I have the possibility to buy a Fortuna Model 620: 12″ Bandknife Splitting Machine for less then 600$. Similar as the one in the picture I attached. Does anyone have experience with this kind of splitting machine ? Even better, does anyone have a manual for this kind of machine ? Any tips or recommendations are welcome !!!

Works beautifully. Looks great. No missing parts. This machine in a factory powered configuration are rare indeed. I never seen another one with a factory Landis motor. This machine is so heavy I just dont trust shipping it. So those of you wishing to drive to middle TN 37027 please reach out to me. As I have aged, and my leather hobby slowing down, I have decided to sell many of my machines. I have some really hard to find pieces that have taken close to 20 years to accumulate. Replacing a band-blade in a Fortuna SAS leather splitting machine can be a complicated job, follow the instructions carefully and have plenty of space around your machine to work. Our Fortuna SAS 15″ band blade leather splitter recently developed a crack in the blade and needed to be replace. These steps are taken almost verbatim from the Fortuna owners manual. Hi everyone, I have recently started my leather journey making bags and wallets. I am now feeling the itch for a leather splitter with a long knife to be able to make wallets out of the leather I use to make bags. This would help me minimise inventory and save $ in the long term. I know that some people recommend just buying the required thickness, unfortunately most leather suppliers where I live in Australia do not split on request (let me know if you know a place that does that in Australia). I have searched for reviews for the Cowboy 8020 or Techsew SP-20 but can not find anything apart from videos coming form the dealers themselves. I know someone on this forum has already asked the same question about 4 years ago but no one was able to give a first hand review or impression for it. I am hoping that some people would have bought the machine since then and could give us their impression. These machines are quite costly and I am worried that they require too much maintenance for the average Joe without much sharpening skill. I know the Cobra class 14 receives a lot of praise but I am hoping to get a splitter with a larger knife. Plus here in Australia, the cobra class 14 is dearer than the cowboy 8020 despite its shorter blade. Thanks for your insight.

Hello everyone, Would someone mind giving me a hand with this Landis Model 30 splitter blade set up? It is giving me fits. I just got the blade back from the sharpener and can't remember exactly how to reinstall it. I have a couple specific questions. 1) Do I have the blade stops installed correctly on the bottom roller? 2) Do I have the blade facing the correct direction? Do I need to flip it over? 3) Is the idea to raise the bottom roller up to close the gap between the blade and the roller? Or lower the bottom roller down to close the gap? 4) How far forward does the blade sit in relation to the blade stops? I have raised and lowered the bottom rollers a bunch of times and can't seem to get the 1/16th recommended gap. It is either way too big (about 1/8" and everything slides under) or I end up having the blade just resting on the bottom roller which isn't good either. I must be missing something. For context, in a perfect world I would set this machine up to split English Bridle from about 2.5mm down to about 0.8-1mm. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. -
For sale a barely used leather splitter machine. I bought it directly from Ryan Neal of Cowboy The reason I'm selling it is that I really never use it and it's been just sitting around in my workshop The machine is located in Mexico but I can ship it to U.S. or Canada, the shipping charge is around $200.00 but if you are interested please let me know it and I will give you the exact amount of shipping. I bought the machine from Ryan for $2300.00 with speed reducer and motor. I want to sell it for $1700.00 Table and table legs are not included because it will increase a lot the shipping and it would be difficult for me to load the machine. The machine weighs around 250 pounds so it's kind of heavy. I'll ship the machine very clean and with a razor sharp blade so you can start using it right away. Hello everyone, I know all the major brands of leather splitters but they are out of my money reach right now. I found a video on YouTube of a guy in Germany making his own splitter and it looks good. I even contacted him and the price is reasonable, about 200 EUR depending on the model. I am not advertising anything, just want to know if anyone knows this guy or has maybe purchased a splitter made by him. His YouTube channel is Alexander Majura.

Hello fellow leather craftsmen I am offering this beautiful Mayer and Flamery Machine a Parer for sale. These machines were made in Paris around the turn of the century and their reputation exceeds that of the famous J. Dixon or Osbourne splitters and are rare today even in France! The splitter is in perfect condition with a professionally hollow ground blade, honed and ready for another 100 years of service. This has been my backup machine, but honestly I only hone my own blade twice a year so there is no need for two machine when one of you folks could put it to good use! I am asking 2000 AUD for the machine or the nearest offer. Kind Regards, Aaron. -

I have been looking at the table top 6 inch leather splitter. Would appreciate any comments on how good they work for reducing thickness for small straps and tapering the ends of belts. Thanks Ken

This is a Tandy discontinued model, as they currently only have a 6-inch version to offer. I have had this as a backup splitter, however as I have never had to use it, I have now decided to sell some of my surplus equipment. This model is a clone of an Osborne 84 and have had very little use. It works very well and there are no problems or missing parts. It comes complete with a spare blade that has never been used. The paper scale you can see has arbitrary units and is simply a reference scale when splitting multiple pieces of leather to the same thickness. Price is Sterling £275 plus shipping cost (I'm based in London, UK). Paypal only. I will ship worldwide, please PM me for quote on shipping costs to your county. I will only ship with sign and tracking, due to the nature of the item. First come, first served and no offers, please. Has anyone ever tried using a wood planer, similar to the one pictured below, to split leather? This machine cuts up to .125 inches and I was thinking that a piece of 8-9oz leather could be attached to a thin metal plate (to raise the leather up to help achieve the desired thickness) with the use of repositionable leather tape and passed through the machine. This would be for larger pieces and would be less expensive than buying some of the machines I've been thinking about purchasing. I'm assuming it would be the same principle but thought I'd reach out and get opinions of others out there in the community who may have had the same idea. Thanks in advance!

Do you think it's possible to use a hand-crank splitter as a skiver on edges? I imagine you could back up the piece after splitting a little... but then would be left with having to cut off the partially split part?... Though, not sure feeding it only a little is even possible since the skiving area is so minimal. I don't own one of these machines so I can't test it out... Leatherworkers with hand-crank splitters, what are your thoughts?

Any suggestions on a leather splitter machine, electric preferred, that has a small foot print? I'm a home based business and need to find machines with a small footprint for a small work space. I don't foresee anything having to be split that has a width over 10" at this phase of my business. Advise is greatly appreciated!

A singer leather sewing / Patching machine model no 29k58, Good working order, cast is in good condition with no cracks, belt brand new, parts are well oiled. variouse assesores, comes with original wooden drawer which is not in the picture. This was known as a 'Boot Patcher' The Foot could be turned in any direction so that it was possible to stitch in any direction. I am getting started in saddlery and other leather work and have been looking for a leather splitter. I came across a 3-in-1 crank splitter/skiver/cutter on ebay and was wondering whether anyone could shed some light on the quality and capabilities of this machine. I would have to restore it, but I'm just not sure it will do the things I would need it to do. I actually get a kick out of restoring old stuff, especially since I can get things cheaper when they need restoration work. Couldn't read the model numbers on it, so I attached a photo. Wondering whether a machine like this will be a good addition to my shop, or whether I should just look for a smaller pull-through Osborne or similar machine.

Can Anybody Identify The Maker Of This Bech Splitter?

Does anyone recognize this splitter? Can anyone tell e who made it? Do they make them still? Looks like it may be a one-off made in a machine shop, but made darn well! If I cannot find a maker nor any patent or licensing info on it, I may start having them reproduced. I have a great machinist here in town who can fabricate all the parts and will grind the blades, and one of the best blade makers/swordsmiths in the country is right here in town too(K.C. Lund) and he can do the heat treat on the 01 steel blades. We can even offer pattern welded (Damascus) blades if anyone wants to pay a ridiculous amount for one Let me know if y'all are interested, so I can look into whether or not it will be worthwhile to have these cranked out.
