  1. Hey all, I’m just getting started with my first project and would like second opinions on needle and thread. machine: Techsew 2750 leather: 2 to 2.5 oz. chrome tan seam stitching only, no top stitching goal: longevity upholstery project that will sit near a window (some uv exposure?) I had been thinking size 138 bonded nylon thread with 135x16 diamond pt number 23 needles. Now wondering if that’s overkill. I have only sewn fabric with home machines before so any feedback on needle and thread selection is greatly appreciated- especially specific brands to look for or avoid. Thanks!
  2. Hello ! I just bought a Bonis A18. My grandfather was a furrier and I watched him a lot while working when I was a kid. While trying the machine, I saw it was skipping some stitches. When doing manual the 1st stitches were good and then only 1 / 2 or 3, and none with the electrical motor. I tried to change the thread but didn't change anything except I broke the needle (292 serie). I think my threading is good. I have found a way to buy new needles (bought 3 different sizes 16, 18 & 20, but doesn't know what size to chose...). I would like to know what can I do to fix the stitiching problem, if anybody as an idea
  3. have an old champion cobbler sewing machine, hook and awl Does anyone know where I can find hook needle and awl for this machine
  4. HI to all, I would like assistance please, on combinations that could be used with needles threads and material, with a Singer 7-33 sewing machine, The Singer 7-33 not to sure whether for nylon ,canvas , leather and type, buffing wheels and 7x1 7x2 7x3 7x4 needles` there`s is so much mixed literature Iv read on this machine, its confusing to what is correct and to what you can get away with, I would like to know what are the correct needles and threads with the right material and how thick, please if any one could advice, Also, what other people know they have gotten away with using on the needles thread and material and thickness that worked well for them on this machine, please
  5. Hi guys, I have 5 boxes of 100 - NOS vintage Singer round point (standard) size 20 needles made in Germany. This is more than I could ever use, so... Im asking $20 for 1 box of 100 needles plus shipping. Let me know if you are interested.
  6. I have recently bought a juki lu1510, my purpose is to sew thicker multi layer leather garments with it (such as a layered leather corset, mediaeval leather gambeson, maybe some experimental shoe making). It is the 6th sewing machine in my collection but first industrial machine and I'm having trouble understanding the thread specs (what each number means) and sourcing appropriate thread that matches my needles. I found the needles I needed from schmetz and got some nm130, 140 and 160. Could anyone help me find the thread I'm looking for? If anyone also has a supplier they recommend, I'm based in the UK. It may well be to do with the fact I only half know what I'm looking for, but I don't seem to find many stockists of heavier thread. Manufacturer specifications: Needles- 135×17 (at the time of delivery) (Nm160) Nm125~Nm180 Thread- #30~#5, B46~B138, Nm=60/3~20/3

  9. I just bought a Consew 206rb and I'm in the process of getting it ready for leatherwork. Studying all the great posts on this site it looks like I will mostly use size 138 thread for much of what I want to do. Looking at the Groz Beckert guide, it looks like I want the LR points to approximate the look of a saddle stitch but I can't seem to find the size 22 (for the 138 thread) in stock anywhere online. Searching this forum it appears to be a common problem. That said, can anyone recommend a different manufacturer that makes a similar slanted point in that size? Thanks!
  10. Hi all, I have a singer 44-81 glove machine, the one that sews and trims the leather close to the sewn edge. The Singer manual states it uses 16 x 97 Needles and I can not locate any. I’ve tried my local sources only to be told they have never heard of this size. Does anyone have a lead on needles or any assistance they could offer up. It would be much appreciated as I have this machine to make falconry gloves and I’m really looking forward to seeing what it can achieve. Thanks in advance!

  13. Hello, Can someone tell me if the needles I use in a Juki 1541S can be used in a Pfaff 335 clone? 134-35 & 135 x 16: Are they compatible? Thank you! Silverd
  14. Hey hey! I've recently bought a great little Adler 69-72/E 42. The previous owner had no idea what it was, and therefore was not much of a help with anything at all. There is one needle that came with the machine, a - Schmetz 120. I want to get more needles and I know I want them to be LR leather, so that my stitches have angle to them. Any help would be great, I have looked on lots of websites and all I seem to find is that the Adler 69's use the 134 system? Thanks!
  15. I recently bought a Cowboy Cb4500 and could not be happier with it. I got 277 thread with the machine and two sizes of needles 180/24 and 200/25, in 7x4 Diameter, the 180/24 for if I use the 277 on lighter leathers, but I was looking at perhaps getting some 138 thread thread for some lighter leather projects. On Cobra's website I seen they had some 135x8 that can go up to size 22 needle for use with 138 thread. I was curious what the difference in 7x4 and 135x8 needles in leatherpoints are? I figured I would just order 7x4 in size 23 for 138 thread, but was curious what the difference in the two types of needles are?
  16. Hi i'm looking for needles for JUNKER & RUH SD 28. If some have needles or where to find them, I'm very interested in buying them. I live in Denmark so I'm looking for someone who will send the needles to Denmark. Hope to hear from someone. Best regards to all
  17. Just wanted to share this one: Protons stitcher, exceptional 2 needle system, one from up, one from down below the stitching plate. Used for heavy footwear like military boot uppers. Up for sale minutes from my place. I don't have space anymore...
  18. Hello all, I just picked up my first sewing machine, an old Singer 78-3. It seems to be in good functional order, but the prior owner only did upholstery. It came with a ton of standard point needles, but none of the cutting point needles for leather. Looking at the manual, it says the needle variety is "16x100" for leatherwork. I have not been able to find these anywhere, and none of the compatibility tables I have found list alternatives. Does anyone have experience with what needles this machine takes, or can point me in the direction of where to find the old 16x100 type? I would like to run up to the 138 thread I have read that this machine is capable of, which sounds like either a size 22 or 23, correct? Thanks!
  19. I am looking for any help with my search for needles and a manual for a Singer 5-9, The photo does not do the scale justice, It weights at least 500lbs. It is 4 feet wide. It is much larger than the class 7 but has a similar bobbin, but i don't own a class 7 so I am not sure how close the bobbin holder is. I guess I am looking for someone who has a class 5 machine or any direction to point me. Which industrial sewing store might know about this machine? Thank you for letting me post my question here. i found this old book in the Smithsonian on-line archive but this doesn't help me enough to find an equivalent needle.
  20. I didn't expect this hunt for needles to be as difficult as it is turning out to be. I have recently acquired an Adler 30-7, long arm, big bobbin, high lift patcher. I got exactly one pack of System 332 LG #22 needles with it. Since then I have been trying to find a place to order various sizes in 10 packs of leather point (332 LG: L point), to no avail (in the USA). I did find a source for a boxes of 100 (Adler Durkopp Corp), in one size per box, which is way beyond my needs. So, if any of you (in the USA) own an Adler 30-7 or 30-70, where do you currently buy your leather point needles in 10 packs? I am mainly seeking #19 and #23. I would even settle for #20 and #23. I will gladly buy these needles privately is anybody has extra packs to spare. I can PayPal you (verb). Please don't confuse the System 332 LG with just 332. They are radically different lengths.
  21. A well tuned and maintained inexpensive Chinese patcher is my best friend. I own and use an Adler 67gk373, a Tippmann Boss, the chinese patcher from Bantam Saddle and Tack, a Stewart awl, and Mckay jerk needles as well as two-needle saddle stitch stuff. I recently found that I can use universal home machine needles as well as 15x2s. You dont have to use hard to find needles. No experimenting required. Last job was done with 69 poly and schmetz 110/18 needles puchased at walmart. Also DP 5s and PFX134LR.
  22. Looking for size 27 needles for a 132k6 machine. Preferably a 10 pack as machine is used rarely. Any suppliers in US.
  23. Hi Everyone, I am looking for help with a needle dilemma I purchased a old Singer 144WSV37 according to all the materials I have read this machine should take a 7 x 3 needle but I bought some and they are too long for the machine. The machine came with only one needle and I cannot read the print on it even with magnifiers. Could I ask y'all to take a look at the needles in the picture? The longer one is a 7 x 3 Organ needle next to it is the needle out of the Singer it is about 1/3 inch shorter... I am stumped could it be a 7 x 19 size 27 needle? I am in desperate need of needles HEEEEEELLLLLPPP! Thank you Bryn
  24. My father is a retired industrial sewing machine mechanic. He has an array of needles. 794 size 250, 230, and 160. About two dozen 10-packs of size 250. One dozen 10-packs each of 230s and 160s. $15 a pack; we can work on discounts for bulk orders reply if interested. (And if you happen to be in metro Phoenix area, you can can shop the needle selection yourself. There are other hard-to-finds in his shop.)
  25. I have just spent a long time trying to find out if Schmetz do a particular needle- a 794 s point in a 160 or 180 size. Their "system" of putting all the needle sizes under different "departments", according to industry type and material is maddening. The most useful folders they have are the "saddlers" one, and the "leather shoes and footwear" ones.I eventually realized that what I wanted was available by looking at US websites, which actually listed the size. Then I went back to looking at the lists. Groz Beckert, on the other hand, do not have any sort of useable online needle size catalog- you have to be a dealer to have access to one,.Grrrr!!
