I have a fully functional clutch motor that I received when I bought a used Consew 206RB. The original owner replaced it with a servo and speed reducer. I have no need for it, so if anyone is interested, you can have it for free - just pay UPS Ground shipping from Atlanta, GA. Appears to weigh around 30-35 lbs. I tested it and everything worked. Hi Everyone So I purchased a Typical DC 20665 heavy duty machine yesterday. The machine really performs great and it is stitching perfectly. The only thing I need some help on is in regards to the motor. At the dealer they had the machine setup with a clutch motor (model: DOL12L, 1/2 HP 4P) which works well. I do actually want to servo motor for the control and energy saving as electricity in South Africa is quite expensive. They then installed a servo motor which I am not sure of the brand but on the label it said 300W - 700W if I remember correctly. With the servo motor the machine would start the first stitch through the really thick layers of leather, so they had to hand crank the first stitch. Due to this they recommended I keep the clutch motor. I unfortunately did not have the time or the patience to stand there and have a long conversation about the whole motor issue so I decided to go the the clutch motor. Now I am thinking that maybe they could have fitted a more powerful servo motor, but I have no idea what the difference is between all the servo motors. Obviously I can call them tomorrow and ask to change the motor for a servo, but what do I actually ask for? Is there a wattage rating or something that I need to look out for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I've bought Jack Jk-561A-1 Servo Motor and I'm really happy with it. But there is a nice modification to make, good for a newbies like me, to make the servo motor even more predictive. I've nowhere found similar idea, so I've decided to share. I made this mod with the clutch motor that was previously installed on my machine, and it was running quite good. But as the leather does not like mistakes... I've got a servo. Returning to the point, here are photos of the modification. The cost of it is about $2. Only downsides I've spotted by now are: first - You can not "back" the treadle (that makes the lever on the motor controller go up. And for me this is not a problem), second - when you lift the treadle and then it drops down, it can pull the controller and sew a stitch (changing the lever spring should fix it). The main thing, the mod does is that for the 17mm movement of the controller lever You need to push the treadle by 35mm. Even with motor set to the highest speed there is no problem for a newbie to control the speed from slow to full. ( I hope it's all clear, as English is not my native language )
