Hello all. Short and quick question that I know won't have a short answer. I have a Gritzner sole stitching machine that works like a charm. When stitching the wet leather sole, the chrome face plate is turning my leather sole black (chrome worn off). I am wanting to rechrome the faceplate but wanted to get everybody's opinion first. Has anybody successfully had parts rechromed for sewing machines? Would it be cost effective or would the tolerances be out of wack by doing so. The reason I want to rechrome is the wonderful world of google returns nothing as far as Gritzner or Frobana new parts. If anybody has a good source for parts I would be equally interested.

I'm not sure if there is a category somewhere that you can mention items for sale, apologies if this should be somewhere else. Likewise with almost all forum members being in North America my item for sale may not be suitable? I've owned a GENUINE Frobana "bent needle stitcher", or to give it it's other typical title, "Side Sole Stitcher" on it's highly useful pedestal base since about 1994. I've never used it for shoe-making rather used it's ability to stitch two pieces of very heavy material together by sewing down the sides, eg : heavy straps or belts. It was originally fitted with it's motor but the retiring cobbler I bought it from had to remove that and the belts as the "Health and Safety Inspector" - probably a "jobs worth" as we call them - was concerned the operator would get chewed up by them as they had no guards. The cobbler was happy continuing the use the machine by hand-crank and this is where it's genuine base makes that much, much easier. Later on I sources a heavy 230 volt single phase motor with stepping pulleys and independent clutch and was only going to add this into the base . . . but we all have projects we never got around to finishing, don't we? Time has caught up with me and now I get to retire too so I've been selling off that machinery that I reckon I'll not ever use again. Just sold my Singer 136w104 Post stitcher on a lovely genuine Singer cast iron base but retro-fitted with modern motor. I have my Frobana listed on eBay (UK) if anyone is interested? Item number : 274486486197 I am able to securely pack these items and strap to a pallet so, just maybe, long distance carriage is feasible? I'need a manual for this machine. It is complete, and should sew. It remains un-identified. There is a stamping on a boss that says SWISS MADE. It has a serial number. There is an obscure stamping that reads: F-52 My big problem is thread routing. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED, THANKS!!!!

My machine has three of these thread carriers. the inner, grooved roller is fixed, however the outside slotted shell has 2 seperate slots that can be adjusted to affect the thread path. If you study the picture you can see that where the thread exits the slot. If you look carefully at that ring at about 7:00 o'clock you can see the thread entering the other slot. Can the orientation of the slots affect the thread tension? In my minds eye if the ring was rotated counterclockwise so that the thread exited at ...say...12 o'clock instead of 3 o'clock it would be harder to pull. Am I on the right track??

Dear All, I am new to the forum and have a question that I imagine may already have been looked at by some of you. I was given a Frobana outsole stitcher in dubious shape but am keen to get it stitching. I am struggling a little to adjust the timing of the hook and am wary of getting too physical with the workings until I know which screws etc I need to deal with. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I'm not sure of the model but it has a wooden base and no cowling over the machine....... looks like the one in this youtube post: Regards, Alex

For sale is a Frobana (Wuppertal, Germany) made Sole stitcher. I bought this machine in 2007, got the inside oiled and working again, but somehow never got around to using it much. It takes up too much space in my shop, and it really breaks my heart that this machine is not being used, so I have decided to part with it. It is working perfectly fine, and I would say the overall technical condition is good, with the look being fair. Still the original paintjob, only the wooden base looks quite a bit worse for the wear. Please judge the machine according to the pictures I have provided. I have also made a video showing the machine stitching some 13 ounce leather. Machine: Machine, as seen in pictures and video, with one new needle mounted Key to change leather thickness (if I find it) photocopy of the manual, and a large spool of linen thread - I had to use a wrong type of thread for the video and pics. Hi everyone, I am a total newbie but an enthusiastic one I want to make leather shoes and I figured out in order to achieve this I need a leather stitching machine. I would like to make cup-soled (soft rubber) boots (or moccassins if you like) with a 4-5mm thick sole and leather upper. The sole is more like a crepe-sole but the edges curled up. Can anyone suggest the best machine for this intended purpose? I've been looking at a hand driven Frobana, its seems like an affordable and suitable candidate, but you tell me. I'm also wondering if there are other Frobana models or only one? Because in the forums I saw some with a channel cuter knife and others with only teeth. Or it is only a question of changing parts? Also a lot of people mentioned the size of the holes the needle makes. How big is it actually? And is it possible to feed the machine with anything else than waxed thread? Im thinking about wild colored artificial threads. Any help is greatly appreciated, Happy Holidays: Robin
