  1. Using up years of scraps… ladies seem love these bags, so imma keep making em.
  2. Used an old pattern from my grandpas days at Tandy to build a gun belt for a customer. I wasn’t digging the color he chose, but once done it’s not bad. He was happy so I’m happy.
  3. About 15 years ago I was in Tandy Leather and decided to purchase Tandy’s leather edge roller. It was fine for the first couple of weeks of use. I found that if the wheel was left to sit in the die, it would get under the rubber and make a lump that never went away - even if you dried and cleaned it! I also experienced the nibs the roller got a bit wider as time went on and made it harder for the wheel to turn. I found a metal fabricator that would build one out stainless steel. It fits great and will possibly work better that the plastic original one
  4. I have a couple thousand craftaids, patterns, single and multiple pattern packs, and other related Tandy stuff. Most is from 50-70’s and some dates back to the 30’s. My grandfather worked for Tandy then and went on to teach leather craft at the college level at Texas A&I. If anyone’s interested I can post, but it’s many many many, photos. Is there a way to gather them all and upload or is that too much. Yes, I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to the Internet. Thanks.
  5. Asking $200. Please feel free to DM any questions or reasonable offers, thank you.
  6. Over 120+ packages of hardware (approx 7600 pieces) all from Tandy. Rings, snaps, rivets, buckles eyelets, etc. Easily over $1400 in value if bought from tandy (not including their outrageous shipping costs). Buy it all for $800 or pick and choose your pieces. Buyer to pay actual shipping costs from 08023 See the list below. I have a ton more pictures but have limited space here. Let me know if you want to see more. 7. It looks like Tandy Leather once again is trying to stay relevant in the leather crafting market. Although the Craftool Pro series of tools was a definite step up from the standard Craftool lineup, for the last two years, they have been trying to win back the serious hobbyist/small business as well as leather professionals alike by bringing in more professional grade tools. First they started with a new line of machines called TandyPro, which now also includes the Cobra series of sewing machines, as well as the Cowboy Outlaw. Just recently they add some Barry King tools as well as the TandyPro hand tools lineup made by a Chinese firm and are labeled Since: TandyPro® Hand Tools — Tandy Leather, Inc. Although made in China, these tools actually look like pro quality tools. I haven't been able to get down to my Tandy store to check them out in person to see if their quality matches their looks. Anyone here have any hands on experience with these tools? I would prefer a tool work exceptionally well, rather than look good, but if I can have a quality tool with looks to match, all that much better.
  8. I'm new to leatherworking. I recently purchased a 2-3oz half cowhide from Tandy but the leather arrived with a lot of cracks on the back. I had previously purchased a 5-6oz half cowhide that was stiff/dry but didn't have this cracking issue. Is this amount of cracking just in the nature of the lighter leather or should I message Tandy and file a complaint? If it is just in the nature of the product, what can I do to fix the cracking so that my projects aren't filled with these ugly lines? Here's a photo of the cracking:
  9. Used 2x and has extra cutting board and tipping tubes. Turn out professional-level belts and straps 1" to 2" (25 to 51 mm) wide and up to 15 oz. (6.0 mm) with one pull of the handle. This heavy-duty machine uses 4 tons(562 kg/cm) of compression force to cut four holes, buckle slot and point at either tip of a belt. The dual measurement gauge and rear fence stop allow for precise cutting of buckle holes and strap ends, resulting in a symmetrical, perfectly tipped belt strap every time. Billet end cutting die, buckle head cutting die, #3973-15 Tipping Cutting Board, two-part operating handle, replacement tubes and instructions included. Measures 11-3/4" x 16-1/2" x 29-1/2" (300 x 419 x 741 mm). B9E28638-586E-408E-BBB2-B6E6518688AA.webp
  10. Folks, I have been trying to get an answer from Tandy on their WPB FL store opening. They stopped responding to my inquiries and blocked me from messaging or commenting on their FB site. This without notice. I was very friendly and inquired about once every week. The puzzling part is they told me it was closed to state restrictions. The one in Tampa a Covid hotspot has been opened for over a month. All other businesses, restaurants, gyms and craft stores are open for well over a month now. I occasionally make a trip down to the store about 30 miles from where I live There are lights on in the place and a video running. Someone is going in there periodically and the store is fully stocked. Any ideas? Anyone with this same similar issue. I need a local supplier/partner.
  11. Just looking for any feedback on the machine. I know it is small with a 5" cutting area. Any input would be great. Thanks.
  12. Hey guys, Im looking to get some new geometric stamps and bevelers as the ones i acquired a while are of poor quality and im just not getting a defined stamp out of them now. Ideally looking for some geometric stamps that are a bit "different" as well. Are there any suggestions on where i could purchase stamps that will send to Australia or New Zealand? have had a look on Tandy Thanks
  13. I'd mentioned it the other day when I received the mailer, but in case you hadn't heard, I find it interesting that Tandy is now selling Cobra machines. Not affiliated in any way. Here is the mailer I received last week: This morning I just received an email from Tandy about it on their website, which is new, fyi: https://www.tandyleather.com/en/tandypro-cobra-machines.html Anyway, I really like the Cobra machines, so I found this an interesting twist in the direction Tandy is going.
  14. Here we have the Al Stohlman's Classic Patterns 1, 2, & 3. They are in good condition, a couple have minor staining on the binding. Other than that no issues. The Volume 1 does not have a copyright year, but Volume 2 & 3 have Copyright 1982 on the inside cover. Selling as a set for $80
  15. Round knives seem to be very expensive apart from these two which are affordable Does anyone have any experience of either or even the c.s osborne about double the price
  16. Just read on Leatherworkwer uk that guy has received a email from Tandy to say they are closing the shop in June and will only operate online sales after that
  17. I have about 60 different types of old and discontinued Midas and Tandy Craft stamps for sale. Can I post them here?
  18. I got an email today from Tandy announcing the rollout of their new pricing model. I am no fan of Tandy primarily due to the ridiculous pricing they have had and the requirement to buy an annual membership. I decided to check out their claims of lower prices and much to my amazement they have indeed reduced their prices to almost reasonable levels. Personally I still think the prices for the veg tan tooling leather they sell are too high considering the quality of what you get but they are a big improvement. The one item I wanted to check was the Eco-Flo Waterstain, they have indeed lowered the price substantially however it is still about $10 more for the 32 oz. size compared to the supplier I have been using. The same manufacturer Fenice of Italy without the Tandy label. The supplier (Campbell Randell) also sells the Fenice reducer which really helps with absorption into the leather. In any case it looks like Tandy might actually have gotten their act together at least partially, a good change for sure. Ed
  19. They discontinued the Tandy Leather Market Place Handbag Kit. I am looking for the pattern that came with this kit. It is not included in the patterns you can download for this pursed from the Tandy site. I f anyone has this, I'll be glad to pay.
  20. Has anybody seen Tandy's new clicker press? When I first heard it was coming and going for around $950 with business pricing, I was really excited. But after going out to see it last week, I'm really disappointed. I figured they just put their name on something that was already being made and we'd end up with one in the same style as the Weaver Mighty Wonder or Cowboy's manual press. But that's not what they did at all. As best I can tell, they must be having this thing made just for them. I was so disheartened I didn't even bother to take a picture, but they're rolling out into stores nationwide, so it should be on the website shortly. If you haven't seen it yet... it looks kind of like the Tippman and the Weaver merged into one. It looks like it's about the same size as the small Tippman and, like the Tippman, it has a fixed and relatively short opening height, but it's not pneumatic. It's got a lever like the Weaver, but it lacks the Weaver's ability to swing side to side (it's best feature in my opinion). If that's not bad enough, it actually has walls on either side (the whole thing looks like it's about 8 inches wide), which seriously limits what you could ever use it for. I'm shocked Tandy chose this route actually. If there's one thing I've learned hanging out in these forums, it's how thrifty and resourceful this crowd is. I don't think I could do anymore with this press than I could with my Harbor Freight Arbor Press, so why would I pay $900 more for it?
  21. I have seen pictures of other people's work where the border is airbrushed in black and fades towards the center. Looks great. I tried to do it on some of my things and they don't turn out so good. I have been using Tandy's water-based dyes. The dye tends to pool up and look really gray when it dries out. I know that I am putting on a little bit too much on but that's in an effort to make it look black rather than washed out gray. I am thinking that I should probably be using a paint rather than a dye. Does anyone have any recommendations about a good product to use for this purpose. I am pretty good at using the airbrush to fade the product in.
  22. Does anyone know if the lizard, ostrich, alligator remnants on sale on the online outlet store real or fake. They do also have a "genuine caiman flank" for sale, I just didn't know since the other remnants don't say genuine. Thanks
  23. Hi All, I had a surprise this evening in the form of an email saying Northampton branch is shutting at the end of the month and Manchester will be the main site in the UK. Unfortunately this is too far for me to use as often as I use Northampton , 2 1/2 hours and a frequent giant car park in the form of the M6 as against 45 minutes, so I will be looking at other suppliers, sadly probably abroad because of costs. It doesn't affect my main saddlery and harness business but mainly light leather goods belts etc (not leather). I now know how people feel with few local suppliers, I know I prefer to see a fitting to see it is what I want and the quality is right. I have used it and it's predecessor at the leather factory for over 25 years. Sorry mini rant over!!
  24. Does anyone have a recommendation to purchase #9 copper rivets? I am on the west coast and am buying through Tandy leather by the 50 pack (rivet and burr) but need to buy in quantity like by the pound. I have contacted a few places but they are no savings. Attached it the picture of the rivets we use, what type of rivet would you call this? Recommended suppliers? Also, we use Stimpson brand brass rolled rim grommets in #0 and #7. I buy on the Stimpson web store and contacted an a representative to buy the grommet machines and had some issues but his quoteon grommets was exactly the same as the webstore. Anyone dealt with quantity buying from Stimpson and getting their prices lower on grommets than the online price?
  25. Hi, Just wondered if anyone would be interested in Craftool Co. Sets 8136 - 1/2" Number Set (250g) 8135 - 3/4" Number Set (450g) 8134 1/4" Alphabet & Number Set (250g) 8130 1/2" Alphabet Set (500g) 8142 1/2" Wood Alphabet Set (500g) 8131 3/4" Alphabet Set (800g) 1" Zodiac Set (600g) 3/4" Celtic Alphabet Set (1kg) Not really sure on price if I'm honest, it seems to vary :/ I am in the UK, postage to the USA for example is £13 which is up to 2kg weight, that was just a quick look, might be cheaper elsewhere. I have weighed them and the figures are pretty much spot on, so a little room for packaging will need to be considered. I can add pictures if requested. Anyway let me know if anyone is interested and thanks for looking Janine
