1- When taking off the tension part from where the handwheel attached my brother broke it. I have no idea what this piece is called and have been searching high and low. It seems to have been connect by a pin to an internal spring maybe? We have not tried to remove the part stuck in the rod yet as I do not want to make a bad situation worse. I really feel even knowing the name or part number would really help. 3- I also believe that I have a jump foot and long beak shuttle - my brother and I broke the top foot and I am looking to replace this as well - any suggestions? 4- Needles, needles, needles....can anyone tell me what you would try first/what to look for? 5- Does anyone know what this little clip would be called on the slide plate? It still stays on but I would like to complete as much as possible. Again, thanks in advance and any iformation and or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I recently bought a Singer 16-188. It was very dirty and I have replaced some parts, but it was a steal at $25.00. I am an experienced seamstress, so threading a machine isn't new to me, however, I am not sure I have this correct. I have searched and searched the internet for a diagram of how to thread this machine and I am still empty handed. When I try to sew with the machine after I have it threaded (at least my guess at threading), it won't stitch. It is connecting around the bobbin, so I don't really know what the issue is. If anyone has a diagram of how to properly thread this machine or has any idea of why it isn't stitching, I would really appreciate the input. Thank you!

For various complicated reasons we are ceasing to do boot work and so we will be selling our Singer 29K60 machine. This is a long arm treadle model with the "splittable" arm ( there are similar machine out there with a one-piece arm which are virtually impossible to service). It has been drilled to accept a motor at some stage but we have used it as a treadle machine for the last 12 years or so. We are open to reasonable offers or would swap for a Singer 46K49 / Allbrook & Hashfield / Techsew 402 or similar. Posting here before posting anywhere else. This is a very nice, working machine. The table hardware is included but will need a new top making as it is for a short arm machine. By all means contact us for further information.

Hello, I have recently picked up a 29k71 (electric but using the hand crank) and I got it sewing cloth, finally. Although when im sewing anything over 1-2 oz veg tanned leather it does not move the leather with the foot. With a little push of the material it feeds kinda alright but if I stop applying pressure its back to not pushing enough and thats not the way its suppose to be so I would like to know whats wrong and get it fixed. I understand that these machines are old (I think mines from '64) and parts wear. Any help would be much appreciated. take care all! happy sewing!

Have been experimenting w/ various needle bars/gears/racks, etc across several Patch machine manufacturers. Ex. An Adler 30-1 needle bar is $500+ but the Singer 29K71 needle bar is $50 and is a slightly different length. Ex. The Taking TK2971 is a decent Taiwanese machine but not as durable as Adler/Singer so we hybridize it w/ 29K71 parts. Making less expensive or better quality parts work is a necessity. W/O adjustable needle bar height, the only alternatives are to 'adjust' the 29x3 needles using the clamp or to hopefully determine and procure the correct length needles which is where I ran into the issue I need help with. Nowhere on the web, and I'm good w/ this stuff, can I find a reference chart that will tell me the lengths of commercial needles. Ordered some 332LG 120/19 suitable for Adler 30-5 and 30-7 but they were too long and didn't have enough shank to grind off the necessary amount. What I think I'm looking for (to make Singer 29K71 needle bar work in Taking TK2971) is a 50mm overall length needle. Scarf and thread hole issues aside, I'll start w/ length and go from there. I probably should have just called Glenn but I thought I'd ask everybody. Thanks! Once we get past this issue then it's on to solving the Adler 30-1 $400+ and impossible to find shuttle carrier.

Hi All, I recently purchased a well used Singer 111W155 locally. Came with an old singer table, GE motor and Singer Clutch. I transplanted it into a more modern table. It was sewing fine but seemed to be skipping stitches. So i went shopping for new parts. So far i replaced the Timing belt (Was not broken but seemed about to), Hook (The basket was loose), New Tension Disk set, new bobbins, new needles. I cleaned it and lubricated it, Timed it and it is still skipping stitches. I tried everything... new needles, different thread different material and feed speed and still no luck. It seems to work fine for a while then every once in a while, it skips a stitch, sometimes 2 or 3 then goes back to normal. This can happen consistently on test pieces with about 3 inches of stitch so its pretty bad. The machine is quite worn and the feed dogs and throat plate seems worn also. The foot is a narrow foot set and also seems to be worn. I suspect what is happening is that the hook is able to get the loop most of the time but due to the slop in the foot or dogs or throat plate, the needle deflects and its just enough to miss that loop. I keep playing with the hook adjustment to get it close to the needle scarf and it seems every time i look at it, its in a different position (Either too far or touching the needle). I thought about the worst, too much wear in the needle bar bushings or even worst a bent needle bar but im really thinking it needs new feet, a new throat plate and feed dog. Before i drive myself crazy and spend more money on parts, can anyone think of what i missed? Thank you!!!! Andre

Wondering if anyone has an old damaged machine they’d be willing to sell some parts from, or could direct me towards a source for parts. I’ve circled the two parts from the manual attached. I’m specifially looking for the pulley lock nut #17 and the Segment ring #19 I do also need a connection belt but I have found these online.

I see many requests for manuals for Singer Industrial Machines. Some have gone unanswered, and some are subject to long and tedious discussion with either no satisfactory answer, or an answer hidden deeply away. Of course, there are also plenty which have been answered quickly and succinctly. By doing some research and seeking out some of those hidden answers and others less hidden, I think I have found all of those that have been asked for, as well as many others. I am not an expert, and don't claim that this is an extensive list, but it is a pretty good start for those trying to find the manuals, parts lists and service manuals. The list I have attached starts with a few of the sources which are very helpful. All of the manuals listed are free, and I suspect the list owners would appreciate it if you can send them any manuals that they are missing. So before you pay for a manual, check these lists first.
