  1. When I line my western gunbelts I use suede, glued and sewn, I can only find a source for double shoulders and if the belt is too long I need to splice the lining. I've been doing this with a baseball stitch to hold the two pieces together until it's glued, which works good up until I need to trim the excess lining. When I trim the lining, I have to cut the threads at the end of the stitch line, which means the stitch line has no finish. It's glued down, but my concern is over time the thread may pull and the spliced edge could lift. If anyone could suggest a better way, I'm all ears
  2. Hello was curious about best type of leather to use for a gun belt/ heavy belt. Read a double bend would be best. What others are good for this? Any input or source to buy said leather would be appreciated!
  3. Hello, again! Here is the gun belt to the holster I posted earlier. A friend commissioned me to make it for his 45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk. He's a big fan of tie-down roping and asked me to incorporate some roping scenes. Let me know what you think and please ask if you have any questions. -Ryan
  4. l followed Jim Simmons’ tutorial on making a Plains Gun Belt, but adopted it to be a shell belt for 6 pairs of 12 gauge shotgun shells and 6 .38 cal cartridges for Cowboy Action Shooting. The other alteration is that the belt is lined - made from two pieces of 7/8 oz. leather. Now I am making a pair of lined holsters and a Ranger style gun belt to go along with it. The belt will also be lined (made from 2 layers of 7/8 oz leather). My question is: Should the billets (both buckle and tongue) be made from 2 layers as well? I think yes for both strength and consistency, but is there a strong arguement for not doing so? Thanks, any input is welcome!
  5. Hi, guys! So my dad got my brother a .22 revolver for a birthday present and my gift to him was that I would make him a holster to go with it. ...several months later... And here it is! Let me know what you guys think. Comments/critique are always welcome. I read Jim's tutorial in the holster/knife sheath part of the forum and it really helped. Thanks for looking! -Ryan
  6. I have a friend who has an old western style gun belt and wants to know if I can take off the old cracked lining of the inside of the belt and replace it. I am fairly new to leatherwork, I've made some wallets, keychains, leatherman cases. But I haven't messed with lining too much especially the removal of old lining. Once I get the old stitches out what is the best way to remove the old lining without damaging the belt?
  7. Here is the latest gun belt off the bench. Two-ply 8 oz veg tan, laminated on a round jig, 277 thread top and bottom, hammered finish, Fiebings pro oil black 100%, Resolene 50/50, Sno-Seal. I used a synthetic black gum trag from GoodsJapan on this one... I like it a lot. Edge burnish: 50/50 beeswax/parafin, cocobolo burnisher chucked into drill press, final burnish using wax mixture on 100% wool discs made from saddle pad. Stainless chicago screws, stainless roller buckle.
  8. Hi everyone! i ve been working wth leather and been a member of this forum for a while now but i never really shared any of my projects until now. i have recently designed a mini fat bowie for myself named "The Monster Cleaver" and got it done through ABS J.S. Doug Campbell. After getting the knife done i have decided to make a unique and one of a kind sheath and way to carry it, so i ve started my designing process and came with what i thought was a unique design. Anyways i wanted to share the finish product with you and get your opinions and any questions you might have about the sheath or the knife. Thanks for checking out my work and topic, i hope you like what your see, thanks again and enjoy.
  9. I bought an LCP-C 380, outfitted with a Crimson Trace and needed a paddle holster that doesn't seem to exist for the combination. Thought it would be a good time to try to make one. So this is my first attempt at creating a holster pattern from scratch, a lined holster, a holster with opening reinforcement, a paddle holster. I also wanted it to match, or at least coordinate with, my first gun belt that I made last year. The gun belt is three ply consisting of two outer plies of 6 oz leather and an inner ply of kydex. The paddle was purchased from G-Code. Belt buckle and chicago screws are stainless. Thread is 277 top and bottom. Stitched on a Cowboy CB3200. I'm pretty happy with the results, although not satisfied with the stitching on the holster (I think tension was too tight). The edging on the holster is improved over the gun belt. Used synthetic gum trag this time... liked it. Dipped in 100% Fiebings Pro Dye, 50/50 Resolene, and (on the holster) a final coat of Sno-Seal. I know Dwight uses Sno-Seal only... might try that next time. I'm just not sold on the benefit of Resolene and it is harder than hell to apply evenly. Tried dipping the holster in it this time, but still had to brush it out. Daubers don't work... maybe my dilution is wrong for it to sheet off after dipping... any suggestions are welcome.
  10. I wanted to share this video my wife just shot of me in my shop. Hope you enjoy and are inspired to hand craft the finest leather products you can!
  11. Thought I would share a new YouTube series I started on leather craft and hanging out in my leather shop with me doing shop talk. Please watch, like, comment and share. Thanks! Here is episode 4:
  12. Hi Forum members, Does anyone have experience with the MP Leather Burnisher by Cobra? I have seen the you tube video but still unsure. Does anyone have this machine or used it? Im deciding on whether to buy and am looking for honest reviews. My gun belt business is starting to get really busy and need something that can speed up my hand burnishing process and make my edge look good. Please advise. Thanks!
  13. Hope you guys enjoy the new episode. Please subscribe to my channel. Thanks!
  14. Here is another video on stitching if you guys are interested. I stitch a gun belt. Please subscribe to channel if you can. Thanks!
  15. I made this as a Christmas gift for my buddy's wife. he gave it to her early and she loved it so I'm happy there. The leather was about 9/10oz Herman Oak, I lined it with pig skin, colors used was fiebings mahogany, saddle tan and fiebings mahogany antique. I was pretty happy with this one but if you see something I could do to improve by all means let me hear it. I'm always looking to improve! Thanks and have a great day!
  16. Just finished up a couple more gun belts. I'm trying to build up some stock in order to have some items for display at some upcoming gun shows. I think these will be for display only as I don't see myself trying to make a hundred or so belts for immediate sale. But would like to display these so potential customers can see and feel the product.
  17. From the album: Custom Projects

1800's Money gun belt and holster for a Colt 45.
  18. I wanted a nice belt for lugging around my stainless 1911 and couldn't find anything I liked. My girlfriend dabbles in leather work and pushed me to give it a go. Here's what I ended up with.
  19. Hi everybody, I would like to make a belt for a Rifle with a moose or moose head, and maybe a few twigs on it. But until now I still have no good idea how it would look. The belt is at the widest point approximately 3.5 inches. Is there somewhere a picture or a pattern to look at? It would be nice if someone could help me a little. Until then ever thank
  20. Forgive me. I still haven't figured out how to post more images on a thread that is already going. So, (sorry) I'm gonna make another. Here is the whole thing. Two different holsters, mag pouches, and a drop and holster for my wheel gun. I thought that there is no need to make two different belts just to get the effect you want. The drop simulates a buscadero type hang for my revolver. I don't know if anyone else has done this... Am I the first??? Thanks for looking enjoy. Pic 1, is the belt Pic 2, is the set up for my S&W Sigma (yes I own one, and I LOVE it). Pic 3, is the set up for my S&W 686, with a belt slider "SASS drop". Gun slinger style. Murray
  21. I have wanted to make myself a gun belt ever since I started working with leather (I'm a bit of a gun nut that's what pushed me to this craft). So now I've finally done it. Here is my very first gun belt. I like it a lot, hope you do to. Thanks for looking, enjoy Murray
  22. This is the second holster and gun belt I made. It was time consuming but fun.
