Nothing special, haven’t been around here lately, so I didn’t wanna come empty handed. A couple things knocked out last night.

Tried out a Tandy shoe kit. Actually the Tandy fellas here ask me to build a pair for the store. I’m happy. Now I gotta make the other shoe.

I may have posted this here when I finished it some time ago. Sorry about that, but this is about it coming back too visit this weekend with the owner. I’ve been making a few things here and there and no matter how long I’ve been doing this, I never ever get bored or tired of the craft Because of stuff like this. Old dude was out and about early on a beautiful Sunday grinning ear to ear and retelling all compliments he had gotten at the gun show. It’s so cool to know people think you have some magical power and consider something you made a valuable possession. When I’m long gone from here, I’ll have done my job and left people wondering… who in the heck made this….

Finally finished up this Caiman/oil tan roll top backpack. Original pattern called for hand stitching the entire thing. No thanks. Stitched entirely on my 29-18 patcher.

Finally got me a rattlesnake. From Nevada of all places. Here I am in Deep South Texas surrounded by scrub brush, and can’t find a rattlesnake to save my life. The diamondbacks online have really gotten pricey, in 1996 they were 75$, now a decent skin is 200+. I’ve worked with every permitted skin on the planet, but rattlesnake is Handsdown the coolest I think.

Tried making something I’ve never made before, a watch band/strap. Gave me a good reason to bust out the blue edge kote.

Using up years of scraps… ladies seem love these bags, so imma keep making em.
-
Progress on using up 35 years of scraps.

A buddy wanted a sheath to take on vacation. I didn’t know this till the day he was leaving. I had 5 hours, start to finish. Had to make the lace too. Wasn’t much dry time allowed for anything, but it got done and he left for Mexico to surf.
-
Mr. Peanut and Kermit the frog both knew the risk, but they went there anyway..

I knew I’d do something with these scraps someday. Pushing 40 years later, but I kept my promise. Scrap purse. No plan or reason.

Finally finished up completely with the slings. No rhyme no reason on any of them. Just started till I stopped and hoped for the best. I guess they did, cause they’re gone already. Hope you like them. Merry Christmas folks.
-
Tank bib I’ve been working on using a canebrake skin. I like it. Don’t have a motorsycle tho.
-
Some rifle slings I worked up. Hope you guys like ‘em.
-
Couple slings I’m making. Gator, and canebrake rattler.
-
Finally finished up the kukuri sheath. Kinda wanna keep it….
-
Another kukuri sheath I’m knocking out. No turtle this time tho. Turtled out for a minute. Got gator on this one. Cut and dyed the lace myself. In 34 years I’ve never bought lace. That 5$ lace maker was a hell of an investment… almost done.
-
Some more things I got finished up. Both snapping turtle. The sheath I believe I’ve posted previously, if so my bad.
-
Clutch purse pattern I made ‘bout 35 years ago. Done it so long I don’t even have the pattern. I just do it. Change it up to fit the here and now… women seem to dig it…
-
Just about done with this one. Colors are different, but it matches some fellas motorsycle.
-
Sheath I just finished up. Came out better than I expected. Couldn’t figure out what to do with the skin because I wasn’t impressed with the color it was. Came out al’ite…
-
Just some pics of my process. A lot to explain, but hopefully someone interested in learning something new can take something from them.

Made this holster with turtle tail. Had to do quite a bit of fleshing to get maximum use from it. 6 sq inches of useable leather is hard to stretch. A 1” belt sander w/120 grit and a feel for what you’re doing and you can make use of the rock hard 1/2” thick outer edges. Turtle puts off more dust than any other leather I’ve used so it’s best done outside. It takes more work than other exotics, but it’s definitely an attention getter. Sewing it together was easy peazy on the 29k except in one area where I could’ve skived it thinner, but the China patcher handled that like it should’ve. Customer loves it and that’s all that matters. Be great to make a costume out of, And what I’ve been told they’re tasty too. I dunno about that, but I’ll eat anything with gravy…
