Hello, i have a question about engraving chrome tanned leather. I live in Poland EU and our regulation about chrome tanned leather are quite restricted and they cannot have more than 3mg/kg chrome in leather. But anyway i am afraid about toxicity of this materials, so i wanna ask you, how do handle with this, what about ventilation and another security measures for that purpose. I heard about filters, that reduce all kind of toxicity about 99,9% and not only from leather, but also acrylic, PVC and that kind of stuff. I don't engrave much, maybe 9 hours a week. Regards PS. I work for a Bison rancher in Colorado and we have several 1/2 bison hides for sale. We currently have a dark chocolate brown and a medium tan. They are approximately 14 sq ft hides (give or take). All the tanning work is done, all you have to do is add your creative touch to turn them into something special! The leather is soft and flexible. Dear Members, I'am new on this forum. I work for leather industy from raw hide to finisned leather. Generally i produce cow hides. Someone gave me rabbit skins and i tanned them with gluteraldehayde and replacement syntans and fatliquored for sotfness. You can see this wet tanned rabbit fur photo. Have a nice day.

Hi everyone. This is my first post. I wanted to thank the community for all I read here about vinegar black. I am madly in love with using mordant instead of dye. I was able to turn out an impulse project in no time with my month old brew. It's a holster for my fabric scissors. I made the mistake of using the live edge of the hide for the rim (I liked the soft curve of it), but it's too floppy and soft for my liking, so I know next time to either line the rim or be sure to use a tougher inner part of the hide for that edge. It was instantly gratifying and deeply satisfying. I'm thankful for this forum and hope I can post and read more when I can get my head out of my work. Take care everyone! ~gemfox -
Hello. I have both vegetable and chrome tanned leather. What is the best way of embossing/de bossing both using the same dies/embosser. I have limited funds so can't afford two seperate machines.

ok so i was tinkering and i managed to get a somehat burnish on oil tanned leather if i put more time in i could probbly get it pretty nice. I want to start making bags and i really dont have the experience to know how bridle oil tanned or latigo acts when it comes to burnishing. I want to make bags but want to be able to get a good smooth edge. Any suggestions on types of leather i should use? My first bag will most likely be made of veg tan because thats what i have plenty of to make mistakes with as i learn.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and just starting to try and learn some of the trade. There is so much more to it than I had imagined. I am a retired Naval Officer and recreational alligator hunter. I have some skins getting tanned now. Just 4- and one is from a monster fat 12 footer. I am trying to learn how to do much of the basics myself but what I'm also looking for is to see if anyone is interested in bartering Tanned Alligator (wild Florida alligator legally caught and tagged by me) for some belts, wallets and purses for my immediate family. If bartering isn't advantagous to you than I would like to find someone that will make them for a fair price from the hides I supply. I also have several other friends that are always looking for something to do with their hides. Please let me know if anyone is interested.
