I am looking for information on the Singer 46K38 from 1948. All I could find is the below link that states it is for "turned slipper work" up to 1000 stitches per minute, but the brochure looks to be from a 3rd party, not Singer. ISMAC does not even list the 46K38. I am looking to primarily use it for making light fur and leather gloves, but it would be a bonus if it could be used to make medium or heavy weight work gloves as well. Any input is welcome, as I am new to this type of work/hobby. The good news is that it works and is complete with a table, light, 400V motor (German 2 phase) and is only an hour drive from me. Hi, I'm looking at this 78-3 Singer sewing machine. It'll be my first sewing machine. Does anyone have anymore info on it? All I know that it's a walking foot. Made for lighter work. Doesn't have reverse(?) I've googled a bit on it and some use it for leatherwork. How much you think it would/should cost? All the seller knows is that it runs. He's never used it. He bought it over a year ago from a guy that used it for upholstery.

I'm hoping this particular thread will do a couple things. Bring a better understanding of industrial machines for people that may be having trouble, educating those who are deciding to buy new or used. I do know that having a reputable dealer is worth a lot. Thanks to fellow member miaoreo for trusting me to repair her machine to a useable condition. There is a lengthy thread outlining her trials and tribulations with her newly aquired Singer 211G155. I have always been big on education and I hope to share some of what I've learned repairing machines for a living. This website is a never ending resource of information. I know my leatherwork has improved a great deal as a result. During the course of following her troubles, it was obvious to me the machine had been modified poorly and it had multiple issues. No sense beating a dead horse, so on to the issues I encountered: Top and bottom shafts were out of time. Hook timing was too far advanced. Needle bar height was off (I reset to original Singer needle and timed it using existing timing marks that you will now see. Removed original thread lubricator as bottom edge was sharp as a razor.(replaced with Singer guide) Hook compartment cover was wrong one, not enough clearance above hook (replaced with proper one) Replaced tension release pin (old one had been ground down) Replaced entire tension plate Hook was too far from needle. Needle guard was not adjusted. Tension post was bent. Tension release disk was wrong one for the machine.(replaced with proper one) Feed dog hole had been modified WAY too big (I replaced the feed dogs and throat plate to match) Replaced set screw for check spring (head was destroyed on old one) Replaced bobbin basket and tension spring. Latch opener was not adjusted correctly. Adjusted tension release correctly. There as surely some things I didn't list that I'll remember later, but you can see why a novice would have a tough time, though Mia was a real trooper! Regards, Eric

Recently purchased a 153k103 cylinder arm walking foot machine. The machine worked fine days before I picked it up and brought it over to my place. The walking foot is stuck in the up position and lever behind it isn’t working, no tension. The pedal is connected as should be but I don’t feel any tension whenever the pedal is pressed, I have a feeling something is stuck. Not much of a mechanic and the manuals don’t explain much on these matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am selling my well loved Singer 211g165. I bought this machine used a couple years ago and got some great work out of it. I upgraded the old clutch motor to a Enduro Pro variable speed servo motor with a speed reducing pulley that runs great. The motor and pulley were almost $200 alone. It is mounted on what appears to be the original table. The machine was professionally serviced roughly 8 months ago with everything oiled and timing was reset. I have had no problems sewing up to 8-9oz of leather with #138 thread with the diamond point needles. Let me know if you have any questions. Local pick up only. Asking $650 OBO

Hello everyone, I’m new to sewing machines so bare with my poor vocab and knowledge of these types of machines. I’ve done all my leather work up to this point with hand stitching. I recently purchased a singer 29-4. When I got it everything moved, although I did quite a bit of cleanup and oiled it. It was missing the external spring from the back of the machine that rose the presser foot, but I have been able to side step that with a small piece of flat bar and what is a stand in for the sliding block that I intend to fabricate. My question comes in that as I try to thread the machine when I get to the step where I slide the threading wire down the needle bar in the machine head the threading wire gets stuck right near the exposed part of the paddle spring that’s inset into the needle bar. No matter if I go from the bottom or top it get stuck in that spot. It feels like there’s something in the shaft plugging it. I am assuming that this is a different threading wire then is original to the machine but have found and ordered one that seems more similar to the original… I would greatly appreciate any advice that you all could shed on my situation and general information about this machine y’all would care to share. The little I know is that the serial number dates to 1881 Germany and the little bit I’ve been able to glean from reading countless posts on this forum about this type of machine and can gather from the manual that I have and what I’ve seen on YouTube. Hi all, Not a Leather machine per say but i recently was given an old Singer 107W102. It looks in good condition but the head was clearly dropped and the top lever width adjustment and the bracket are broken clean off. I can find lots of parts for that model but not those parts. (224346 and 224347) Besides getting another parts machine or fabricating something, any idea where i can find something? Of course i checked the usual sites including Ebay and found nothing. Thoughts? Thanks!

A customer dropped this off today. he said he used to sew leather with it a while ago, but has been store in the barn for the last several years. I doubt it has been cleaned in a while and the cotton oil wicks were pretty dry. after oiling it, resetting the needle I got the needle to pick up the bobbin thread. is stitches OK but the tensions are shot. He applied paint in the wrong places. So if I decide to keep it, it will get a strip down and some TLC. a quick search on eBay shows parts availability is good. And I don't like the colour. Matthew

I picked up a lock stitch Singer with a unique model number 2281B362. I am sewing mostly canvas, though with some lighter leather details. The machine is in great working order, but I was curious if anyone here has any knowledge of this particular machine? I believe that my best match for manuals would be the 281-22, as this is a needle feed. Can anyone confirm? Anyway, I appreciate the information or insights you all share here. Hi Guys and Dolls. My first post after lurking for 3 months. I love this forum, one of the best I have ever been on. So I have been making a small product from garment leather and was sewing it (or struggling to) with a Singer household machine. I located and purchased a Singer 111W155 with table and new Consew Servo motor for $175. The previous owner was fed up taking the machine in for repair. Right now it won't sew. Leather or fabric won't move etc. It looks like a new timing belt has been installed so I thought I would check the upper and lower main shafts timing. According to this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZXu--P2ips to have the upper and lower shafts in time, the Feed Drive Connector Rod should be at its lowest point of arc and perpendicular to the lower main shaft (see picture 1) and the thread pickup arm is at its highest point and the 2 arrows should be aligned. My arrows are not aligned and my thread take up arm drops 3/8". When I put the arrows together and have the thread take up arm at its highest position my Feed Rod is not in the correct position ( see picture 2) according to the video. What is out of whack or is it supposed to be this way? Thank you, Will Central Florida

Could some one give me some advice on how to set up the timing on a Singer Model 2732. It's not a heavy duty machine it is supposed to sew zigzag and decorative stitching but everything seems out of wack. It breaks thread and sounds like things are binding internally and skips stitches; I'm sure it's the timing. Does anyone have instructions on how to set this machine? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Kevin

As mentioned in another section of the forum, I acquired this 45Ks.V83 last week from FB marketplace. Made in 1916 with three generations in one family, I was so damn excited to find a machine preserved in almost working order. Was also fascinated as the seller shared their family story. I had been looking for a cylinder arm to assist with my work for over eight months. Being an avid Singer fan for over 30 years had me scrambling to make to 1100km trip to pick up this beastie. The renovation went well. Before I had picked up the machine I had some vague dreams of mounting it back on a treadle stand. Two things brought this to an end. 1) the weighted flywheel on the original stands is very rare here in oz. Found some stands but alas not the 2 or 3-geared wheel. 2) when I got the machine the motor and gearing setup was endearing for its history and age. The cast iron stand was also an Australian-manufactured frame. Some questions I hope to share and explore with the talented brains trust here = 1) Can anyone shed light on this version?? 45Ks.V83? The 'V83' is not listed in any archive I can find from Singer at the time (serial no. lists it from the Clydebank Factory. 1916. One of 1500 45k. Quite a big batch. Gearing up for war manufacturing????) 2) Any light on the 's'. Had assumed it was 'Saddler' but only as I had seen it in the factory inventories occasionally. As Stewey mentioned this is unlikely as most of these would enter the saddlery trade regardless. Agree that it could mean 'special' but am wondering is others might have insight. 3) the rectangle work plate has also been hard to find in manuals and catalogues from the time. Stewey also mentioned he had these on his. Is it possible that these were for the Australian market or do others have these plates?? Oval is listed in special order lists from the period. Anyhoo... Adding images of the reno for those interested in the Singer 45K and the next person who might be looking for anything on these wonderful leather stitchers. . Hello all, I've been looking for an industrial zigzag passively for a while and came across a nice Singer 107W5 recently. This seems to be a less common variant of the 107 based on limited posts here and elsewhere. Canvas, straps, upholstery and marine are the majority of my fiddlings. In the manual I noted the following: "Drop feed; positive reciprocating feed slide under presser foot and above the work. Translation please? It seems to be a top side walking foot sort of thing that is sync'd with the feed dogs -- I'd guess. I'd assume better multi-layer feeding is the big advantage -- which sounds great - but are there downsides to this setup? does it help/hurt over lumpy bumpy thick seams, etc? How much clearance can I get under the foot? Is it a no brainer to setup/maintain? Parts issues or complexities? Does it restrict me in some way I'm not thinking about? Only other question might be if the stated 1/4" max zigzag width of the 107W5 is the "standard" amongst lower end industrial zigzag crowd and not worth looking for bigger? Often see 20U's out there as well. I'm not in a big rush and can keep looking but it's a good deal. Does anyone have perspective or experience with the 107W5 and its upper feed that you could share?

Hey guys. I'm so excited that I finally have my Singer 211U567B in hand. I bought it off craigslist and had it shipped for $350. Came with what's in the picture below. I also purchased a new Singer Industrial Table off Ebay for $150. I'm lucky that here in Boise, we have a gentleman who is amazing at servicing these machines. Before he comes over to tune mine up, I need to get it all set up. I have a Reliable Sewquiet 5000 mounted to the table. I've ordered a thread stand, new needle plate and screws, new right slide plate, belt, oil, bobbins and rubber machine rests and hinges. The last piece I'm missing is the oil drip pan. I have found it impossible to find a reproduction or used one online. I am a metal fabricator by hobby and have the ability to bend and weld sheet metal. I was just hoping to get some thoughts on what you've done if you've made your own. would also love to see some pictures. will upload a pic of my complete setup once I get all the parts in. I have a Singer 66-18 with the Simanco BA motor. I know it is not a heavy leather machine but want to use it for lightweight garment leather. The motor runs at high speed BUT has no power. Without the belt, I can easily stop the motor with my fingers. On the machine, the motor can barely run, even without thread or material under the presser foot. I can hand turn the balance wheel easily and I have cleaned and oiled the machine. The motor works better when the belt is tensioned too loose. I have replaced the drive belt. I don’t feel like the problem is the machine but don’t know what to try next. Thanks in advance! Ken

I bought a machine over here in Australia for my better half. I figured these machines are built well and parts are available, so just took the plunge. The timing belt had broken and the previous owners had sourced a new one they were supplying with the machine. The machine was looked over by a mechanic late last year so figured it was a safe buy. I removed the arm bushing (banged it up pretty bad removing it) and installed the new timing belt. I timed it with the take up lever and the arrows and then timed the hook, so she is capable of creating a stitch but there are a few things not right. The presser foot doesn't lift as part of the mechanism just sort of sits on the leather with constant pressure and the feed is out of time. I get the feeling a few things have been moved by the previous owner and trying to figure it all out leaves me feeling a few things are missing. From my studying, mostly from looking at the Consew 226 exploded parts list and the Singer 211 drawings and cross referencing with the 111G156 parts list, I think I am missing at least: 240500 - Tension release slide 240142 - Tension release slide spring 240185 - Vibrating presser bar extension 240188 - Vibrating presser bar spring 350299C - Vibrating presser bar thumb screw (pressure regulating) 200996C - Lifting bell crank cap screw Could the experts here and those with the same machine have a look over these photos and advise if these are required and any other missing parts I may not have picked up. Hello, We just came across 2 Singer sewing machines in storage. One is a double stitch not sure about the model number. The only numbers i could find was W 704753. The other is model 29-4. They both have heavy duty motors. We got them up and running and would like to sell them but not sure on what the going price is. Can anyone help with how much they are worth.

Picked this up for super cheap. It’s set up for double needle. I know you can convert a single needle to double, I’m assuming it can be reversed. Anyone ever done this? Thanks
