  11. I'm looking to get a leather stitching device on a budget. I don't have huge production needs but I do need something that is reliable and not too complicated to use or to maintain. I also have some space limitations since I'm working out of my apartment. I like the idea of not having to use electricity but I will if it's the best option. With that iin mind I've been thinking that an old treadle machine for under $200 on CL might be the way to go. I'd like to know what people's experiences with this sort of machine might be when it comes to sewing a double thickness of somewhere between 6-12 oz leather. Are there some old makes and features that are recommendable and some to be avoided? Are there advantages or pitfalls? Leather stitching machines also seem like a fine option but the ones I have found online cost more than I can afford right now. Are the really old ones I see on CL and eBay adequate or are they show pieces? I'm also open to getting a modern sewing machine but the ones that seem would do the job are either out of my price range or my space constraints. Are there any inexpensive ones that might be adequate? I realize that this topic may have been addressed previously in these fora and I regret any redundancy. A cursory search did not reveal the information I need. I appreciate all replies and welcome information. Hole punch weary, Ximpe

  14. The title pretty much says it all. Looking for a deal on a Puritan 2 or 3 needle machine like the ones Redwing Shoes&Boots use.
  15. Adler 205-RM 25 SP 75 Cylinder Arm Heavy Duty Sewing Machine I am selling this machine to make room for a Cobra Class 4, and hopefully to find someone who can use its unusual optional function. This machine has a lever on the back, actuated by a foot lever, that when engaged, causes a shirring action. This makes the top feed and the bottom feed to pull different amounts of material, making the sewing of items like pucker toe mocassins much easier. I have no need of this function, so I would like to offer the machine up for sale so someone who does need this rare function can use it. The machine also functions normally, feeding top and bottom at the sae rate whenever you wish. The shirring function is only engaged when the shirring pedal is pressed. The machine is on a stand with a clutch motor and a speed reducer. 2 packets of needles are included, system 214x1 or DDx1, size 230 2 extra Bobbins are included One extra foot is included The brazed needle plate is being replaced with a new one from the manufacturer The bobbin case cover has been ordered as well. Bobbin winder is icluded Thread stand is included The cones of thread in the photos are not included, they were on the machine only to show the stitch quality Manuals included in PDF format: Adler 205 Operating Instructions, Adler 205 Mechanic's Instructions, Adler Class 205 Leaflets Parts Diagram also included as a hard copy. This is a very heavy machine, so palletizing and shipment via freight carrier is reccomended. I can also deliver it in southern California, for a fee, which will vary depending on your distance from Lake Elsinore/Wildomar. If you are very close, I can deliver for free. Pick up is always available for free. Steve at Cobra (Leather Machine Co.) is ordering the new parts it needs and fixing this up, so you know it is being done right! Asking price is $1650 Will consider offers. Respond to this post or PM me if you are interested.

  20. I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this here but I thought it should be said. A couple of days ago I was browsing the web, looking for more information on electric machines, (Cobra's to be specific), and came across a place in southern California called "Leather Machine Co. Ltd.." Let me first say this isn't an ad, nor do I work for this company. I spoke (via email) to a very nice gentleman by the name of Dave, about the Cobra Class 3 and 4 machines, and he seemed to be very knowledgeable about them. The point of this post is to say that this would be one of the first places I'd go if I was looking for a machine of that type. He was extremely helpful, but more over, he was also very kind. He really made me feel comfortable, and I thought that since the Leatherworker.net forum is the place that speaks volumes about sewing machines, and other related equipment, that it would be a good place to mention that there are good vendors out there. I'm certain there are other excellent people in the business also, but this is one that really stood out for me. Thanks for reading this, and I hope it helps someone someday. Matchlock
  21. Hi, I'm on the look out for a stitching machine. For making wallets, bags harnesses etc. I'm in the UK, southeast so I realise it might be difficult as most of you are in the US but I have to ask if anyone can help Franco
  22. Hello, I'm new here and need some help. I am looking for a stitcher for heavy duty sewing. I am sewing 2 layers of 10 - 11 iron sole leather and 2 layers of suede. The total thickness is right at 3/4 of an inch. We have been running 3 American straight needle machines but they are worn out and will not handle the work any longer. Tried a Union Lockstitch, too tempermental. Looking at a Landis 16 or a Campbell Lockstitch but not sure they will handle it either. Will the Adler 205 work? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  23. I just found this leather worker.net website. I don't use the computer much. I have several Barry King, Ron's Tool Company, and many other hand tools and machines for sale. All tools are in like new condition. Some have never been used and some have built one saddle and a few wallets and belts. I bought all these tools new. Shortly after purchase I got hurt and didn't use them anymore. I am unable to pursue this avenue so I need to liquidate these things. Feel free to email me with any questions (harleykdh@yahoo.com).
