Found 36 results

  1. Would like to buy a copy of "Making Harness. A Step by Step Guide" (2005) by Lewis Martin and Daniel Preston. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Free vintage pattern book: Le Cuir. Compositions Decoratives – author Jehan Raymond (published in 1908) pattern book has some wonderful and unique Art Nouveau designs for leather work - pocket cases and wallets, cigarette boxes, bindings, calendars, music portfolios etc. The descriptions are written in French. This is a PDF (240MB) on Google drive: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Lc95mJPz-dwGupVhW2XmYGis4D5fcvpz A few of us are fortunate enough to own a hard copy of this treasure, I searched for 2 years to find my mine (and paid dearly for it). Now, because of its age; it was added to Public Domain in 2016. *This book is very rare, some copies are preserved and archived in some museums - MET. I hope you find these awesome patterns and illustrations useful. Big thanks to Letter T for condensing the PDF, Nuttish, Chirsash, and Buttermutt07 for testing the link on multiple platforms. P.S. Source files are in the Library of Congress - National Archives site. Enjoy, Deb
  3. Does anyone have Cowboys and The Trappings of the Old West book if so could you take a couple photos specificity of the chaps, because I'm considering buying it if it's not too much trouble.
  4. are they actually any books at talk about leather chap making
  5. G'day everyone, been a while, thought I would show you a custom book I finish for a customer, Leather used for Cover, Gold Tooled using tools that are around 120 years old.
  6. Not sure if this topic is in the right place. What I would like to do is to get a moderator to 'Pin It' in the most suitable section in the Forums. When I read posts about almost any subject on here, I seem to spend ages trying to hunt down the easily obtainable equivalents to those mentioned in the post. Even if items are obtainable they tend to be very expensive if UK stocked and dispatched and generally out of the question if sent from the States. There are one or two examples of the reverse problem, I'm thinking of Dixon Tools and Tiger thread which you who live in USA find difficulties with. So what I am hoping for are lists of equivalents, suppliers posting with the items they supply at normal UK post rates and so on. So who wants to start? Claire
  7. Found this on an information dive and wanted to share. Lots of useful info on oils and greases to use. The what, why, how, and how much. The Application of Oils and Grease to Leather by J R Blockey 1919 - here
  8. Please contact me or respond.
  9. Bob Park - Western Floral Designs Book? I know this book exists, any advice on how to get it. Have tried amazon and and hidepounder but no success. Cheers, Jason in Canada
  10. I am looking to get a book cover made. It should be fairly simple. All I need is a logo in the middle and 2 holes punched on the left side. I will attach an image to make it more clear. Im no picky about where the holes are as long as they are in the first 1/2 in of the left side. I figure you will know where the safest point to make them. I also need a back cover of the same size, but only with the holes. You can email me at greenleaf31013 at gmail dot com. You will have to fix the at and the dot. I apparently cant attach pictures... It is a simple logo. it is a circle with a P in the middle with a few extra lines. I will email you the mock up. Thank you for your time!
  11. Has anyone bought this book? https://fashionary.org/products/bag-design# It seems pricey, but is it worth it? I have the 1960 W C Double book on Handbag construction already, but it is factory oriented (loads of good stuff in there) but he was head of Leathergoods at Cordwainers Technical College in 1950s / 1960s when it was very trade focussed. So I am looking for something a wee bit more user friendly. Is there a forum where we can post reviews of Books, Magazines, Videos? Thanks for feedback Harry
  12. I am currently in process of making a leather bound book for the first time. So far so good. I almost got the cover done, the text block stitchedis together and the headbands are done. Hope to have it finished by the middle of next week. I will have to add more pics including the text block but here is the cover.
  13. I am wanting to get some info. I am making a leather bound book for a Christmas present and am not to sure on leather thickness. I am wanting to tool the cover as well as fold edges to the interior. My question is how thin can I go before their is not much left for tooling and not leave to much for the fold over as I don't have a skiver( I am fine skiving a bit with what I do have to get it to lay right)
  14. Sketch book cover from Veg tan, hand dyed and stitched. I had an issue with the left inside piece, it had shrunk enough after dying that it no longer fitted, so a patch was made and attached. There is a little residual wax on the surface that is visible in some of the pics.
  15. The book is in like new condition. Some shelf wear on the dust jacket. $95+$5 shipping for media rate. Payment will only be accepted through Paypal. Will ship once payment has been received. US shipping only.
  16. Hi Gang, Do you have a favorite leatherworking book? Is there a master guide that people look for? I bought a few from Tandy, the only store in my area. Their books feel limited to me. Is there a particular master guide that people use? I have a few of the Stohlman books, but was wondering what else out there was good? Thanks! -D
  17. Brand New Scharffix 2000 Leather Paring Device For Sale. Sensible Offers Considered Long story short, UPS delivered this late and I had to forfeit the commission for which it was purchased. Outside of this project, I do not have a use for this tool. Unfortunately, the company I bought it from want to charge me $80 to return the product, and so before doing so, I thought I would offer it for sale here. This tool has never been used, and comes in its original box, with instructions, spare blades, and adjustment wrench. Scharffix tools are made in Germany and as such are of very high quality. I was very impressed with how well made it is! For those of you who aren't familiar with this tool, Schmedt, the makers of the tool, have a video here. Skip to 1.26 to see this tool in action. I'm understandably looking to recoup as much as my original expenditure as possible and will consider sensible offers. Please let me know if you would like any further details or images. Nick
  18. I have a library used copy of Valarie Michael Leather craft book. It covers some great info on making cases. I am looking for 10.00 plus shipping. Let me know if you are interesting by messaging me here.
  19. Version 3 of my original. I've improved the way the strap loop slides. I'm also really happy with the way the chrome hardware and white stitching compliments the brown leather. A custom version of my bookstrap, made with a longer, wider strap and larger panel in order to accomodate a large art portfolio. A more minimal version. A more modern version I made one night while having beers with a friend. Inspired by the above version. (I grew quite attached to this one. The worst part about making such things is that I want to keep all of them. It has since been sold... I might make another one.)

  21. Another thread led me to a thought, why did good leather instruction and pattern books begin and end with Al Stohlman? Am I right, or just not looking in the right place? My favourites are Al Stohlmans Handbook of Stitching, Cases 1, 2, and 3 and his Leathercraft Tools book. What are your favourites? While we are on the subject of leather 'knowledge', I do understand that here on this board is by far the best instruction if you can find and collate it. BW Claire
  22. Has anyone seen this book and know where I can get a copy? Amazon has none. http://www.amazon.com/Ann-Stohlman-Personal-Patterns-Portfolio/dp/B000M1BJ3E/ref=sr_1_22?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1389311011&sr=1-22&keywords=al+stohlman
  23. My first time working on a book cover. I am quite happy with the way it turned out.
