  1. Not sure how "I" messed up this machine. Yes it was operator error. If you sew a straight line at same speed it sews wonderful, speed up or slow down and the stitch length begins to shorten, may or may not come back to normal. If you stop at a corner and let needle go to bottom and start up 1/4 inch then lift presser foot and turn project the next stitch will be very long followed by 2 or 3 normal then it will start to shorten again. Current needle is 25/200 with bonded nylon 277 thread. Have tried dozens of thread needle combos, learned a lot, didn't fix problem. I have watched numerous videos of threading 441 type machines. There are several different opinions about this topic. I have tried them all. Some seem to give more thread tension than is necessary. None fix my problem. Also have spent hours with thread tension. It is not the problem. I also found some old style, steel Juki type bobbins. Not the problem. I have tried a bunch of pressure settings for the presser foot. Some with heavy marks in project, not the problem. Currently have the smooth plate and needle guide that Ferdco uses. That is not the problem. Gets worse with very thick (max thickness) or in a couple layers of soft chap leather 4/5 oz each I have checked belt tension, not slipping. Machine is well oiled and bobbin shuttle etc. are clean and lubed. I have spent hours with the UWE Grosse videos on timing. As stated, if you start of in a straight line it sews like a dream. Very nice top and bottom thread. This project is 10/12 oz veg tan and 5 oz chap; 277 bonded nylon, 25/200 needle
  2. This post I have done to assist buyers of the narrow needle plate sets we developed here in Australia for the Cowboy CB4500, Cowboy CB3500, and most other 441 clone machines including the Techsew 5100, and Cobra Class 4. Many of these machine owners have now purchased these sets and couple have reported back some rubbing issues when changing over to the new plate. In most cases their machines are set up well but occasionally some machines over time get a little out of ideal alignment with how either the needle centres into the fee dog or the feed dog locates into the needle plate. These instructions should help for any needle plate feed dog relationship alignment issues on these machines, whether it is for the standard needle plate feed dog set or our Narrow needle plate combination set. For those of you that have not seen the narrow needle plate set in use and what they can do you can see some here in this video link - https://youtu.be/a83lCJe4JKo or this one - https://youtu.be/wdloxyjeB1w You can see more on these plates in this earlier post I made here - The next video I will do is to show the drop down guide for these machines and how easily they can be installed and why they can be a better choice. Follow my Channel if you want to catch more like it.
  3. Hi. I just picked up a nearly new Cobra Class 4 that has only this one right presser foot. I am looking for any unused from your premium package or a source for various types of feet. I am also looking for the edge guide or suggestions for a drop down. Thanks
  4. Hi All, I have a two year old Techsew 441 that periodically will make a cluncking noise, skip a stitch then break off the needle. Typically this is when sewing thick leather, 10oz or so but has also done it on lesser material. I understand it has to do with how the needle path into the hook zone is influenced by the material but the problem appears to be getting worse not better. A recent project resulted in 8 or 10 broken needles and remaking of several components. Ive checked the timing using the Uwe system and it's spot on. I have renewed the hook assembly but have not made any lateral adjustmentso or shimming. Is anyone familiar with this behavior and its causality? Silverd
  5. For all those who have asked me for the Juki TSC 441 adjustment manual and partlist. I have just managed to recover these manuals from a broken down PC and uploaded them here. Free for download for our members personal use. Enjoy Tor TSN-421&TSC-441EM00_e.pdf ai0cjh00.pdf
  6. This is not my idea, I saw this specific implementation on Donna Nobilo's machine. It is very similar to the way flatbed tables attach to Pearson No.6 machines, and similar to the way flatbeds attach to 29k patchers. Donna runs Ethos Leather in New Zealand and is a member on these forums. It is so much better than the (IMO ridiculous) way the tables come from the Chinese factories with four bolts at the back of the flatbed to attach it to the machine table I don't know why they don't ship the tables built like this already. It takes less than a minute to attach, and requires only two bolts. It's pretty stable with just one but it is slightly more secure with two. You need two M8 machine screws. I'm using cap head allen screws and an M5 allen key. If you used an M8 wing screw that would make the lower attachment easier, I just don't happen to have one. The m8 screws don't appear to be a perfect match for the threads tapped into the machine head, but they do work. I don't know what the thread standard in the holes in the machine is, but at least some of the other bolts in 441s are metric as well. The table attaches using brackets made of bent aluminium strip. This stuff is 50mm wide and is a standard stock item at big box hardware stores. The rear strap of the bracket sits across the rectangular cutout in the arm The front strap of the bracket wraps under the shuttle race Add the machine screws and you're done This cost me less than $10 to do, and about half an hour to make. The only vaguely difficult bit was measuring up the bends. Here's a video showing how easily it goes on and off. https://youtu.be/u8zhPB5c5iA
  7. have a new Cowboy 3200. Love it. why is it so hard to find walking feet for 441 clones? is there a singer style equivalent, other equivalents?
  8. Does anyone know the proper adjustment for the Feed Adjustment Link eccentric screw in a 441 Clone? It's not in the enginner manual. I am having trouble with the reverse stitch matching up to the previouys stitch holes. Sometimes it reverses to every other stitch, sometimes the first reverse stitch is off, but the stich width is spot on if I manually position it. Sometimes the stitch is off by 1 mm on every one. Took some photos to show what adjustment point I am talking about. The Front View pic shows the screw under the stitch length lever to loosen the eccentric screw shown in the side view pic. I have tried multiple settings but to no avail. It's my understanding that if I hit the correct setting, any stitch made in forward mode can be reversed into previous stitches. I have been able to pull this off with 11mm stitches but not 6mm. Also, are there other areas needing readjustment after messing with this part of the 441? Seems like it's throwing off the walking foot hieght.
  9. I just picked up my very first sewing machine. I've been hand stitching everything (satchels, bags, wallets, belts, cases, etc.) for the last 2 years and decided it was time to step up. I bought from a local dealer - Bogle-Greenwell. I was able to do some test runs with it on some belt scraps. Its stitching well, but I have noticed a couple of things... 1) The feed dogs (on bottom) are leaving teeth marks on the rear of my material 2) The presser feet (on top) are also leaving marks (smoother than whats's happening on the bottom, but marks none the less) 3) The stitching on the bottom side is clean - there are no loops, but it doesn't look nearly as nice as the top. I apologize if the vocabulary is a little off - I'm not yet up to speed on all the sewing maching terminology yet... But I'll get there. If any of your pros could point me in a good direction to fixing these issues I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if you can refer me to any good reference materials - books, videos, etc. - on how to use this machine that would help too. Honestly, while I figured out how to thread the needle, I don't even understand how to wind the bobbin or replace it yet. So... Your help is definitely needed. Thanks.
  10. Can anyone tell me what thread standard is used throughout the Cowboy 4500? There are various tapped holes on the machine that are neither M6 nor 1/4" and it's driving me nuts trying to figure out what sort of machine screw I need for them. Thanks.
