  1. Customer sent me his favorite wallet. Told, it's way too tired and asked me, if I can make copy for him. We both were surprised with the result. Here it is. For those, who hesitate, my work is on the right side. ;)
  2. So the title may be a little misleading.. This is actually my 5th wallet but this is the first time I’ve ever posted my work on the site. I got into the craft about 1 year ago and found this site shortly after and have been trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I absolutely love working with leather and I try to make things as often as possible. Which isn’t as often as I’d like seeing as how I’ve made roughly 5 wallets and 3 card Holders and a couple key chains since I started As for my wallet it is made out of 2oz lollipop red horween chromexcel that I scored when Rocky Mountain had there sale a while back. It’s stitched with carriage natural hemp thread from Tandy and edge painted with vernis burgundy color.. I used French style pricking irons from wuta 3.38mm or 8 spi. I’m really looking for some critiques to see where I can improve. I mean I can see the flaws but I’m curious how it looks to other makers ( my wife just says “ohh that’s pretty or nice” ) Sooo not much help in that department. Anyways I’m really excited to hear what you all have to say. Thanks for looking! Castle -
  3. Black lizard, orange Chevre Chagrin, and orange linen thread. Thought I'd try my hand at some exotics. Had such a difficult time getting the camera to focus on this leather for some reason. What do you think, should I do more? YinTx
  4. Here is my first attempt at a long wallet and Pyrography. It is 5oz outside/2oz inside veg tan with Fiebing's pro dye mohogany finished with Leather Balm with atom wax. I got new stuff for christmas and it seems like the perfect project/gift. I had a few issues all minor but any input for my next one will be appreciated. First, I used Fiebing's leather balm. It turned grey and congilled on the leather and i had to really power buff it to work it out 98%, see picture2 ,ideas? The other 2 were my first stich line to close to edge and trying to add a second stich line to an already assembled wallets. I love doing this stuff and amazed at what i have learned in under a dozen projects.
  5. My Brother-in-Law has been toting around the same store bought Tony Lama rodeo wallet for the last several years. It's to a place where it needed replacing with something a little more personal...Buttero leather inside & out. 3oz exterior and 1.5oz interior pockets. Laser engraved cover.
  6. Hello! I made these from veg tanned leather and hand painted the leaves. Used gunmetal stud. Great for carrying credit cards, ID, and cash. Perfect for daily use or as a gift! 8. So a friend asked me to make him the smallest possible wallet I could think of. There is a video of making it here
  9. Hi, I am looking for someone to recreate my boyfriends wallet that was his grandfathers. I have been told it was made by someone who used handmade stamps so it will be hard to recreate. Im just trying to find someone who can recreate it as close as possible! I can email pictures but it won’t let me upload them here
  10. Got this just about finished tonight. It just a needs a bit of cleanup on some edges and a nice coat of Resolene. I have more info about the process, featuring internal shots and pre-assembly pictures, on my website: <http://djole.altervista.org/djole/Publications/Leather/Walpurgis Wallet/WalpurgisWallet.htm>
  11. I call this wallet a Galway Trucker. Made it for a friend of mine who hosts a podcast radio show. Dyed with Tandy’s waterstain in Bordeaux (my favorite color to use, it’s so rich!). The liner is a piece of Blackwatch tartan wool. All artwork is laser engraved. I think it came out sweet! 4/5 ounce veg tan all around. A bit beefy, but I’d like it to last a lifetime.
  12. I am beginner, just starting my hobby craft on leather, got few basic tools and materials including a sheet of leather. There are few things I want to know first 1. leather sheet looks bit old. Surface doesn’t have its original finish it is little dull. How to restore it? Needs to be treated before cut it or after. What kind of tools and materials can be used?
  13. Just finished this vertical wallet with my 10yr old son. This is not only his first leather wallet it's also his first handmade wallet and he helped in the build he did the stamping of his initials and the initials of his favorite train. The leather is Diego Veg Tan Glazed Maduro I just got in from SLC I had it split down to 3-4oz and asked for split and used a piece of the split for the interior.
  14. Hi all, I've been enjoying the forum and have slowly been assembling a hobby leather studio in my basement. I finally got around to making a few items, instead of just messing around. Here are some pictures. I'd appreciate any tips or critique I could use to improve future projects. My first project was a simple card wallet. I used scrap veg tan from one of those $20, 2 pound scrap bags. Edges are glued, sanded, wet burnished, and sealed with beeswax. Finish was simply some neatsfoot, and Tandy's carnauba finish wax. It has about a month of use on it at this point and the outside is darkening nicely. I punched the stitch holes from the inside out without a proper backing pad, so I'm not real happy with the stitching appearance on the outside. Also, I used bonded machine thread to do the saddle stitch, and it has gone somewhat fuzzy on the outside. Any way to prevent the fraying? My 2nd project is a holster for a rifle bolt. The leather is cheap veg tan, I bought off Amazon. The interior is fully lined with inexpensive glazed black pigskin. The outside was dyed with Fiebing's Pro Dye in Saddle Tan, with a carnauba wax finish coat. The edges were sanded, wet burnished, dyed with black industrial sharpie, burnished, beeswaxed, and polished with a cloth. The machine stitching was done on my modified Singer 95, with 138 bonded nylon, and the hand stitching was done with Tandy's braided waxed thread. I'm very happy with how things turned out, especially the saddle stitching. I had done some test pieces to set the tension on my machine, and thought I had it nailed. A little disappointed when I flipped the project over and saw that it needed more adjustment. Next time, I will probably use a black bobbin thread, because I don't think the interior stitching really adds any interest. On future leather cases like the holster, I'm interested in using an all leather arrangement for closure. Some sort of strap and loop setup. Does anyone have some examples of methods of doing this without any metal hardware?
  15. Hi everybody, I'm not sure where to put this. So i just post it here. I did an Ultra slim wallet (two Card Slots and a place for paper cash) and made a Video while making it. The language is german but the Pictures should be self explanatory. So Maybe somebody likes it. Here is the link: I'll attach a pic for those of you, who dont want to watch the vid
  16. This is my first attempt at working with leather. I've taken no classes; I'm kind-of learning as I go. The mistakes are many, the imperfections are obvious, & the room for improvement is vast. I know this much...but nonetheless, it didn't turn out completely terrible..did it? I made this checkbook cover for my 78 year old Vietnam veteran father. I told him I wasn't entirely happy with it, but he insisted the imperfections are what makes it perfect in his eyes. I'm aware not everyone will be as kind as him (after all, he is partial), but I want to get better at the craft. With that being said, what am I doing wrong with my beveling? The Hi-Lite I applied to outline the crossed cannons just didn't turn out right. The beveling tool I used is B197. Do I need to use a different tool? Or am I just doing it wrong? Thanks for taking a look!
  17. This is a six card holder wallet with four cash/extra card pockets, The back is Horween horse butt and the interior is French Calf hide from Springfield Leather. The interior is all the same leather and the same color just different light. The interior is machine stitched and the perimeter is hand stitched with white 277 twisted polyester thread. Sorry about the cut off picture.
  18. This is my current project-- a wallet with a landscape. The tooling on the outside piece is done, and the stitching holes made (3mm) with my nice JapanGoods chisel set. I made the left side deliberately too long, so that when I get it all stitched up, I can trim that edge to the correct size. I like the trees here -- the undercut beveller really made the silhouette pop. Right now I'm working on the interior pockets. More to come as it is completed.
  19. Hi, I am trying to make a zip around wallet. I have figured out putting in the zip using a wooden mold, but I don't know how to do the edge stitching around the zip, so that I catch in both the outer leather case and the internal pieces and get it to look neat. In the photos you can see I have done the white stitching on the blue outer case (this is a practice piece) but I can't get the stitches to catch the inside pieces. Grateful for any ideas.
  20. Pink Floyd themed wallet I made as a commission. The original drawing I found on google. Details: -2 mm veg tan for exterior, dyed with ROC leather dye, violet color -Angelus paints for the tooling -1 mm veg tan for interior -Yellow Wuta thread, 0.45 at 3 mm spacing
