  1. Hi! I'm totally new to this machine- I usually sew for a sheepskin tannery on the isle of Skye in Scotland using a one thread overlocker, and at home using domestic machines. My workplace is shut indefinitely due to bleedin covid19, but they've given me loan of a Seiko Stw 8b to see if I can make use of it if and when I go back. I've looked at several grainy manuals online for it, and I think I've neeeaarrly got it going... Its been sitting untouched in an office for ages so I've oiled it, changed the needle- I'm worried I've made a mistake somewhere threading it, and also worried the timing might be out maybe- if it was one of my machines at home I would change the needle and rethread.. any advice would be amazing! I've attached pictures of the wonky stitching and my probably wonky threading. Cheers!
  2. Hallo everyone. I want a buy that Seiko sewing machine. Does anyone know what a type or model is? Unfortunately, there is no number or symbol on it. I don't know where to look for the manual and information on it. I'd appreciate your help. Greetings. Mike
  3. I just picked up a nice used seiko lsc-8bv in Bangkok. Great place for cheap used machines! Its a binding cylinder bed (I believe it is the same machine as the consew 277) and I’d like to convert it to a standard machine - something akin to the seiko lsc-8b. Leather keeps catching on the binder needle plate. Can I just swap the needle plate for the non-binding type plate? It seems I can’t as the feed dog mechanism appears to be completely different. I’d be grateful for any guidance anyone might have on this type of conversion. Thanks!
  4. Hi All, I am ordering my first industrial compound feed cylinder arm machine, the SEIKO LSC-8B-2! While I have done my fair share of research of this machine, It would be great to hear of ANY advice dedicated to this model to assist me or anyone else interested in this machine in the future. Now, I was in a dilemma on which model to get; the 8B-2 (standard sewing) or 8BV-2 (sychronised binder). I asked SEIKO Japan via email if 8BV-2 can do standard sewing and sync binding, and the response I got was: "In LSC-8BV-2 case, sewing may be difficult by material" ...I suppose LSC 8BV-2 is intended for sync binding only/primarily. However, my local sales advisor said LSC 8BV-2 can do standard sewing and sync binding (I was wary of this answer, perhaps the advisor just wanted me to buy the higher priced model...). I wanted a machine that can do both 'modes' professionally. I want to get the most from a single machine and buying two machines is not viable at the moment; money and space does not allow! ...So I did my own youtube research of both models... There are a few youtube sewing demos of SEIKO LSC 8B-2. As well as LSC 8BV-2, that demonstrates standard sewing (no sync binding operation in sight) and it looks perfect; stitch quality and material feeding are agreeable! At this point, I was conflicted with what I have been told and what I have seen. However, I made my final decision based on SEIKO Japan agent's advice and got the LSC 8B-2. I also read another thread from this website in regards to the difference between sync binding and standard models which also informed my decision. Has anyone else been in this position? Or can a specialist provide any advice? Machine aside, can anyone provide advice for: Swing away binder Where can I buy it online? Any advice with installing? Flatbed attachment Where can I buy it online? I asked my local sales advisor about this attachment and was quoted $1,300 AUD for it... Ridiculous! Suspending edge guide Where can I buy it online? I asked my local sales advisor about this attachment and was quoted $430 AUD for it. There must be a less expensive option... I have searched ebay already for these items with mixed results. Hence my reaching out to any LSC 8B-2 specialists here to provide a direct lead to compatible and fair-priced pieces. Hopefully this thread can demystify this machine. I look forward to any responses. Kind regards Rod
  5. I have acquired a Seiko cw8b and looking to find a binder attachment to fit it. Any help please?

  7. Hello, Anyone know of any Canadian suppiers selling Seiko sewing machines? Thank you
  8. I have a new (to me) Seiko SK-2B-1-20, long arm walking foot machine and have trouble-shot everything I can - set the hook timing, needle bar height, adjusted feed dog & presser foot. It's working okay. This is my first time using an industrial machine - I have used many small machines. I'm using this machine for sewing books - sewing through about 3/8" thick paper. I can do this work on my old Singer, but the stitch length isn't variable, and I needed longer stitches. I also wanted working space for wider books. My question is regarding thread tension and thread weight. I'm trying to use Chinois linen thread, #532 and it keeps breaking. It's very hard to pull the thread through the machine, there's just so much tension. If I set the tension any looser, I get loops on the back of my work. I have to use two hands to pull the thread through before starting or at the end of my piece. The mechanisms are all about the same as those on my old Singer, so I don't know why it would require so much more tension to work. I have adjusted the bobbin tension - it's as tight as can be, though the bobbin thread is much looser than the top thread. Is it possible to use this machine with lighter weight thread or does it have to be very thick thread? I'm worried I may have bought the wrong machine. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.
  9. Hi all, I'm looking for a used Seiko walking foot, needle feed machine with reverse and have come across a few model numbers, but need some of your expertise to figure out the differences. So far I have identified the STW 8B, LSW 8BL, LSWN 8BL, STH 8BLD I will be using the machine for Canvas (upto 8 layers) & Leather (2-4mm) mainly. I have a Typical 441 for the really heavy stuff. I have been using the LSWN 8BL in a group I volunteer for and think it's a great machine. I'm looking down the Seiko route as they seem to be excellent quality, plenty of spares and more affordable than the German equivalents, but open to options. Thanks Nick
  10. Hi all! Im looking for a cylinder bed sewing machine in good or new condition. Even better if it has a flat bed attachment. Need it for light to medium work so I was thinking Techsew 2700 or 2800 but I'm open to other models as well. I'll be working mostly with lambskin but also some light to medium veg cowhide as well. I live near Philadelphia Thanks in advance!!!
  11. Good morning all, This is my first post to a very information packed forum !!! Leatherworknet ROCKS !!!! I am venturing out into the world of industrial sewing machines and am finding that Singer made commercial/industrial machines with out a reverse. For leather sewing is a reverse absolutely needed? Thanks, Tom
  12. Can anyone tell me what would cause my stitch length to change on its own? I have a Seiko STH LBD-3, basically the same machine as the Consew 206rb-5. I had my stitch length set to 5.5. Before I began I tested on scrap pieces of leather and all was fine. I notice it seems whenever I encounter a part a little thicker or that has an awkward position the machine changes stitches on it's own. It began sewing at 3 and as I continued to sew it went back to 5.5. Anyone know what happened or why?
  13. Howdy from Farmville, VA! Yes, Farmville is a REAL place:) My husband is a cowboy from TX who enjoys leatherwork, he creates mostly custom tack for our roping horses and can repair just about anything to do with leather. His Singer home machine just broke and we just purchased an old industrial SEIKO machine walking foot and cylinder arm which I believe is a CW-1. It works well but has no paperwork with it. I have been searching for days to find a manual and to try and determine what size needles I should order and what size/type of thread. My husband is old school and did a lot of his work by hand. I need help! Any and all would be appreciated:) I have attached some pics of the machine in case anyone is interested or knows exactly what we have. Thanks!
