  1. Hi! I am from the US and was wondering what some of the preferred brands of bonded nylon thread people use? I am making primarily journals, wallets, bags and the like. I have just set up my Techsew 4800, and it came with their own brand of thread, which seems to work well so far. Unfortunately, the color selection isn't the greatest. I'd really love to find a supplier that sells #69 or #92 in a wide array of colors.
  2. I'm getting in to covering old boxes in leather, but some of the boxes are very damaged so I need to find somewhere to buy wooden boxes. Does anyone know any good places to look?
  3. Hello! Are there any concho/hardware suppliers other than SX Industries and the typical retail sites (conchos.com, etc) that people use?
  4. At the urging of friends, family, and my wife I've decided that someday is today.... We've often talked about making some items and going on the festival circuit to sell things and see the country. I've been making things for folks for several years, learned a lot, and everyone seems to think I'm good at this stuff... So, I'm ordering a Cowboy CB4500, and then I'm stuck...rivet setter? rotary strap cutter? Any advice on machines to speed up production? I make holsters, jewelry, books, cosplay armor, sheaths, and other...thinking of doing bags and backpacks. Thanks in advance, any advice is appreciated.
  5. Good day everyone. Does anyone know a good supplier of waxed canvas. I am from South Africa so anywhere in the world will be fine. Juan
  6. Has anyone bought from a company called Likolly? I get Facebook ads for their products all the time. Some of their tools look nice but I can't find any information about them and I don't want to get scammed.
  7. Hello, I am new to this forum and very excited! I create custom browbands for horses, but due to Brexit, I've had to start looking for new suppliers again. The quality of the leather is very important to me, as well as the delivery timeframe. So I am wondering if any of you know where I can find empty channel, color or non color padded browbands, ready to use. I've alreday found http://www.horsefashionshop.de/ (do not like the leather quality as it seems very hard and painted) and https://www.kkressing.boutique/stirnriemen-rohlinge/ (very nice leather work and great quality, but not much on stock,...) . Any of you familiar with this and could help me out? Thank you so much!!!
  8. Post American (USA) veg tan & latigo suppliers here
  9. Hello Group! Anyone familiar with USA investment Casting supplier that can support making custom medallions and Conchos in Sterling Silver? Thank you in advance; Silverd
  10. Hi Everyone, I'll be relocating to New Zealand (from the US) within the next several months and thinking about selling most of my industrial machines here, before I leave, and starting a-fresh there. The thinking is both to save on overseas shipping expenses, and also with the 220/240 voltage there, to get new equipment that is already set up for that current. Does anyone have any information about suppliers in New Zealand--equipment, leather, tools? Thanks for any suggestions. Jynelle
  11. I've typically just bought from the shop in town. But at the rate I go through leather it's adding up and got me thinking that I should consider other options, everything else I use I tend to buy wholesale and this got me going down the rabbit hole of the internet trying to find a Canadian tannery or wholesale option. I've had no luck with this with the exception of a couple guys that tan leather out of deer hides or I might find a supplier that's little cheaper but then the shipping costs within Canada make it not worth it. Right now I'm using around 6-8oz latigo leather for strapping on backpacks and paying around $15CAD a sqf which seems to be the going rate in Canada for retail? Has anyone found a good online supplier, tannery or wholesale in Canada? Similar to Hide House or anything like that? There are quite a few options in the US but as other Canadians know it's the shipping and duties that kill that option and make it too pricey. Curious if anyone has found anything in Canada? Or if you're Canadian and buy from the US what's your experience like and who have you used?
  12. Looking for these Bench PIn Clamps. Anyone know of a source? Thanks
  13. I'm specifically looking for swivel snaps/hooks in antique brass like these, made of solid brass or another strong metal -not zinc alloy. Buckleguy has what I'm looking for however the price seems a bit high. I'm wondering if anyone knows of another source?
  14. Has anyone talked to Walsall Hardware lately ? I can not reach them by Phone . Thanks Clyde.
  15. looking for one or two sides of black english bridle 3/4 oz. in Hermann Oak or W & C. Is there any suppliers out there that can do that? I know Hermann Oak wont and thats who I had ordered 3 sides from a couple years ago but they need 5 sides in same color in order to make a sale? That breaks my heart. I have almost a full side of 5oz black Hermann Oak bridle if anyone out there wants to make a trade. 3 to 3.5 oz black is what im looking for. Wickett and Craig id be willing to try too
  16. hey Everyone, I was wondering would anyone know of any good european suppliers of hardware and dye? The UK apparently have a law about not sending oil dye in the post so i can't get it sent to me in ireland. Im wondering are there any other companies in europe that sell oil dye . Im looking to buy a 32 oz one. Tandy only have a very small one or a lot bigger one. IT was leProvo who said they would not send it to me btw ..... Any / all suggestions welcome ! thanks!
  17. Scammer is targeting suppliers. Claims to be Ian Atkinson and wants tool donations to promote companies in his videos. See video by Ian Atkinson explaining scammers attack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIE6WxX0ENY&feature=youtu.be Tom
  18. I would like to start a somewhat provocative discussion about Blanchard tools. I just had a phone call with a seller of mainly Blanchard tools who told me he replaced those he sold "with better tools". Aside the fact that Blanchard actually still makes leather tools which in itself is remarkable, I myself have found a lot of items much cheaper from other suppliers where I can hardly see a difference in comfort, sharpness or longevity. There are other makers out there similarly re-known like Amy Roke for pricking irons, or the newly surfaced design-winning S.Korean company Doldokki with a similar reputation. Nevertheless, I just bought a completely lovely pricking iron set for a fraction of the price from a completely unknown Chinese company that even looks like the old Amy Roke design. When I held it against the old design it was even identical, the only difference being 10g in tool weight. So what do you guys think? Is Blanchard overrated? Why would you go for it? Why not?
  19. is there a list of suppliers that are active on or support the forum, please? I would like to at least compare costs with other suppliers, so that I can direct my purchasing to those that actively share knowledge or otherwise support the Forum.# I cannot find a list. As an example, I was looking for JLS Leathers, as they/he had been suggested in a reply, but the google search took me to an unobtainable site error message. It would be great if such a list could be compiled and maintained, for those of us new to the forum. Thanks guys Harry
  20. hello again. I have a problem setting snaps. It seems they just don't want to set properly for me. I thought I would outsmart them and get some snaps from FastSnap Corp. being a "military grade" snap, but nooooooooo, same problem. Is it really a post problem? I mean, I really have to line up the leather and put a leather washer on the post so that the leather is even with the post once you push it through before you whack it? I like to use line 24 and have a setter from Gold Star. Any help appreciated.
  21. Hi Folks! First real post on here, so be kind My wife wants a small squeeze neck coin purse. I know they are cheap to buy but we plan to create a style of leather stuff for her that will all match so I need to make one. Can anyone please point me to a supplier of the spring mechanism used in the making of these small purses?
  22. Hey everyone. I'm new to this forum although Ive been referring to it for information for 2+ years. Thank you to everyone for all of the valuable information. I am now ready to purchase my first personal use leather, med/heavy duty, industrial sewing machine. Deciding which one to buy is harder than picking out a new car bc of all of the choices!! Ive narrowed down the machines for the most part. Im having a hard time finding a supplier that is within driving distance of 1 of my 2 homes, in Asheville NC and Atlanta GA. I have found a few but none that have cylinder arm machines... So these are the machines Im interested in: Juki LS-341N Cobra Class 26 Cowboy CB2500, CB3500 or CB227R I would like to sew leather and thick canvas material. I would like to use a variety sizes of threads if possible. Does anyone know of a good chart that helps understand thread sizes? So, I would like input on machines along any options on suppliers???? Thank you so much for your time!
  23. There is now a Tandy Store in Openshaw, east Manchester. Besides all their usual items, they also have courses, including a free drop - in course on Wednesday afternoons. I haven't been there yet as I've only just found out, but I intend to visit soon That part of Manchester had become rather run - down (I know, I used to live there) but a new shopping area has been established to try to revitalise the area, with quite a few retailers. So you will find the Tandy store under their website http://www.lime - sq.co.uk This website covers several crafts & hobbies, like ceramics, painting & metalwork, and also has a section on leatherwork courses throughout Britain http://www.craftcourses.com Can't seem to get the link to Lime Square to work, you'll have to Google it yourself, or go to 'Tandy Manchester'
  24. Hi, I'm looking to try my hand at a bit of leatherworking, and most of the supplies I've found on the internet so far are from America. This has made me curious about what suppliers there are for tools and leather in the UK (where I live), and where different leatherworkers on this side of the Atlantic like to source their stuff from. Also, is there a sort of British equivalent of Tandy whose tools are a decent (and not too pricey) choice for someone starting out? Thanks a lot!
  25. I'm a total leather newbie... And I'm new to the forums. So, hi! I worked with leather at a camp I used to go to as a child and I LOVED it. Now I'm running a small hand-made jewelry business, and I am considering incorporating leather into my creations. I would like to learn how to work with it again since I have so many fond memories as a child. My business is geared toward sustainable jewelry, and so I was wondering if there were any sustainable/organic/green/eco friendly/whatever leather suppliers that you guys know of. I've done a ton of research into this subject in the past few months and I've seen a lot of mixed information. Some say vegetable tanning is better, others say it's not, some say it depends on the individual tanner's process...Some say to buy from the USA/Europe and not China/India/Mexico because of the regulations... So, can you help me out a bit? I'm not experienced at all with this Thanks!
