Next up... getting ready to stitch up (maybe lace...depends on how lazy I'm feeling when the glue dries) a range pouch for sub compact autos. Still working out some design concepts, but this one's working out nice so I think I'll keep it

Just finished this one up...thought I'd share it with y'all...

Working through a few orders lately, and had a request for an inside the waistband holster with tensioner. Worked up some changes to my normal template to accommodate. With the adjustable tension, it might be my new favorite inside the waistband design.

Had an order for a custom 3 slot holster for a sig p365, the customer wanted some kind of fanciful artwork with his brothers nickname added. Did some drafts, went back and forth and ended up with the artwork you see. Once the pattern was worked up I ended up building the holster out of a 6oz (ish) veg with full suede lining (all chrome free suede). All sewn togther with some Ritza 1.0mm in white. I went ahead and put the two slots for adjusting cant on the back vs. front to keep the whole unit roughly in the same place so it wouldn't be so floppy on the straight draw. Couple of minor things I might change if I built this one again, maybe a slightly lighter veg body as it got rather thick after all the lining was added. Maybe 5oz.

The last comments I can find are from 2009, and a quick search gets me a few companies, Holster Smith.com, etc. Does anyone have a favorite budget gun blank to recommend? Has anyone used Cook's Gun Molds? How is the fit? Thanks

Had a request to design and build a holster for a coworker's Taurus Tracker. I had limited time to put something together (<5hrs from start to handing it over) and since none of my other revolver templates would allow for the extra tall sights on the tracker, I had to start from scratch. In light of the timing I'm happy with how it turned out. There are a few oopsies, but I'll leave those for you to find Before anybody yells at me for leaving a gun in a wet holster, I did plastic wrap the revolver before molding, and put a good coat of gunoil on it as well as cleaned it afterward. So no throwing me into a gun god's volcano for sacrilege today. Also, the holster will have dry time while he's driving out, so there shouldn't be an issue there. The inside of the holster was buffed and sealed, the outside was dyed and finished in multiple coats of Resolene. The trigger guard stitch line runs along the edge of the reinforcement piece, hard to see from this angle but it's there. The rivets are mostly cosmetic, the only actual function is for the one closes to the belt slot to prevent any separation should the glue decide to stop doing it's job.

I've heard references to snap guards on thumb breaks, for holsters, i'm new to the craft, so wondering what they are? How do you make one? Etc. Do you just cover it, ?

Just wondered how much change there was between the 1800's western holsters for the Mr Average and the holsters of the film industry For instance there is a big difference between the latter John Wayne holsters and the average cowboy holsters seen in the films and probably safe to assume the 1800's were far cheaper and more basic designs Also never understood that for the slightly longer time to draw a pistol for the average guy, they did not copy the covered in cavalry holsters that protected the gun far better , and if ok for calvary who probably saw more action, then why not mr average It would appear that gunfights portrayed in films were a very rare occurrence, with few noted in history so micro second speed would really be called upon

Just finished up this holster for a police officer I know. The design may look familiar (thank you JLS!). I used Fiebings saddle tan with Fiebings show brown on the edges. Finished off with Satin Sheen and then a final coat of carnuba wax. Interesting story on that pattern; I have made a 42 Holster before using JLS`s terrific pattern, but I could not find that pattern in my files anywhere. JLS took the free downloads off his website, so l had resigned myself to drawing a new pattern myself. Then I found a pattern for a Glock 19 that had printed too small. Took some measurements, and the shrunken 19 pattern was a perfect fit! Had to adjust for length, but what a time saver - not to mention JLS tried and true patterns are better than mine.

This one is How to Make Holsters. It came rolled up, and I will probably ship it rolled as well, so there is a slight curl overall, but it will probably flatten out. This retails all over the place, I'll sell it for $10 plus shipping. It has a lot of details as well, including templates for various holsters, belts and carving patterns. Ill just get right to it. First.. if I am using an 8-9 Herman Oak veg tan leather, dyed with pro dye, do I need to also apply neetsfoot? Usually my process goes: Dip Pro dye, neetsfoot, leather balm (with atom wax) and then beeswax I have tried resolene, but didn’t research well and tried to apply straight out of the bottle. Knowing now, it needs to be diluted. On my wallets I used the same process, but with the leather balm, it actually pulled out an oily color after it dried. That is on 2-3 oz kipskin from Weaver. Second.. I have a real problem with dye rubbing off onto cash and cards with the wallets. Is it because it is kipskin? Tonight I tried applying leather sheen to the flesh side to prevent that from happening. Before that, I have tried rubbing until my arm is numb with little difference. Also, on the holsters, would I use the same technique as on a wallets flesh side to prevent bleeding? My main concern is the inconsistency. And then the amount of time I spend appying the leather balm, especially if it has no real benefit to these projects. Ideally, if I could get away using just the pro dye and beeswax, it would be great, but I’m not sure if that is okay? Thank you in advance! Frank

I had a customer ask for a custom set of suspenders. And he want it to have a holster under one arm and 2 spare mags on the other. He does not want a chest strap and wants to have the holster an mags detachable so he can have just to suspenders. I have tried to make patterns and I basically am lost. Any and all help will be deeply appreciated.

How do you get a molded gun holster like this done. I kinda of understand the wet molding process but how do you make sure sure you only effect the tooling as little as possible. Do you only wet the inside of finished holster and then vacuum pack.

Greetings from Nor'Easter region, It's been close to a decade since I did any projects but after getting a Single Action Army and a new skinning blade blank I've gotta dust off the cobwebs and see what I remember. I started on a Tandy beginners box set that was probably made for teens but after a few projects on some oak shoulders and scraps from a friend I started getting into it. Past projects where coin purses, messenger style bags, sheaths and a few whips, the stand out ones where the 8ft bull whip and the cat o' nine tails. Recently I acquired a SAA revolver and the holster I plan to make will probably be worth more than the gun itself, no offense H&R, she's a fun little .22 and I like her. I also found some new knife blanks that may or may not be the greatest but I've only had them a few days and they feel nice and they need a proper dressing. I've been a carpenter/woodworker my whole life so I have the handle ideas down but I will have questions on ideas for sheathing styles and patterns. Suppose since I will have enough veg tan left after the SAA holster I should make one for my 9mm but I may put that on hold while I try a run at a Tombstone replica rig for the single action. Heard rumor Doc carried double action revolvers in real life so I might not match the guns but I will try his suspender style rig, looks a little awkward but probably functions well, I do prefer a cross draw. I will post a picture of my first project because it's really how I started years ago, Tandy precut and all, also I will post the the two new items that need some new clothes. I will be asking a few questions here and there if I don't find them in the forum search. I think tonight I'm just gonna skim the forums and work on my Dubbin mix. Found some local beeswax from the same guy that sold me our Christmas tree and gonna put it to some use.
