  1. I recently acquired a D.B. Die Works No. 39 kick press. It is currently without a stand. Before I go ahead and build my own stand for it, do any of you out there have the original stand for this kick press for sale? Also, can you suggest a good source to purchase dies for this machine? I will be looking for dies for Line 20 and Line 24 snaps. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

  3. I could use some help on which snaps to buy and how to best install them. I've tried Sailrite snaps and a Tandy Craftool and had occasional luck, and I have this old FH Smith Universal riveter device but I'm not sure I'm using it correctly or with the right bits/inserts. I'd love to use this since it seems well built, but I can't come up with a combination of bits and crushing strength to set snaps, if there is one (see pic). Right now I'm making tool holders/protectors and flask covers, and I'd like something more elegant for snaps - or at the least, reliable. So, do you use one of these, or can you point me to how to select the proper bit and use it properly? Or, what snaps do your customers love, and what tools do you use to set them?
  4. I found a large lot of the Ligne/line 20 Segma birdcage snaps. The caps are approx. 1/2" in diameter. Line/ligne 16 snaps are approx. 3/8" I put a few pics of the size. They fit the older Case & Western knife sheath retaining straps I will have some for sale once I get it together. Not sure how to list them for sale on this sight but I probably will list them on ebay in the next week or so.. I am new to this site so if anyone knows how people can get ahold of me on this sight, please let me know. Thanks, Tom,

  8. I have a question on snaps. I'm wanting to use a snap for a closure on the top of a simple leather tote bag I make, one like the picture I've attached (not by pic, photo creds to KMM and Co). For the bottom base, since the back of the base post will be seen, can I instead of using a base post, use the cap post with the base socket? So basically I'd be using two caps, but one with the regular socket, and the other with the base socket. I tried it on some scrap leather and it does work, but I'm just not sure about longevity...any thoughts? P.S. Or does anyone know of a supplier that makes such a snap? As I haven't found one that does. Thanks,
  9. Hello Helpful People! I'm in need of assistance. Can anyone tell me where these snaps can be gotten. Many thanks Silverd
  10. Do you want to increase productivity and profits with a great snap machine that is easy to use, and built by a reputable company still in business? One pair (one female, one male) of fully automatic, electric powered, 20 line, snap setting machines for sale. These are older model machines manufactured by the Ho Hung Ming company in Taiwan (https://www.hohm.com). They have a US location at: Ho Hung Ming USA Enterprise, 13525 Alma Ave, Gardena, CA 90249, Phone: (310) 327-4847. I have inquired about these machines from Ho Hung Ming, and they say the machines are older, and parts are no longer inventoried. They do not have owners manuals and no record of the serial numbers. One of the advantages of these older machines is that they are simple mechanical machines built to last. Like an old car, they are easier to repair than newer ones. In 22 years, I have never needed to repair these machines. They still run like a beast. This forum only allows me to load one image, due to file size, but I have lot's of images, that I can email you. I also have some videos of me using the machines that I can send. I purchased the machines from Melanie Machine Company in Vernon CA 22 years ago. The machines have hoppers that hold about 500 snaps. I have used both machines a lot, and they have worked great for me with very minor problems. Occasionally, a mal-formed snap would get stuck in the raceway or throat. These parts are easy to detach and clean out with a tube brush. When a snap gets clogged in the throat, it has always been cleared free with a long nose screw driver. Maintenance is easy, with colored holes to indicate where to add oil. Both machines have locator lights, and come with a simple adjustable guide/gauge. I have cleaned the machines and had them serviced by a sheet metal company who smoothed out all dents and dings. They made and installed a new cover for the male snap machine. It is not painted. The machines are in great mechanical working condition, rust free, with some paint chipping away in small spots. The new owner is responsible for painting the machines. A simple centering gauge is included. The new owner is also responsible for transportation including cost to transport. I do not know how much the machines weigh, but they are very heavy and I am guessing 300 pounds each. I am asking $4,000 (plus 8.5% CA sales tax) for the machines in as is condition, and will consider all offers. The machines are in my storage unit in the mission district in San Francisco. I can show them to you and you are welcome to try them out. Again, these are for 20 line rings snaps, NOT 24 line.
  11. I have 16 sets of (100) qty line 20 buttons and sockets. $12 each or $160 for all (plus shipping).
  12. I'm looking for a supplier of spring steel shims to be used as reinforcements on thumb break holsters. I scavenged this one off of an older holster. 1" on center x 1/2" width would be good. (I hope the photo's big enough, Sheesh!

Hope you can help me. I bought this jacket a goodwill for my grandson. It is in great shape and he wants a hood on it. It used to have one as the snaps are in place for it I’ve looked and looked for snaps to fit these with no luck. I fear regular snaps won’t fit as these look bigger. The diameter is almost 1/4”, about 6/10th of a centimeter. Tried to post pics but they are too big. Any help much appreciated.
  14. Well, I finally made the plunge yesterday. Tandy had a sale on the Pro Hand Setter, and with my discount, it was significantly reduced. I already had a lot of the sets for it, as I'd been planning on using my Harbor Freight press, but couldn't find a way to keep the sets aligned well and using the 2D/3D stamps and alphabet stamps was a bit wonky. This setter has a table with rear guide rails that are adjustable and will really improve accuracy. I can also put hole punches and stitching chisels in it. I tried it out with many of the sets last night, and was impressed. No more clinching over rivets! I still need to get the Segma snap sets and wide rivet set. Line 20 and 24 I have. The only issue I see is they don't provide a way to lock the angle of the alphabet and 3D stamps to keep them aligned with the piece. The Tandy video on using the setter with alphabet stamps shows the guy mis-aligning the first letter very noticeably. I'll have to get into my engineer mode, (yes, be VERY afraid), and see if I can come up with something. Jeff
  15. I try to skive my leather so that it is the best thickness for the application. But, when I try to select a snap, or rivet length, they are always too short, or too long. I know that brass and copper rivets with the burr, I can cut it properly. But it seems that all the "factory" length ones are just wrong, as opposed to just right. Is there a source of "in between" sizes? Jeff
  16. Hello all, Forgive me if this has been covered. I am sure it has been at some point. I am having some brass stamps made so I can do some hot stamping. I currently stamp my makers mark and some requested stamping patterns with a shop press. I am wanting to use an arbor press for accuracy in layout. I plan on buying something inexpensive and having a machine shop bore out the arbor for an insert. My question is does anyone known the thread size and pitch of the most commonly available dies for setting snaps/rivets etc. The insert I have made will be threaded as appropriate and I also want to advise my brass stamp maker on what size rod to make fit the brass stamps. If I am thinking right, the rod that the brass stamps thread onto could be the same size as the insert that will go into the bored hold and fasten with a set screw. The same bored hole will accept the insert that is tapped for the snap setting dies. Clear as mud? Any help you might offer is greatly appreciated as well as a source for good quality snap setter dies. I know Tandy sells them but non sure if they are worth buying or if there is a better option. Thanks in advance, Scott

  19. hello again. I have a problem setting snaps. It seems they just don't want to set properly for me. I thought I would outsmart them and get some snaps from FastSnap Corp. being a "military grade" snap, but nooooooooo, same problem. Is it really a post problem? I mean, I really have to line up the leather and put a leather washer on the post so that the leather is even with the post once you push it through before you whack it? I like to use line 24 and have a setter from Gold Star. Any help appreciated.
  20. I bought out a leather maker in an online auction last year. I've got millions of rivets, clasps, buckles etc etc etc I'd like to sell as one unit. Ive got $300 in it all and it's worth thousands I'm sure. I'm in northern ky and you could pick up in a full size truck. If interested contact me 513-378-7107. I'll never use all of this and I honestly don't have time to part it out and sell it individually. I'll can email pics if interested. Site won't let me upload . Thx.
  21. I know this has been asked before, but are there any lower profile snaps available? I'm using line 24 snaps. I know the line 20 snaps are smaller, but the post isn't long enough to go through 8/9 leather. I also sew a small piece of 2/3 oz over the inside of the snap to protect the guns finish, and that adds even more to the thickness. I saw on another forum that someone suggested using Velcro. Industrial strength Velcro would likely hold better than a snap, but I'm not sure how I feel about that. Gary
  22. I have a like new Weaver Leather Heritage Foot Press and a full set of dies and adapters for holes, rivets, spots, diamond spots, crystals, and snaps. I paid $1650 in 2015 for all. BEST DEAL - Take it all (press and embellishments) for $1500 plus shipping or come to Kentucky to get it. All this would be at least $2250 at wholesale prices. SAVE $750 TODAY! Message me and I will email you a link to a complete list and photos.
  23. I am a huge fan of buckle guy, but I am looking for some more suppliers that offer similar quality/style without minimums. I am specifically looking for some sleek/minimal looking solid brass center bar buckles. It would also need to be a situation where I could continue to buy stock in the future, so I don't think anything on eBay or amazon would be a good choice (unless you know more than I do). Ive checked out buckleguy, OTB, leatherguy, leathersmith, weaver, zack white, tandy, springfield, brettuns... Maybe overseas? I don't know. Thanks! Zayne
  24. I've been working on an experimental piece, one for my own use, and I decided to use line 16 snaps (which are apparently also known as segma snaps I guess? or maybe segma snaps are a kind of line 16 snap?). I had never used them before. Anyway, the caps set beautifully. But when I went to set the studs ... the setter keeps holding onto the stud. I don't mean just a little. We're talking really stuck. Does that mean I haven't fully set them yet? Do I have to keep pounding? It's worth noting that once I finally pulled the setter off (which, when I do it, makes me worry I'm going to pull the stud off completely, rendering the whole exercise moot) the snap system works perfectly. So, basically, I feel like I'm getting to the right destination, just not taking the right road to get there.
  25. I'm looking to replace missing male snap parts for an old leather Harley jacket... the cap has the Harley logo, i need the other half... anyone know where to get these. they measure either 8mm or 5/16" diameter...
