  1. Hello, looking to have a rifle scope cover remade. Id like to have the leather matched as close as possible to a sling i just had remade which is a darker brown. I am able to source a matching piece of leather from the company that created the sling if need be. Pictures And specifications can be sent via email to make it easier. Its basically two cups that have a depth of 3.2cm, 3.5cm inner diameter, 4cm outer diameter. Connected by a piece of leather that is roughly 27.5cm long cup to cup. Contact Info (actual email protected for spam) dried_cutlass.01@icloud.com
  2. A friend of mine is asking if I could cover a side plate for his son's Ducati Scrambler. The original covers are aluminum and can be attached/detached by a tab and grommets, and secured by an allen screw in the middle. The design is convex, thankfully, but I'm wondering what's the best way to attack this. I'm a holster guy, so I need some guidance on type of leather and how to bond or secure it to the plates. He's also wanting it in a russet brown finish, but I'm guessing I'll use something already tanned to that finish. The photo isn't the actual plate, but it's the same size/shape - in aluminum. Thanks in advance. (Always fun to get out of the comfort zone!)
  3. Hi folks, This is my first time to upload a video. Recently, I got into baseball stitches. But it is sometimes hard to have each edges held tightly together. I think X-stitch would be better, or maybe my skill is just not good enough. X-P Making video I love recording my leather works. Thank you for watching!
  4. Last month we bought a hatchet to take down a tree in the back yard. Between the two of us, it only took about half an hour, with us alternating taking swings and watching our son splash in his pool. For being little, this is a really nice hatchet. (I'm not surprised; Fiskar's is a great brand; I've had a pair of their scissors since elementary school and they still work great.) Anyway, Fiskar's is usually really good about putting these nice hard plastic covers with toggle locks on their bigger axes, but for this one they just put on a cheap, softer plastic cover that feels like it will probably crack and be ruined after a while. This is a good tool that deserves better. So I made a proper leather cover for it, dyed it, carved and painted the leaf decoration, put a snap on to keep it shut, and tied it all together with two-loop Spanish edge lacing. For those who want to know, I used veggie tanned leather (I think 7-8oz.) from SLC, Eco-Flow Antique Gel (it's either Dark Brown or Briar Brown - sorry, it was a month ago and I can't remember for sure), Angelus paint for the leaf, and some finished lace I got from the dreaded Hobby Lobby. I probably got the snap from SLC. The pictures aren't great but my phone only takes selfies anymore so I make due.
  5. Sketch book cover from Veg tan, hand dyed and stitched. I had an issue with the left inside piece, it had shrunk enough after dying that it no longer fitted, so a patch was made and attached. There is a little residual wax on the surface that is visible in some of the pics.
  6. This is a journal cover I made as a gift for my sisters birthday. I used common over the counter acrylic paint from walmart (because that is what I had on hand at the time). Sealed with Satin Sheen, and the image seems to be holding up well. Interested to see what it will look like as it ages. The two issues I have with this one is the pen holder! I realized I just hate the design and am going to do something different on the next one. Also, a tooth on my stitching fork bent, which caused some a funky stitching line on the final product. Going to look for some better quality tools here shortly. Thanks for looking.
  7. From the album: My Creations

Simple tooled border and hand sewn contrasting cartridge loops. Brass hardware goes well with he light brown and mahogany antiqued leather.
  8. He'll fellow leather workers. I've been pottering with leather for a couple of years and have taught myself everything I get wrong! The wonders of you tube! Below is a selection of things I've done.
  9. I'm not sure this would be "showing off" after seeing much of the things produced by people in this forum, but here's my latest completed project. My daughters are big Harry Potter fans and I wanted to make them something out of leather for Christmas, as I've just gotten into this and enjoy it immensely. I came across the Midori Traveler's Notebook, which is nothing more than a piece of leather with a couple of elastic cords holding in small paper notebooks and keeping it closed. That led me to other notebook covers people had made and I thought that would make for a nice Christmas present, so I decided to make them Harry Potter themed notebook covers. I ordered a couple of Harry Potter sew-on patches (1 for Gryffindor and 1 for Ravenclaw...they had this "sorting hat" app that tests you and sorts you into your school houses...don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about), and I intended to adhere these patches to the covers. However, once I was done with the notebook covers, I just couldn't do it. They can use these things for almost forever and I didn't want some Harry Potter patch messing up the front. So, we bought a couple of Harry Potter wand pens to go with them and called it good. They're made with thin veg tan leather, stained and lined with suede.
  10. Haven't posted in a while. Day job getting in my way. ha. Anyway, a journal cover for a customer birthday gift. 4oz veg and pig skin liner. Machine stitched. Nothing too fancy. Just trying to keep mistakes to a minimum. Pics didn't turn out too great. Some blue reflections from somewhere. Comments welcome. Thanks, Eddie
  11. Hello All, I am a web designer for a friend, TJ, who enjoys creating custom leather carvings. His gift to me, a laptop cover with a Les Paul, is one of his works that I consider to be his absolute best. His work expands beyond just laptop covers. He has created key chains, iPhone cases, purses, leather face clocks, and much much more (even moccasins!). His website, www.customleathercarvings.com, contains a photo gallery of his work and a page dedicated to explaining why he continues creating his leather carvings. He absolutely loves being asked questions! If you have some spare time and questions, please fill out the form located on the photo gallery page. Thank you for your time and support. Michael
  12. First thing I have ever completely stitched on the machine. Still need to replace the bobbin spring to deal with thread tension issues, and kind of messed up the plastic carbon copy cover, but for my daily use I think it will be functional. Debating putting edge coating. Open to suggestions for improvement as always YinTx
  13. Anybody have any sketchbook or journal patterns to share? Just courious how everyone is doing them. I can't find any good patterns to go with and I'm looking for some help! Please share if you have any! Thanks!
  14. So this is my first flip case for a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (what a long name -.-), It closes with two magnets, got some room for three cards and some bills and is decorated with a heating iron. As the customer likes Japan a lot, the design was set quite fast. Oh well, and besides my first flip-case with my first burned decoration it´s the first time I used some kind of a stiffener (some plastic boards with like 0,3mm) and I sort of like it... but i don´t know, whether it´s similar to the stiffener i.e. Tandy sells. It´s just crappy if you gotta stitch through it or if you have to punch some holes (like for the camera) through it as you won´t get that sort of a nice and clean edge on it. So I hope you like it and if you got some critiques or ideas, I´d be very interested to hear them
  15. Finished up a few items. Finally getting time to post.
  16. Here is the Bible cover that my son and I made for his new Bible. He is graduating high school and about to head off to college and join our other son at Oklahoma Christian in Edmond, OK. They are both studying ministry. Proud of my boys for following in their dad's footsteps!
  17. My first time working on a book cover. I am quite happy with the way it turned out.
  18. This is a composition notebook cover I made for myself to keep track of my fitness progress and workouts.
  19. I dunno how much bragging to do on this but I'm pleased with it regardless. I learned a few things - most notably be a little over on all measurements. I had this measured to meet along the bottom of the butt - it ended up actually on the sides. But it actually looks alright that way. I'm not sure if it was shrinkage or what since I had checked the fit before I tooled on it. I used the actual rifle butt cap plus some cork I cut to shape as a mold and wet molded the cap. Unfortunately i was unable to get the top and bottom radiuses to mold properly. I ended up cutting them and using a leather "patch" to close it at top and botton. I did measure the cartridge loops accurately which pleased me no end and it ensured the bullets are held tightly. I had created a previous version that was just a "saddle". It slipped after a while from the taper of the rifle butt. This one came about from a couple of conversation about the cowboy shooting "purists" sticking their nose up at recoil pads, and another on using tacks and rivets looking "tacky". So - I wanted to make one with a "cap" to keep the sleeve in place and I used rivets to hold things in place. I made it a little deeper so it would hold a piece of gel as a recoil pad. Comments and critique appreciated! From left to right: butt cap, recoil pad, sleeve, cartridge strip The finished product. I could use suggestions on a tidier and better looking way to tie the lacing.
  20. Hi guys! I'm a noob in leatherworking and I want to find out how to harden/wrinkle leather. I've attached a photo of a journal i've bought and I was wondering how can I make leather stay in one place and stay hard like the ornament's hair/scarf on the cover of my journal (the photo I attached). Tx in advance!
