  7. Hello everyone. It never occured to me to look for a dedicated online forum when I first started out on this little adventure. My story starts the same way many of your do too - A couple of years ago, I was in need of a new belt. I was usually content with the store-bought belts that I had been wearing all my life until I saw a guy with a genuine veg tan leather belt and asked him about it. I told my brother about what I had seen and the conversation that ensued, a week later a beginners leatherworking tool kit arrived with a dozen belt blanks and a note from my brother telling me to have at it and see what I could do. Those first few belts were a disaster; horrible dye jobs. The edges were nowhere near nice enough to show anyone. I rushed through the first batch rather than taking my time to get them right. I have since slowed down. Each step it taken with care. As my skills improved, so have my tools. My most recent project is a new wristband for my watch as they don't make them long enough to go around my wrists.

  15. The Power Of Creative Therapy! I've always had a lot of hobbies but discovered leathercraft during a difficult time in my life. It was extremely therapeutic as well as rewarding and helped me focus on what I was doing creatively rather than on the problems around me. Over the years I've discovered a lot of people with a similar experience as mine. We all need a healthy outlet that does not involve looking at a screen or being preoccupied with likes on social media. One good friend and successful leather artisan once shared with me that prior to getting involved with leathercraft she was losing an ongoing battle with depression. She had been on medication and therapy for a while, but in spite was getting worse. Then one day someone introduced her to leathercrafting and suggested she give it a try. She immediately took to it and her condition began to rapidly improve. Within a short amount of time, she was off her meds and living a healthy and productive lifestyle. Since then she's made a career out of her craft and has received multiple awards and honors for her work and contributions. Healthy creative expression is not only a very important part of who we are, I believe it's also food for our souls. Its a beautiful way to share with others some of our finer qualities rather than some of the chaos we're fed through the media everyday. You can't always take a vacation from stress in your life, but you can find opportunities to rest and recharge through creativity. There are also many reasons why I love to work with leather besides the fact that I find it relaxing and therapeutic. So, I don't want you to think that it's just something I do to chill out, it's also extremely rewarding... It's provided me with incredible opportunities to develop my talents into a profession and work with some of the most talented craftsmen in the world. I love the strong sense of community that exists within the trade and the support that the community shares with one another. Leather is also perhaps one of the most versatile materials in the world and its craft is as ancient as civilization itself. Leathercraft is a skill that just about anyone can learn and put to use in their lives, given the opportunity. Thanks, Chris Free Tutorials, printable leathercraft patterns, and articles can be found on my website at, www.fischerworkshops.com My 1st workshop in Taiwan before starting the Fischer Workshops Youtube Channel
  16. I have been racking my brain for the past few months and I have not been able to come up with a name that I am satisfied with for my one-man leatherworking operation. I really would just like some filler words, for example: mercantile, brand, works, goods, etc... I would love to use my last name (Petty), but unfortunately, the word "petty" also has a definition in the dictionary that is synonomous with lesser quality. But if I could insert a filler word, so that "Petty" isnt describing the type of leather, or the type of operation I am running, that would be ideal. Something like "Petty (insert word here) leather goods". Or am I just over-thinking this? Because, at the same time, I think that anyone with common sense would realize that no one in their right mind would use a negative word like "petty" to describe their own product, so they must come to the conclusion that "petty" is a surname. Am I right? I don't know! Does anyone have any good ideas? What are some common generic words people use in their leather company names, or even words that people use in the trade business? Thanks Zayne
  17. I designed and created this bag for a professional photographer in Belgium. There is space for a 13inch laptop, camera and 2 lenzes, at the back there is a zipper for paper work. 2 front pockets and 2 pen holders.
  18. This is my third leather studio-shop in the last 14 years. Prior to the three I worked out of a 2x4' closet. The one I will be showing is mainly the main bench of my 12.5x16" spare master bed room in the far side of my Florida home. Fully environmently controlle with 5500K overhead lighting, LED spot lighting, and a magnifying LED craft like. The tools I use nearly daily are on this bench. I have a couner height workbench behind me that has a couple of rivet, tool presses on it, a 6" leather skiver, and more tools. I currently have a collection of 400 midas stamps, nearly 200 USA Craftools, and a few unmarked one. I have room left there if I need to expand. I will be setting up a small shop this summer in our North Carolina vacation home, God willing! That way we can spent a few weeks with our grandkids in the mountains. Now the photos. Including some of my custom tools if I have them on my cellphone.

  20. Hi all, I will start this topic cause almost all the links in my old post here got broken. Sorry for that, I probably do have some fault in that but still don't know how that happened. Also I want to say I am sorry I just had no time to post here more often. Had some big orders this year and still I am trying to catch up with it all. I am also expanding my workshop and opening additional arts and crafts studio. It should have been done at March but the workshop is constantly busy so I am forced to delay the whole thing couple more weeks. Will post some pics as soon as I do move... Ok, and here are some pics of my work... Btw. all of you that have seen them do not hate me please, I just want to have a topic here with no broken links and 8 pages of nothing... Thanx for understanding Big size side bags - based on WW2 side bags from some old BMW motorcycle, or so I have been told... I did promise to make more videos and I will, as soon as get my workshop in shape... Here is a short one you have already seen... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuWgs5ud4Mk&feature=youtu.be

Feels comfortable working with cowhides, calfskin and mainly furs and pelts. This is for a small project making fur/ pelt/ cowhides bags and vests. It just a couple of items. If you are interested please send me pictures of your work... If you are not in Chicago, let me know your price per bag (an estimate of course based on the picture), I will provide everything (linen, leather, hardware, thread, etc) and if its something that I can work through with shipping back/ forth, I will have a deal.
  22. Hi There, Here is the video tutorial: I have used a thin baby calf veg tanned leather, I love this choice for small leather goods as I was looking for something sturdy but no too thick. As usual I stitched it with linen thread from fil au chinois in size 432 and used a Blanchard #8 pricking irons. You could go for smaller pricking iron and smaller thread but I quite like the authentic look of the fat stitching look gives to the product. Using natural veg tanned leather means the leather is going to age nicely and gain a nice patina... can't wait to see how... I will start using it from today and do another post in a couple of months so your guys can see the difference! Download patterns and watch videos on my website: https://am-leathercraft.com/
