Hello. I'm still pretty new to leatherworking. I would like to make an iPad case for a friend. I have ideas for a design, but I don't know how I would add stability and protection. The cases you can buy from the store have a hard inner sheet under a thin, fake leather. Does anyone know what that hard sheet is made of, or what might work as a substitute? If all else fails, I might just use heavier leather without an inner sheet. Thanks!

Hey guys! I had some not so great scrap leather hanging around that wasn't quit good enough to use for something I'd sell, so I thought I'd prototype something new. It's a case for an iPad mini. It has one main compartment with a belt with a buckle that goes around the whole case. On the back, a notebook or papers could be stored under the strap. For the hardware, I just used an a buckle from an old belt my wife doesn't use anymore. Anyway, have a look and let me know what you think. -Nick

One final view of the left side. The pen holder is visible, and you can also see that the bottom of the case tapers. This is done to allow the folio to sit better on a desktop when its propped up on the rolled cover. During the design phase I had made sure the rear pocket would be large enough that the taper would not force the writing pad to rise up out of the back.© ©BarkingRooster 2014 / Adam Taylor

I made the toggle fastening mechanism from some pieces of scrap leather laminated into a strip which i then sanded down to a cylinder shape and burnished up to a glossy finish, before drilling two holes for the thong to pass through. The thong is long enough to pass right around the case and loop back over the first toggle. A second toggle was used to pull up against the first allowing it to stay firmly held in place. I decided to put the pocket for the writing pad and loose leafs at the back of the folio. This way they are available when needed, but kept out of the way. Its approx 2cm deep to take a reasonable amount of paper, and I also put the business card sleeve at the back also. Asked to make a business folder that could be used with an iPad, and this is the result. Designed to be used during showroom presentations, so needed to be comfortable to hand hold whilst showing videos. Other requirements were a phone pocket, a slot for business cards and a storage compartment for holding a writing pad and loose pages. I also found out the client was left-handed, which informed quite a few design decisions including the layout of the technology and even the placing of the pen holder on the left side! I'm happy to say my client is delighted with her iPad Case. (and i'm very proud of it too.)© ©BarkingRooster 2014 / Adam Taylor

I'd like to make a couple of Kobo & Ipad Mini covers but have no idea where to buy the plastic holder brackets ( they secure the Ipad/Kobo onto the cover). Does anyone know of a supplier?

New design idea of an ipad Mini case. I wanted to bevel the inside edges of the frame that holds the ipad, but couldn't work out a good way to get in to the corners, any ideas? Also the closing straps are just a try out, hence the not so neat edges, gonna change them today. I also like the rugged look of using actual hinges on the case, but would like to recess them into the leather so they sit flush, but no idea how to do this! Any comments welcome, thanks! -
Hi I have been lurking around here for a while and decided to come forward and say hello. Just started my leatherworking and find it really fun. Love this site since it is a goldmine for anyone who needs info or help. Well I decided to make an Ipad case after doing some knifesheats, so this is my third attempt on making something in leather. I have been looking at Nigel Armitage's youtube tutorials and they are just fantastic, he really are a amazing teacher. Comments and critisism arr welcome.
