  1. Selling my Weaver rotary punch and EZ edger to make some room in my new shop. Both work great. The rotary punch is still on the first side of the novolene anvil. Comes with 6 different sized hole punches and 1 oblong punch. Asking $1100 for the hole punch (pick up only). The EZ edger blades have yet to be rotated, so there is a ton of life left in them. $800 for the EZ edger (buyer pays shipping). Im am located in Martinez California. Feel free to message me with any questions. Thanks! Click to choose files
  2. Hello all! So I had an incident with my French edge skiving tool the other day.. I recently moved up to using top grade hides and the level of toughness compared to the Tandy special is amazing! But... That being said my edge tool is no longer refined enough to cut the high end hides and I ended up slipping off the leather and getting a nasty gash on my finger. I like to keep my tools sharp and up too this point I thought it was sharp enough. I strop the bottom edge and use Dremel buffer wheel with green compound to get to the hard to reach upper edge. Upon closer inspection I realized the top bevel isn't even and I need to do some significant material removal to true up the edge. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can't modify the bevel without ruining the tool? Any sharpening and honing tips would very much be appreciated! Thanks and God bless!
  3. Hey all - I know this question gets asked all the time, so my apologies in advance if anyone is bored of answering people about how to burnish edges. I've tried to read a bunch and still found myself a bit stuck. I work with thick harness-style leathers and I'd like to get nice rounded burnished edges on them. I've never had great luck with burnishing by hand, so I thought I'd try a motorized burnisher. I bought this cocobolo burnisher: http://proedgeburnishers.com/index.html and put it on a 1/2hp motor from harbor freight that seemed to be commonly recommended https://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-buffer-61557.html I took ~10oz leather, went over the edges with a #2 (I think) edge beveler - https://photos.app.goo.gl/uAs6X5AHpAomKu9y8 and then, trying a combination of different saddle soaps on the burnisher, tried to round the edges, but I ended up with a much more visible, lumpy, not smooth, not even especially round edge - https://photos.app.goo.gl/qs1qacQ1Wz6ptCsb8 I'm not happy with that edge. I've read a bunch about how to burnish and am still a little stumped. Reading over the pro-edge burnisher FAQ, I'm realizing that perhaps I did the wrong thing by putting the wax on the burnisher first rather than on the leather. I will try that next. Anyone have other suggestions of how to get a better edge? A related question is - is there some trick I'm missing to using an edge beveler? The best approach I've found for myself is to put a metal ruler over the piece I'm working on, close the edge, and try to use that as a guide for the beveler. Otherwise I find myself making waving lines that I can see in the finished product, or occasionally veering off entirely and taking a nasty bite out of the leather. Thanks, David
  4. Full set straight shanked edgers only the size 0 is used these are old tools got them from a 96 year old saddle maker. The size 1-4 have only had the protective coating removed. $150 shipped CONUS PayPal g&s https://www.csosborneleathertools.com/product_detail.php?p_id=173 New they are $40 apiece. Feel free to make an offer won’t break up set
  5. I don't know if this is an original idea but I haven't seen it anywhere yet so ...here ya go!!! I work with paracord quite a bit and had some laying around to use. Paracord takes stropping compound like a champ!!! 275 cord (the smaller cord) works great for my #0 edger while the 550 cord works great for my #2 edger. When your done drop them like they hot!!! Like all strops, pull tight strop light. the 550 has some give in it so it will conform to the shape of edgers smaller than #2. There many different diameter paracords, the choice is yours!!!!! Update I notices weaver came out with a video in September of this year with a similar idea....I have been using this method for about 2 years...just sayin
  6. I purchased this Doldokki 1.0 mm edge beveler from http://www.fineleatherworking.com/doldokki-edge-beveler/ It is a duplicative size to edge bevelers I already have so I am selling it. It is brand new. I tested it on one belt strap and have not used it since. Really sharp, great steel. A huge upgrade from Tandy edge bevelers. Asking $105 USD includes shipping in continental US. This item is currently out of stock at fine leatherworking. Description from fine leatherworking: These small and sharp tools remove the corners from your leather edges to help create a round shape. They are normally used with medium to thick leather and reduce the overall burnishing and shaping time. The award winning tool company, Doldokki has been innovating and modernizing tool designs in Korea since 2007. Founded by an automotive designer, they quickly established a reputation for high quality, beautiful tools. These sleek, ergonomic tools use a variety of exotic hardwoods include ebony, rosewood, cocobolo and Lignum Vitae. The range of woods used helps to give each hand made tool more unique characteristics. They are made from SKD11 (D2) steel that is masterfully hardened to 60 Rc and shaped to its final dimensions. The semi-stainless finish and greater hardness ensures better wear and retention of sharp edges. Each tool is hand-made in short production runs and comes ready to use immediately for your leather crafting needs.
  7. Hello! I have a Barry King Common edger for sale that I have barely used. The edger is in very good condition. I am asking $45 shipped (in the US) I can't submit a picture because the files are too large but I would be more than happy to send it in an email. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
  8. I’m wondering if anybody has tried out the edge bevelers made by Johnleather in China. The price is ridiculously low at about $10 per edger. They look good but I’m concerned about the steel they use. They make them in 316L stainless, which is a low carbon steel. If you’ve tried them out, how good of an edge can you get , and how long does it hold? I love the narrow profile but my wallet doesn’t want to let go of $60+ for a brand that I know will be high quality. Should I pass these up and save for a better brand? Here’s a link to their eBay: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F283039884275
  9. Any body have anything to share re the Weaver edging machine? Can the blades be sharpened? Do they really work ? are they worth the $1K cost? Yes, No...What????? Silverd
  10. I finally broke down and got myself a high quality tool, a Barry King Edger. The problem with nice tools is that I really want to keep it protected when not in use. This one in particular likes to roll well, so I need something I can stash it in right away when I am done using it. I am guessing the end product will be similar to a sheath, maybe with a clamshell like opening so I can snap it shut for storage. I have not been able to find any threads on the topic, so I just wanted to ask and see if anyone had any samples or solutions they like for protecting a single tool like an edger. Thank you, Andy

  13. Hello all, its been a while. Anyway, I am in the market for a new edge beveler, and I have been told that Barry King Tools makes some good edgers for the money. I was looking to either purchase their grooved edger or their common edger. They told me that the common edger gives more of a rounded edge than the grooved edger, but that the grooved edger lasts longer. I havent really had great luck with precision and consistency with the style of edger that the common edger is. The grooved edger seems more like Tandy's pro edger, which is what i'm used to. The problem is, the smallest size pro edger tandy sells is a #2, which isnt small enough, and their new fine edger is too small. I'm working a lot with 4/5 and 5/6 oz leather, and the #2 tandy sells takes too much off and does not always cut a perfectly straight bevel. I guess my question is, does anyone have any experience with the sizing of barry kings edgers and possibly how the sizing compares to tandy's? What oz of leather is recommended to use with each size beveler? Do you think the grooved edger or the common edger would be more ideal? Thank you for the input! Zayne
  14. Just purchased a #2 Montana edger from Ron's to primarily use for wallets. I generally use around 4oz leather and they suggested the #2 to see if I like it and it didn't remove much of anything from a single piece of 4oz. II'm going to exchange it but not sure which to get. My wallets are on thicker side but I don't like too aggressive of a bevel. From those with experience would you recommend the Montana or Round and which size? I understand the Montana is for thin leathers so seems I'd need at least a #3. Was thinking a #2 in the round.
  15. It's been said the best way to find something you've lost is to replace it. Well, I can verify that one. I miss placed several of my hand tools and after nearly a year of not being able to find them I started replacing the ones I was missing the most. As luck would have it I found said hand tools one week to the day after I purchased the last thing I needed. Up for sale here are 2 C.S.Osborne edegers. Size 2 and size 0. I purchased the 2 about 9 months ago and has been used maybe 5 times. I purchased the 0 exactly one week ago. It's been used twice. Both of these edegers are very sharp and in perfect condition. They edege dry leather with minimal effort and on wet leather they glide along like they are cutting air. Price is 25 each+ shipping for the Osborne's & 20 for the Ctaftool. Some may wonder why I don't just keep them because having a back up is always nice. I have multiples of all the sizes allready , no need for another set of multiples.
  16. Weaver Leather Economy EZ Edge strap edger Purchased in 2015. Still sharp and like new. Asking $200. Manufacturers Description: At a value price, this machine can round two edges simultaneously with ease. Edge the top and simply flip strap over to edge the bottom. Compact, hand-operated machine does not decrease strap width. Accommodates 1/2" to 3" strap widths. Starter gig is included. Easily mounts to your workbench with screws (not included). Users' Perspective: Great for making collars, leashes, and bridles. I used this for about 6 months. Made clean edges quick and easy. I could round the edge on a whole strap at one time. In my opinion, works best on 3/4 inch to 3 inch wide leather. Leather should be thick enough as to not bend down the middle too easily. I'm now doing jewelry professionally. Leather still a hobby, but thinning the tools out.
  17. I'm selling a vintage pricking wheel, 8spi (though you can put any size you want on it). I bought it in France. The shape is the same as the ones that were made by Blanchard, but the marking on this one says Lutz Par (for Lutz and Kremp, Paris saddlery tools company). It's in good vintage condition. Some surface pitting, but overall, pretty good - $100 (includes shipping to continental US). I'm also selling 2 Vergez-Blanchard edgers (size 0 and 1). I bought these new directly from VB, but use my Ron's edgers much more often. Both are in great condition. I polished them, so they are actually better than when they came from the manufacturer - $35 each or $60 for both. Both prices include shipping to continental US. Last item for sale is Blanchard manual edge creaser. Bought it from Fine Leatherworking couple of years ago, but since then I switched to electric creaser and don't use this one anymore - $40 (includes shipping to continental US). If you would like to send it somewhere beyond CONUS, send me a message and we'll work something out.
  18. Hand Operated "EZ Edge" Strap Edger. Slightly used and in Great Shape. This comes with 2 sets of Blades size 0 (up to 8oz leather) and size 2 (10-14oz. Leather). These blades are still very sharp. I did not edge very many belts or straps with this machine. This machine edges all four edges at the same time. Brand new through Weaver Leather, this machine sells for $1300 and the extra set of blades sell for $185. All this and free shipping for $1000. I can except PayPal as well as a check but will wait for the check to clear before shipping. The Weaver Leather Link- http://www.weaverleathersupply.com/Catalog/ItemContent.aspx?ItemNumber=9036
  19. I have these tools I bought at an auction a while back. I need help identifying what their use is. I do mainly saddle and harness work, so if they are for shoe/boot work, they are for sale or trade. I haven't found a use for them yet but Maybe if I knew what they were for, who knows ??? That awl haft is solid iron. Why would you need a haft made of iron ?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  20. I was just wondering what everyones favorite edge bevelers are, and also what you use for thinner leather (3/4 or 4/5 oz). I have used the tandy edge beveler #2 as thats the smallest size it comes in, keen edge beveler which I rarely use, and their new craftool pro classic edger size #00 and fine edger. I use the #2 edge beveler the most, as it seems to cut smother and is a lot easier to control than the new pro classic edgers. I got the new #00 for thinner leather, but I hate the design, it is a lot harder to keep it at a consistent angle, and seems to cut about as much off as the #2 edge beveler. I wish Tandy sold their edge beveler smaller than a #2, as that would probably work better with thinner leather. The #2 has a really hard time with 4/5 oz and smaller. I can use the #2 on 4/5 oz if i put another piece of leather underneath, but it cuts off too much of the edge, and by the time I go to burnish, the edge is too thin and ends up folding over, and looking like garbage. Ideally, I would want to cut off as little as possible, so the edge isn't extremely round, more flat. But when I have tried that, the edge still folds over slightly on front and back, and doesn't look good. Does anyone have a method for getting a more flat (slightly rounded) edge, without the leather folding over? I am open to using another brand beveler, I would just like to hear everyones favorites first! Thanks! Zayne
  21. Hi there! I am needing to bevel the edges of some 3/4 oz. Hermann Oak veg tan leather. I have a #2 edge beveler from Tandy that I have always used on 8/9 oz. leather but of course it doesn't work on the 3/4oz. I am looking into buying an edger or edge beveler and I was wondering what the best size would be to get. I have been looking at the Barry King Common Edger Size: 0. Would that be the correct size for the weight I am working with? Also, is there a difference between an edge beveler and an edger? I see that only edgers come in sizes below 2. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

  23. Hi all: First I should say sorry for my poor English,I am a newcomer and feel pleasure to join the forums, absolutely so many beautiful works and nice people here. I need some advice about which brand of edgers you prefer to use? I want to make smooth, wider edge for wallet making. Thanks! Look forward to your reply. Joy
  24. Anyone used a Barry King grooved edger? Any thoughts on it? I'm considering purchasing a set, but I would love some feedback before I do. And pro or cons vs their common edger? My primary goal is a nice round edge on the leather, and a tool that is easy to sharpen.
