  1. Not sure where to post this so I'll try here. I am trying to find a high resolution vector drawing of a police badge so I can have a stamp made. I attached a photo of the badge that I would like or one similar. Anyone have any idea where I can find one? Thanks
  2. I made this stamp a while ago with the intention to sell it on Ebay, but I think due to Ebay's new selling restrictions on rebel flags, and other confederate items, I'm sure it will be taken down. If anyone on here is interested, I will sell it for $15.. that includes first class USPS shipping.. I accept paypal... private message me if your interested.. The stamp image is 1.75" wide X 1.05" tall.. Ron R.

  4. Has anyone ever tried to make a stamp tool out of wood? If so was it successful? I would love to have a makers mark but it will be an extremely long time before I can make one. Any thoughts?
  5. Hey Folks, I have started creating a template for quick & easy mockups of ideas, and just added a few stamps at random. I'll have to inventory & add the ones I have, but in the meantime I have made the template public. Anyone can view, but you'll need to have a gmail account so you can copy into your account & edit. https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1to5e_FX7RnWwzFGXz6jGsBmVG56h90aIFTvhzOTnzTg/edit?usp=sharing The really convenient thing about google draw is that if you want to keep making copies, you just hold down control while you drag the stamp, and just drag it to where you want it to go. Along the way it will show where it alligns with the centers & edges of other objects in the drawing. What you see in the template now only took a minute or two or clicking around. I'm willing to entertain requests for stamps to add to the template if you give a link to the stamp you want, but no promise on my turnaround time. For anyone interested in adding stamps on their own copies, I've been creating these from vendor images by using the program Gimp, which is similar to photoshop but free. In Gimp, I add a transparent alpha channel, select the stamp area I want to keep with a 5 pixel "feathered" edge, invert the selection, and cut out the excess. Some refining is necessary on stamps that aren't a perfect square, rectangle, or cirlcle. I then crop to the stamp area I wish to keep, export to .png format, and add to the template. For simple stamps, it only takes about a minute. For the 3d stamp in the template, it took maybe 3 or 4 minutes. For carving, I haven't tried this yet, but I figure line art created in the template might work a bit, or uploads of drawing, I don't think those would work as well as the stamps do since the stamps are actual images of stamped leather. Here's the link, fope it proves useful!
  6. Hello all, I'm about to finalize my logo and will be purchasing a stamp or brand. I've been doing some research on my own, but thought it would be a good idea to ask for some recommendations from you fine folks. Still trying to decide between a stamp or brand. The logo will have some fine detail found in small embellishments that I want to make sure will be evident in the final stamp. I will be stamping or branding on both veg tanned and chrome tanned leathers. Just looking to collect any information you'd be willing to lend and recommendations and experiences with stamp/brand suppliers. Thanks a lot! Look forward to hearing what you guys have to say.
  7. I am going to purchase a large (10 x 10 cm) brass stamp to emboss some veg tan. The stamp will fit into my adjustable heated embossing tool and would work well for its intended purpose, but I prefer the look of the stamp when simply hammered or pressed into the leather, rather than burned. I was going to buy a 1/2 ton arbor press from harbor freight to see if that does the job: http://www.harborfreight.com/1-2-half-ton-arbor-press-3551.html The problem with that press is that it only has a 1 inch square ram, and I am afraid that the pressure won't be spread out evenly across the stamp, resulting in an uneven emboss. I was thinking about getting a couple of square pieces of thick metal to place between the ram and the stamp, and then on the opposite side, under the leather, to see if that would help, but I am unsure. Do you guys have any better ideas? The most economical approach is the one I would prefer. Thanks! Zayne
  8. I've got a round bar with a threaded countersunk plate on one end made for my drill press hoping it would convert it to a dedicated embossing press but the impressions are very weak. So far I can only get it to make a okay impression on veg tan if I wet the surface. Any suggestions would be appreciated to try and get a better result from it. My housemate said drill presses don't really exert pressure, so I guess that's my issue. I've tried to put different sized bricks underneath to see if the spring will compress more but it doesn't. I wanted it to do quick stamping jobs.
  9. I am in the process of designing a logo for my leatherwork. I will most likely have three different designs, for the first two, I have figured out that I want to hot stamp, so I will be purchasing through a company that will design them for me, and supply me with the appropriate heating device. But as for the other one, I want it relatively large, about 3 1/2 inches in diameter. How would I go about stamping leather with something that big, and have it be even? What would it be made out of? I really like the results from using heat to stamp leather, so I would prefer that method with this large stamp, if at all possible. Thanks Zayne
  10. I know that custom stamping as a general topic has been covered in a couple dozen threads already. But it seems like nearly all of the suppliers mentioned in those threads only do (or only advertise doing) makers stamps, and the rest do variations on standard designs like really nice basket stamps. What I'm looking for is a spoon stamp. Just a good old simple piece of silverware spoon that I can stamp about a dozen times each into about a hundred bracelets for a good cause, and then probably never use again. I've searched a few times, but any search query involving leather and spoons just brings back results for modeling spoons, not spoon stamps. And I'd happily try to make it myself as is often mentioned, but my hands are laughably unreliable right now, so it's just not that plausible. Jeff Mosby / Grey Ghost has "sample graphics" on his site, though he doesn't say what they're for, so I'm guessing he does this sort of thing. Is he my best or only bet? Or do all the stamp makers do this sort of thing, and just don't advertise it as openly? (I think Infinity looked promising, too, but that's $160 right off the bat, and if this thing gets funded I have $300 for the entire project, so I can't really blow half of it on the stamp.)
  11. Hello, I was wondering if there exists a number punch thatwill quickly and easily line up 4 numbers in a row and give the ability to rotate them... much the same as those inked date stamps work except ths would be non-inked and punched into the cased leather. I number all of my pieces in the order which they were created, so I am looking to speed this process up a bit! Thanks!
  12. Hi, Any recommendations for custom stamps? I'd like to stamp each piece that I make with my own design. Thanks, Mike
  13. Ok, I have a young man in my Scout group that is working on a leatherworking merit badge. He'd like to have a squirrel stamp. While I have all kinds of animal stamps for the Scouts, I do not have the Craftool squirrel stamp. I believe it is number 8411. Any of you lovely folks have one you'd be willing to sell me? Any help would be much appreciated.
  14. I have been teaching myself to tool for the past few years in my spare time and have been making some progress recently, however I am struggling with decorative swivel knife cuts! I can't get them to look smooth and flow with the design (see picture). I have used two different blades, the one in the picture is a small angled blade. I always make sure they are sharp and stropped before I used them. Any suggestions on which knife blade to use and techniques that help to make them look professional would be greatly appreciated! I feel like everytime I try to add them I ruin my designs! It is getting very frustrating! Thanks!
  15. I am doing a belt and I want to get the letters darker than my dye I am using. I have only stamped a couple of times all my stuff is plain (no tooling) minimal stamping. The customer wants the letters to be darker. The example they gave me is attached. I have practice using a dark brown dye but it just looks a little browner. I have also used a highlighter but only minimal results. Any suggestions or tips. This is really my first time doing this kind of stamping. Pat
  16. I found a stamp on etsy, and the actual stamp "blade" if you will is made out of brass. Does anyone have any experience with brass? I would suppose that it's much easier to mar the stamp if you were to pound it into something hard, but other than that I can't imagine much of a difference. I just want to know what yall think.
