  1. Hello and Thank you excepting me into the Group. I have just acquired a 111W SV14 Industrial Singer sewing Machine. With stand/table and some other accessories. Assorted string, one needle and 6 different size scissors.. The machine was in a garage for 13 years that I know of. I acquired it from a 92 yr old lady who told me it was her husbands father machine. I have since cleaned it and re-oiled and greased it. I am waiting on a new timing belt which should be here tomorrow via USPS. The original one broke while I turned it by hand to make sure it was not locked up. Interesting way they made the timing belt back in the day. Looks to be a nylon string with three heavy wire clips per tooth. The closest machine to mine that I have found researching it is the 111W101. I have reconditioned the table lamp and string base for the spool tree. I have not touch the machine head except for cleaning and re-greasing it. The lacquer paint is chipped and scratched on the head but it is original and definitely shows it was a machine that was well used a lot in it's hay day. I would love to learn more about it. But we all know this SV model and many others have no records available. Would love to share pictures of my project, but Sorry my photos are to big to upload here. they are 2mb each or a little bigger. Thank you again Sam
  2. Hi, I am new to the forum and have been reading around. Lots of great info here! I have recently inherited a Singer Patcher 29k71 that used to belong to my grand father who used to be a cobbler. He had lots of those, unfortunately, he ended up selling most of the old machines but fortunate for me, this one survived and was passed down to me. I was able to get it completely restored and repaired but i still cant get it to sew properly. I know the problem but i dont know how i can fix it. Problem is that it is timed properly but it constantly gets jammed because the thread ends up under the shuttle carrier. as such, i ordered a replacement shuttle carrier (not an original part) and installed it but i still have the same problem. I was able to get it to sew a few times but it ends up jamming in the end. What i noticed is that the bearing between the shuttle carrier and the driving pinion seems to stick up a little too much. As such the shuttle carrier is too high? Other thing i was thinking is that the hole on the shuttle carrier where you put the set screw is too low and when fastened on the driving pinion and there is too much play. Or the driving pinion is worn down and there is too much play. Either way, before i buy anything else, i could really use some help. Thanks! Andre
  3. Hello all, I just picked up my first sewing machine, an old Singer 78-3. It seems to be in good functional order, but the prior owner only did upholstery. It came with a ton of standard point needles, but none of the cutting point needles for leather. Looking at the manual, it says the needle variety is "16x100" for leatherwork. I have not been able to find these anywhere, and none of the compatibility tables I have found list alternatives. Does anyone have experience with what needles this machine takes, or can point me in the direction of where to find the old 16x100 type? I would like to run up to the 138 thread I have read that this machine is capable of, which sounds like either a size 22 or 23, correct? Thanks!

  5. Ive been making leather wallets and tool holsters by hand for years. I read here to look for a singer 211. My dreams came true. I purchased a singer 211g166 this weekend for 150.00. It comes with its table. Its old clutch motor has been replaced with a brand new 3/4 horse servo system. Drove 1 1/2 hours each way to get it Ive never used a sewing machine before. Whats the first thing i should do?
  6. Went to the local antique mall today looking for a Singer 27 or 127 to sew inlay material to knife sheath front panels, and perhaps other thin material projects such as wallets, etc. (probably by hand wheeling the machine, light thread.) I didn't find either of those machines, but went into a booth that was being worked on by its owners. They asked what I was looking for, and they pulled out this old beat up Singer that was missing parts, etc. I started to leave when the price started at $30, and was eventually lured back in when it dropped to $10. I believe this is a 15-90 but doesn't exactly match photos I've found online...can anyone help confirm this? Also, the serial number appears to start with a Z, but the online sources I checked for dating Singer's don't even have any listings for Z serial numbers? I haven't begun to tear into the machine yet or research missing parts, but if anyone wants to point out any problems or obvious missing parts, please feel free. It turns freely via the wheel, although sounds like it needs at a minimum a good oiling and/or greasing. What is the purpose of this style of presser foot, by the way?
  7. I recently inherited a Kenmore e6354 sewing machine that needs some TLC and parts (foot pedal). It was my grandmothers and I would love to use it if the cost (maintenance+parts) justifies the value of the machine. The first quote I received was just under ~$200 for parts and repair/tuning. I noticed Tandy is selling a Singer 4452 that can also be found on Amazon for $207.00. I'm trying to decide whether I should invest in the older machine or buy a new one. I plan to use a machine to sew leather bags and heavy canvas/denim bags. Would either of these work to sew through two pieces of ~6oz leather? Thank you all in advance for the help! Jack
  8. Strictly it arrived a couple weeks ago but I've not had much time to fiddle with it until now. Singer 19-10 feed-up-the-arm zigzag from 1951 in very tidy condition. There's very little information available on this apart from what's in the Singer catalogue: Uses A/15 type bobbins and is a drop-feed. Bed gives about 9" of space behind the needle. Uses an unusual presser foot -- from the parts list it looks like a couple were available, one with some sort of guide blade for butt stitching (missing from mine). I'll try and improvise something from standard feet. Stitch length up to 3/16" (4mm) and ZZ throw up to 5/8" (8mm). No reverse. Mine looks like it's had very little use. Apart from a few shipping injuries (anyone got a spare Simanco 7170 lifting lever?) it only needed 60+ years of dried grease cleaned out and a heavy oiling to stitch beautifully. Listed needle size is 16x87, which is now obsolete so I picked up a few different sizes of 16x230 which apparently is the same except with a scarf. When it arrived it was stitched off with TKT30/V92 jeans thread but not having any of that on hand I tried TKT20/v138 nylon, which is what I normally use on a similar weight machine. Unfortunately it kept binding inside the shuttle race and skipping stitches at the right throw of the ZZ. The shuttle driver is pinned so can't be adjusted. TKT40/v69 works great. Overall I'm very pleased with this machine. Although it wasn't exactly cheap it was a lot less expensive than any other transverse-feed machine with similar capabilities I have been able to find. I'm excited about the new designs I can offer which this opens up for me.
  9. Would this be a model capable of leather work... and would any one happen to be able to ID it?
  10. Hi, I was looking to start sewing leather goods for accessories. Belts, wallet, holsters, etc. Having a hard time finding information on this particular model. I have attached the manual as well. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated. I would like to use this machine as it was out of my grandfathers building. Thanks, Brandon 96-87_107.pdf
  11. I' considering the purchaseof a claes or singer 29k type Patcher to help me sew handbags. Have a singer 201k M2 and a techsew 5100 already. One place I read suggested that Patchers can't or don't sew straight very well and leave presser foot marks. Can anyone comment re this? Don
  12. Wanted to buy: Adler 30-5 or 30-7 long arm patching machine.....with or without treadle stand. Doesn't have to be pretty, but does need to function correctly. Thanks
  13. Hi all! I'm working on a deal to buy a singer 16-41. I've spend hours combing the various websites and threads on singers and I'm finding conflicting info. So my questions are: Is the 16-41 a walking foot machine? How thick can it sew? This one is treadle powered, can it be hooked up to an electric motor. I'm a sewing machine novice so thanks in advance Rich
  14. I'm looking at purchasing a Singer 29k and the shop that closed has 2 for sale. A 29k71 for $150 and a 29k58 for $200 both work well. I've researched the best I can on them both and read through various threads here on them most were from a few years ago so thought I'd ask as well. From what I can tell they seem pretty equal or am I missing something? I'm contemplating just offering them $300 for both, worst case one could always be used for parts. Any thoughts on this - get both or get one - if so which one? Appreciate the guidance/input.

    Singer 211g151

I recently got a singer 211g151 and have been trying to sew leather holsters on it. I’m new to leather work. I been having trouble with the thread bunching up around the bobbin and/ or cutting the thread. Is there a way to get this machine to sew leather or am I wasting my time messing with it? I am using the braided wax thread and sewing 5-6 oz leather. Needle goes through the leather with ease it just doesn’t tighten on the bottom side resulting in the bunching up and cutting thee thread. Any help is appreciated

  18. Hello, can somebody identify that sewing machine? It looks quite cool and heavy duty but I can't find any information about the producer. Thank you for your help. Regards
  19. Hi I have a Singer 196K205 that seems to be running well, albeit needs a new table and motor. I have failed miserably to date it as the 'EY' serial numbers on the many lists seem to stop sometime prior to mine. Can anyone suggest a date for the machine or the whereabouts of the list that takes 'EY' numbers as high as mine? Also, you can see how tired it is, would it be worth painting, but thereby losing the transfers? Are there any 196K205 specific users manuals other than the parts list, or can I use a 96K manual, and what is the difference. Thank you all Harry
  20. Hello ever one I have just recently bought a few singer 29k71, 72, 60,62, 51, 70, and in my search of numbers, manuals, dates and also history I have not found anything on why there are some of the machines that are Grayish blue in color???? Does anyone know a reason or is it that singer just want to change the color that year/model! I have one 29k71 that is grayish blue with a SN# EX644466 it has a tag on it that shows 29k71 but when I look it up on singer it shows it is a 132k??? don't know why???? I have a opportunity to purchase one of the same color but it is a 29k73 long arm small bobbin. Are these color machines anything special or just a color change? Thank you Crfiremech
  21. Hello all. I am looking for an older, affordable, walking foot machine capable of doing wallets, bags, belts, and the like. Something along the lines of a consew RB-1; pfaff 145; pfaff 545. I'm located in the Chicagoland area but doing mind traveling a bit to pick something up. Please let me know if you have, or come across, anything that you think might work for me. Thank you.
  22. Looking for opinions regarding a new patch machine. Our shop uses Singer 29U171A and Adler 30-1 . Motorized and sewing as constantly as we can keep them in shape. Have rebuilt and replaced most parts several times and will do so for as long as we can. Just looking for information regarding new patch machines in case we need to grab one quickly as a backup. The only one that claims made in Taiwan so far it the Econosew. I believe, and correct me please if I'm wrong, Cowboy, Consew, Techsew, Saito, Japsew, Sewline, Ankai are all Chinese made? Is that necessarily bad and is one brand above the others? If anyone wants to sell a Pfaff 8346, we'll give that a go also. Thank you in advance for any advice offered. Very best regards, Sam
  23. I Just bought one.I have transported it home and will be adding new oil to clean it out before I add the oil that will stay when I operate it. How long should I run that first oil to clean it out? The oil I removed was not clear. I was told it was Synthetic Honda Motorcycle oil... There is/was a little bit of brown staining in the oil tank. The oil did not look bad but I am going the traditional route. Also, Is there anything special about these machines I should know? Any parts that regularly fail? Common problems? anything like that? I am extending the clutch actuation? arm to make it less sensitive. (Possibly a servo motor later this spring but not right away I may want a smaller pulley on the motor. I definitely want a larger hand wheel with larger pulley. Not just for speed but for my large hands. I have searched but nothing specific came back and said yeah this is bigger and fits. Also the serial # is AF677193 can anyone tell when it was made? what year? Thanks Sled
  24. Selling a Singer 112w140 (I think) double needle machine. It is in very good shape, bought it from Bob at Toledo Sewing last year. Clutch motor, forward only lockstitch. Asking $600. Must pick up in Columbus, OH.
  25. Hi, two days ago i found near from my house an industrial singer machine that could be my next acquisition. when I went to see it the machine hasn't model mark and the serial number (MH 9112553) don't appears in the ismacs records. Next week I come back with some leather to try it, but I don`t know if I can move the stitch length and I wish see some manual instruction before the test. Someone could please let me kown wich model it is? If I purchase, my idea is use it for harness work. What do you think about? It could be fine? Thanks Merry Christmas for all of you
