Hi all! I recently got some skiving machines from an auction but can’t find any info on this skiver, has anyone seen any like this before?

Looking for my next investment in my leather shop. Not in a hurry, and looking to save money where I can. I'm willing to come get it from just north of Jacksonville Fl.

Anybody familiar with this skiver? It has separate drives for bell knife and feed roll. It is offered by the Hoffmann Brothers out of the Chicago area. It is about 4 hours away by car. The closet dealer around that carries skivers. I would appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks.

I recently acquired a Manufacturers Supply Co. 10a skiver. The previous owner kept it in great shape and there's little I need to do it besides wiping the dust off. It came with an extra bell knife, grinding wheels, two presser feet and an extra drive belt. I was hoping to find a manual on the machine but so far no luck. Does anyone here have one or one from another manufacturer that is close? I'd also like to get a couple more presser feet but not sure what will fit this machine. I appreciate your feed back

We have a LANDIS hand crank skiver that belonged to our grandfather who was a cobbler in the early 1900's The base is a bit rusty but otherwise, it is functional - just needs some cleaning up. We are open to honest bids. The machine is in Michigan.

Hey Leather Pros, I found an older Nippy Skiver for sale. The seller says it turns freely and is in need of a cleaning. There a couple of screws missing and maybe the guide. They are asking $500 for the head only. Is it a good deal?

Help!! The presser foot lifter on my skiver will not stay down. It feels like the spring is shooting it back up whenever I try to skive. I have taken apart my consew dcs-s4 skiver 3 times to try to figure this out but cannot. The instruction manual is really only a parts catalog and doesn’t offer help. The spring inside looks fine. The rare occasion I get the handle to stay in the down position, it will skive for a moment the the handle shoots up and releases the presser foot so it doesn’t skive anything off. I bought it from a sewing shop that recently started carrying skivers for the pandemic demands so they aren’t very familiar with skivers and cannot offer much help. 66285906847__CB624500-FA42-4BA4-A712-97BE830DE189.MOV

Hoping that someone out there will have some advice for me! I recently purchased a Fortuna Simplex and have been working to learn how to use it. I'm having a hard time getting consistency. It has a tendency to do OK then, suddenly, take a much deeper cut. I've read in the manual that the inside bevel on the bell knife is supposed to be "minimal" and I appear to have an inside bevel that is almost as strong as the exterior bevel and I can't figure out why there is even a bevel there at all as I am demurring with the stone and not letting my emory wheel touch the knife at all. The photo is not all that I hoped for but it's hard to get a picture in there! Any experience that anyone can share would really be appreciated. Tom

Purchased a couple of years ago, I thought I would use this skiver more than I do. Used for a few projects, the skiver is in like-new condition. Here's a link to the machine on Leather Sewing Machine Company's site - the company from which I purchased it: https://leathermachineco.com/product/np4-bottom-feed-skiving-machine/ They show it now sold on a pedastal-style table. Mine is in a standard industrial table, like this one: https://americanleatherworks.com/products/cobra-np-4-bell-knife-skiving-machine-1 I am located in Los Angeles, and prefer to sell locally. It retails for a bit over $1500. I would like to get $1200, but am motivated - I need the space!

I'm getting into leather work and need several pieces of equipment as well as hand tools and punches. I'm interested in a hand-crank skiver, kick-press snapsetter (preferably double-head), bell-knife strap splitter, round knife, hole punch sets and end punch sets. Depending on price, might be interested in a large splitter, edge painter or other equipment. I'm located in SW Virginia and can pick up items in NC, SC, TN, WV, KY, OH, or PA if needed. Let me know if you have anything you would like to sell. Thanks!

I’ve had this for several years, and it always worked well for me. Arthritis has slowed me down, and I've not used it in a while; so the blade may need sharpening. $100 plus shipping via PayPal. I'm in Virginia PM me if interested.

Hello all! So I had an incident with my French edge skiving tool the other day.. I recently moved up to using top grade hides and the level of toughness compared to the Tandy special is amazing! But... That being said my edge tool is no longer refined enough to cut the high end hides and I ended up slipping off the leather and getting a nasty gash on my finger. I like to keep my tools sharp and up too this point I thought it was sharp enough. I strop the bottom edge and use Dremel buffer wheel with green compound to get to the hard to reach upper edge. Upon closer inspection I realized the top bevel isn't even and I need to do some significant material removal to true up the edge. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can't modify the bevel without ruining the tool? Any sharpening and honing tips would very much be appreciated! Thanks and God bless!

I've decided to sell my Dixon since I already have a larger Keystone splitter along with a Landis crank. This is a rare machine that is also great for doing lap skives. It was made in England and has the original blade in great condition (no nicks or warping). This is a pull through splitter and the depth is set by the knob on the bottom. I'm asking $500 firm and would prefer local pickup in here Chicago.

Got a good deal from an antique dealer on the much maligned Spittler Skiver. I stripped the old paint off and clear coated the castings. I ground out the old scrapes off the round ring with the index numbers, smoothd the inside handle surfaces and added a small coil spring over the original spring blade. After getting the blade back in shape I find it works remarkably better than I expected. The coil spring may not be the most elegant solution but for less than $3.00 the handles hold well and are adjustable within a skive.
