  2. Hi Everyone, I am pretty new to this and still learning tricks of the trade, honestly the reason I got into it was all because I was searching for a pair of nice pair of soft sole moccasins and couldn’t find ones I like so, I decided I would make my own. My first attempt honestly did not go well I learned a lot about what not to do and things I can do differently second pair was made from pieces of suede I found at hobby lobby, I can’t count how many times I stitched ,unstitched ,modified my pattern and did it again, after about 2 weeks of working on them on and off I was finally done, and I’m pretty sure I work them consistently the entirety of the whole COVID lockdown, my next few pairs were for my girlfriend and at the time 2 children. After wearing them around for sometime people started to show some interest in them and I had a few requests for some custom designs ( side note, I don’t know about you guys but the moment you hand the finished product to the customer is absolutely terrifying, but seeing the reactions when they saw them and put them on was one of the coolest feelings I have ever felt, since then I haven’t had a lot of time but I managed to make a few other pairs I still need to post on to my Reddit which I will link my forum because I have no idea how to get pictures on here haha but any input or advice would be gratefully appreciated, thanks for reading! https://www.reddit.com/r/BessMoccasins/
  3. Used 2x and has extra cutting board and tipping tubes. Turn out professional-level belts and straps 1" to 2" (25 to 51 mm) wide and up to 15 oz. (6.0 mm) with one pull of the handle. This heavy-duty machine uses 4 tons(562 kg/cm) of compression force to cut four holes, buckle slot and point at either tip of a belt. The dual measurement gauge and rear fence stop allow for precise cutting of buckle holes and strap ends, resulting in a symmetrical, perfectly tipped belt strap every time. Billet end cutting die, buckle head cutting die, #3973-15 Tipping Cutting Board, two-part operating handle, replacement tubes and instructions included. Measures 11-3/4" x 16-1/2" x 29-1/2" (300 x 419 x 741 mm). B9E28638-586E-408E-BBB2-B6E6518688AA.webp

    Mr

Hi guy, I'm fairly new to this. Got my first stcjing pony today. I'm so excited to start making some quality stuff. My pony came with some padding, some stretchy, shiny stuff. I guess my first question is, should I use the pieces given or just use veg tan scraps or chrome tan scraps? My second is how do I attach it. I was thinking using some glue that I have, but if I'm being honest I don't know if it's contact cement or what. I thought that it wouldn't be a good idea to use too strong of a glue either, for replacement purposes. Thanks in advance.
  5. Purchased fall 2019 from Techsew. I am cutting material that is to soft for machine I couldn’t get it to cut correct( all mechanical parts non electronic with machine. ) . 6. Hello! I am an amateur handbag crafter. I currently make bags out of salvaged sails, salvaged horse tack, and cast off marine vinyl as well as waxed canvas. My work is usually a mix of fabrics. You can see samples on my Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/saphaeron/, and find me on Instagram #calypsorecreations. I would like to understand leather work much better than I do. I’d like to incorporate more leather into my designs as well. I’m currently also looking for a cylinder arm machine that can keep up with my pattern ideas, but that won’t break the bank! I currently sew on a Viking 6270 and a Sailrite LSZ-1. I push them both to the limit (or a bit beyond). I look forward to the opportunity to learn from you all!
  7. I am new to the forum. Like to start leather crafts purely for personal need. Primarily watch straps. I am watch collector and hobby-watch makers. This is an effort to be self supplier of my own leather demands.
  8. Hi, I am selling a load of BRAND NEW Vergez blanchard tools as well as an Osborne punch set and Japanese punch. All the items are in pristine condition, and need to go. 9. I want to thank everyone here for allowing me to become a member. I have just gotten back into working with leather after a long time away from it. I have already made a few things, cross draw gun belt, standard gun belt, and a wallet for my wife. Thanks for the chance to show off what I have made and to see the quality of work others do.
  10. So, just more curious how people start to finish there projects. Working on a set of spur straps.. and I am hand stitching it. Would you make your groove and stitch marks before you dye it? or after? Do you glue the front piece to the lined piece before stamping or after? How do you do your steps when making something?
  11. Well, decided to look up any forums I could find on leather working, and luckily this one is still in use. Wanted to say hi from the outdoor state of Idaho. I have been into leather most of my life, but only within the last year, maybe not even that long did I start working with leather. I use to think my classic vehicles took all my money, now.....leather working does. I mostly do projects for myself, a few for family members, and have done two commissions so far for friends. In all honesty, I have not done many projects all together. But since family and friends seem to like what I do, I guess I am alright at it, but there are so many more things that I could be better at or that I have not learned how to do yet. So I am here to get help, as well as provide any help I can give with what little I know. Adding a couple of projects to this post. one of my personal archery bracer which I love how it turned out. The other is a fancy collar for my girl Saya (sigh-ya).
  12. Hello, I am looking at buying my second sewing machine and need help, I have never used a machine before so I am looking for something that's user friendly has a servo motor and a speed reducer. I had bought a jack sewing machine over a year ago paid $1850.00 for it and never been able to use it, can't figure out how to thread properly I had it threaded once before and it sewed but the it had a bird's nest on the bottom of the leather never been able to fix that, now when sewing it does about 2 stitches and the top thread breaks so I don't know if it's still bird nest's on the bottom the machine has become such a head ache that it just sits there. There's no youtube video's on it I called and e-mailed the company I bought it from and no help was given from them at all so I e-mailed the manufacturer with no help at all from them either. I know I need a walking foot industrial and I have it figured out down to 2 machines the cobra class 4 and the cowboy 4500 price wise both machines are the same for the package I am looking at. I make a large variety of products mainly use veg tan, english bridle and suede for lining. I need to be able to sew from 2 oz to about 18 oz. I have chosen these 2 machines because they are cylinder base with flat table accessory when needed and have a throat length of 16 1/2 as I make anywhere from wallets, bags, holsters etc. I would like input on these machines and how well they do the job I need. What are the pros and cons and what are the experiences people have with the company they bought it from. Any help is greatly appreciated thank you in advance.

  15. Hi, I started learning to work with leather recently. I've learned some on my own but I know there are the right ways and in some cases easier ways to do things. I've made some leather bags, cuffs, keychains, pattern weights I live in Norwalk CT and I'm looking for classes or a leatherworker willing to show me skills in New York City or Fairfield County, CT. Below is what I've learned and what I know I know nothing about. Please let me know if you know of someone or ask them to respond to my posting. 16. I’m a Newbie to This Arena And Want to Buy Some Tools That Will Last For Quite a While. I want to get a skiver/splitter. Have Heard Much About Osborne 84 And 86. I Also Recognize There Are Many Others Out There That Are Similar. I Don’t Mind Spending The Money to Get a New Osborne 84 But I’m Wondering if it Would be a Better Idea For me to Get an Vintage One And Get it Cleaned up or Even Another Brand /model. Any suggestions would be very grateful.
  17. Hello, i am just starting out and i figured out real fast that this is a VERY expensive hobby starting up, but I've found and made some things to cut cost that i wanted to share with yal to help out, ill label whats free, and what i payed for and how much. 1. FREE... wine box from any liquor store.just ask them if they have one to give to you, they just throw them out. Makes a tool holder, storage box.. anything you want, just be creative. 2. CHEAP...Bar soap containers. 1$ at walmart... for holding all your small stuff you want to keep separate. Like the swivel knife and stamps. 3. CHEAP/FREE.Trash bags/walmart bags. Used to lay down under leather when dying. Be careful with walmart bags though, alot of times they'll have holes and not as flat. CHEAP... tool storage boxes.. bought a pack of 4 of them at walmart for 9 bucks. Good for keeping things organized. FREE/CHEAP... old white t-shirts.. instead of throwing away the old white work shirts. Keep them cut them up. 18. My buddy and I had an idea to make an over-sized swing arm bag (big enough to hold his leather jacket and a few other things). We came up with an idea and then I headed off to the garage to make one. I started with a rough template I made. Late into the project I noticed a piece of the leather damaged that ended up on the flap Because of the way the bag expands I need to figure out a better way to secure it to the bike. I tested it the other day and the fit is nice, but the flap still needs some polishing. I would love to hear your thoughts on addressing this issue.

  22. I bout the machine "like new" last March, and it still is...I used it only twice to practice stitching a belt, but then life kinda got hectic and never got around to using it again. Then, from Texas, I moved to Alabama and the machine has been stored this whole time...and yes, It is fully assembled, you can see it run and test it out before purchase. Ok, as for price....I have 3 options for you to consider... 1. $2700, my price of the machine INCLUDING my whole investment of merchandise for my attempted leather business (lol), which values at approx. $3500-$4000 at least..ALL purchased from Tandy Leather......THIS consists of NEW HUGE spools of thread*, NEW dyes and some used bottles of different color dyes, conditioner/gloss, NEW tools (multiple size punches, riveting kits, jewel setters, marker, hand carver, etc) , NEW conchos, jewels, eyelets, NEW belt buckles, LOTS of NEW UNUSED RAW leather belts, NEW belt loops AND tips, NEW packages of daubbers, 3/4" ALPHABET LETTER Leather punch set, guides, and maybe something I'm missing but whatever it is, its included! lol 2. $2500, price of the machine, spools of thread, and I will allow you to pick a few other things you might immediately need...To be discussed 3. $2250 machine only, and yes, the thread...I wouldn't want to sell you a machine without AT LEAST having that to get started *If I cannot find the thread at that moment, I WILL send it to you...Off hand, at this very moment, I can't recall where it is stored but I do have them Please consider these options and let me know how you feel, I do want to let it go, for someone else to use and benefit from so once you contact me, we can talk and see what will better accommodate each other because I have other business venture plans as well love... thank you for your time! Hope to speak with you soon!!! #GodBless

  25. I have been having some trouble cutting round corners and circles out of leather. Right know I have a utility knife, which works good for cutting straight lines for the most part, and an x acto style knife, which I have been using for cutting corners. The x acto is too flimsy and tends to bend when I am cutting corners, making the cut at an angle, most of the time. I would like a knife that is that same style, but with a sturdier blade that wont bend. Anyone have any suggestions? I almost bought this knife, but decided I better ask for some advice before doing so: http://usaknifemaker.com/industrial-knife-set-especially-designed-for-leather.html#.U785SajPmO0 Thanks, Zayne
