  1. Just got back from a trip to Korea. On a day outing in Seoul, we managed to find the neighborhood in the city where leatherwork supplies can be found. It's located on the Western edge of the city, in the neighborhood of Sinseol-dong. Go east of downtown to the Great East Gate (Dongdaemun), where there is a subway stop by the same name. The subway line (line 1) going East from there stops at Dongmyo, and then the stop you want is Sinseol-dong. You can also take a spur of line 2 (the Green line) which terminates at Sinseol-dong. From Sinseol-dong station you need to go up to street level and east to the large intersection, where Choui-ro (east-west) meets Nangye-ro (running north-south). Look at the map below -- follow Nangye-ro SOUTH from the intersection, on the WEST side of the street until you see the smaller road Nangye-ro 27-gil crossing the main street east to west. (You could also get a taxi-driver to drive you to that intersection; as of September 2017 I estimate the taxi fare from the center of Seoul (Seoul station or the downtown palaces) to get here as 4,000 to 10,000 won depending on traffic.) Now you need to turn right and go to the WEST, following Nangye-ro 27-gil. it's not much of a road, more like a wide alley, but don't be fooled. Look at the Google maps road view below -- this is looking NORTH WEST from the intersection of Nangye-ro and Nangye-ro 27-gil. See that blue street sign in the center of the picture? That's what you are looking for. After maybe 50-100 meters you should find the store fronts that sell the stuff you want. Here is a picture of the first one along the line, looking back towards the intersection you just left. It's the small store to the center right, with the silver car in front of it. This first store you see here is full of rivets, decorative and functional. Some map applications in Korea (for smart phones or computers) can use the phone number to locate the store on a map, and the phone number of this shop is 031-528-1626. The other stores start west of this one. Google Maps streetview won't go down there, however. In my 15 minutes of looking I saw at least 3 stores FULL of rivets, grommets, etc. (HUGE bags of them, as well as small ones). One store had nothing but thread, thread, thread and more thread. Leather, buckles, tools, oh my! One store had paint, more sizes of hole punches than I knew existed, needles, thread, templates, and 3 different kinds of stitching ponies (I bought one for 20,000 won). I didn't go very far down the row, but I believe that skivers (big and small) and hides (including tooling) and elec I saw very few stamping and tooling supplies. Lots of leather and hardware, thread and coloring, for bags, clothing, and the like. (skivers, head knives, needles, strap end templates and punches, stitching chisels, etc.
  2. Hi! I'm new here.. I've was wondering if you guys could give me some advise. I've been making leatherwork for 6 years, and I've only shopped in store at my local Tandy leather. I'm realizing that I would like to lower my cost of materials and actually make some money... ( : How are you buying your materials to lower the cost? What store do you like the best? Any help is appreciated!! Lauren
  3. I have about 60 leather hides ranging from 3 square feet to 40 square feet just sitting around. I have barely used most of them and they need to go. Here is a imgur link to see the hide lot. This forum won't allow uploads very large. Sorry in advance https://imgur.com/a/uKE3JHy I am asking for $1500 for the whole lot. No individual sales. You pay shipping if you can't pick it up. I am based out of Minnesota email me if you're interested erik.paulson@outlook.com
  4. Hello, I'm trying to find 104 tubular rivets in the UK, ones that are similar to the rivets from weaver leather supply. I need them in brass and stainless steel but have had no luck so far, if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great! Thank you for the help
  5. Hi, i am new to the craft of leather and would appreciate guidance to determine what tools I should get, as well as the manufacturer. (Tandy, CraftPro, Robert Beard, Barry King?) I live in south Florida and considered purchasing swivel knife and basic tools from Tandy, but upon reading posts, I would prefer to invest a bit more money now and save in the end I am making a leather bible cover with the image found here https://cdn.tandyleather.com/media/downloads/2019-02-28-Floral-Messenger-Bag.pdf?fbclid=IwAR1LJNUlkIsgbVp1kPz8qtV-J0GwqkkvPE_KHI4guw_JFmcC_N3LBZaoOSM I would value your expertise in speaking to the specific size tool and manufacturer(s). Possibly it is important to get a higher end swivel knife and basic tools from Tandy? I just don’t know I prefer to write with thin barrel pens, and thus possibly a smaller diameter swivel is what I should get? Not sure why so many diameters are offered on Barry King’s site, nor do I know what size blade to get. I will utilize open table at Tandy and thus don’t need to buy ALL the tools listed for that design Thus I really need some assistance. Specific swivel knife, starter tools/beginner tools to get, manufacturer for each and the size (if options are given) Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with me. Abby
  6. I just acquired a Consew 206RB-3 in near mint condition for $250.00 and am beside myself excited! I have not used a walking foot machine prior to this and am wondering about any and all things related to it. I am thinking a Servo motor might be the way for me to go but don't know what model or where to purchase? I am planning on sewing heavier fabrics and leather. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on most of which has been online. I do have operators manuals for ever Consew 206RB except the 3, (my model of course). I have gone over the entire machine and everything seems to be working as it should. I'm not certain but it looks like the oil wicks on the top of the machine may have gotten shredded, (I've included some photos). I have been searching online for replacement oil wicks and haven't found any. Does anyone have a source for those? Also are there supposed to be any wicks in or around the needle bar area? Is there anyone out there that lives in the Lexington, Kentucky or Ohio that may have sources for supplies like thread, needles and etc., or even online sources that can help someone like myself new to this kind of machine? Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Thanks, Heidi ,
  7. Hi everyone, I'm a 24 year old girl from Austria/Europe and started playing around with leather a year ago! My resent project was a bosal - made with the book and supplies from Gail Hought, material was kangaroo leather. I'm somewhat satisfied with the result und would like to continue learning braiding bosals, preferably I would like to stick to kangaroo for a while as I've found I was confident with braiding with it. However, I have no idea where to get supplies here in Europe. I would also need some rawhide to build the inner core. For all other projects where I only needed some skirting leather, I've ordered from "SoftArtLeder" https://www.softart-leder-shop.de/btc/ but they do only carry one color of kangaroo (black). Where do you European guys order your bosal supply? Do you think I can start with some other leather types provided by SoftArtLeder for the beginning? Any tip is highly appreciated!! With best regards, Christina
  8. We make a couple of hundred gunbelts a year. They're extremely heavy duty and made of top-quality bridle leather, veg-tan and kydex. We've been buying our buckles from Buckleguy, which has very high-quality, handcast buckles of solid brass. The problem is they don't have a very wide selection. I'd love to get some buckles that are a little more elegant, or even some that are forged steel or graphite. But I cannot find other wholesale sources that are of similar quality. I've looked at Ohio Travel Bag, but their quality is all over the place. Where can I find some really cool, high-quality buckles?
  9. Lot of thread/misc supplies for sale! Annual clean out my studio time, so just wanna pass these items on to someone who might use them! 11 semi-used spools of waxed polyester thread from Maine Thread Co. (0.02") Various colors 1 lb unused cone no 69 thread, Tan polyester 1 lb barely used cone no 92 thread, Black polyester 1/4lb used cone no 92 thread, Forest Green polyester Glue pot w/ brush. Would recommend buying replacement brush head, but used one is included. Package of glove snaps, nickel plate. between 50-100 sets. Thread snips Must take whole lot. $40 including US shipping.
  10. I'm really confused with needle and thread sizing for this machine (the whole system really) so if anyone could explain or point me in the right direction regarding a few questions I have that would be greatly appreciated. I've found a great post on here from 2015 which is awesome and I've found an array of needles at https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/freight-charges-explained/ 1/ Can I use round point needles for this machine? The needle type is 134-35 LR. Does 135 mean it's a thicker needle? 2/ The thread type is synthetic 40/3 according to the manual of a newer model but I've only seen the thread types in Australia as M20/M25/M8 with no other details. I bought a cotton-poly M20 but it's much too thick for the one needle that came with the machine (Organ 20 on the shank) but I don't know what the equivalent of 40/3 is (which I understand is the twist and cord number) and can I use cotton-poly? 3/ I'd love an Australian supplier of both needles and thread! The M type thread I can get from Birdsall (Syd) and Qld Wholesale Canvas (QLD), I got my thread from QWC.

  13. Hello everyone, Have anyone used metal plates on their leatherwork? I do see them riveted on belts and bags but have no clue what are they're called professionally, and only advice i got in hardware store is to order a big plate and cut it to my size. I dont have necessary tools to do that, so would be great if you guys could point me the right direction or at least enlighten me what thiss bloody thing is called i attach pic of what type of plates i mean. many thanks in advance xx maya
  14. I just received my order from S-T Leather. They have the Best prices for supplies, ex., : rivets , snaps, all Fiebings products etc. Where else can you get 100 large solid brass rivets for $ 4.70 ? I just had to let my fellow leather workers know where to get supplies at good price.
  15. Greetings, I'm a NEWBIE & am looking for recommendations on a good starter kit. I mostly want to get into making cases, holsters, sheathes, purses & bags, and MAYBE do a little stamping/design work... I DONT want to run down to Tandy Leather and by a 'Starter Kit" that I'll outgrow in a short while - I'd prefer to by quality tools that will last & am asking if anyone could make some suggestions on what I should get first, or if there is a 'kit' out there that is of excellent quality & has what I need to really get started - Thanks, RussInVegas
  16. Anyone know where the good place to go for hides/tools/hardware/etc is in or around Brooklyn, NY? I see I can catch a 2hr+ commute to to Nyack to find a Tandy. Google shows a few arts and craft places I'm about to go explore, but I'm skeptical. Anyone got any pointers? Thanks!
  17. Hi Everyone, I have been slowly working my way into a better quality of tooling leather, unfortunately the price increases as well. I have been pretty partial to the European Bends from tandy. The quality of leather is very good with little to no flaws in the leather. My question is, i am looking for a comparable quality of tooling leather for a lower cost. What does everyone use for tooling leather? Thank you KB Custom leather
  18. I have not logged in for a long time...and when I did I saw some very outdated posts and information about our company. Here's the deal: YEP! we've been in business for a very long time. YEP! Ray still works here (40 years) and knows his shiz! YEP! I'm still actively managing operations here (only 16 years)! YEP! We still have live people answering the phone, who are really nice and helpful! NOPE! We are not running our business the same as we did 20,10 or even 5 years ago! YEP! We are still a wholesale distributor, with an easy qualification process and a $30 minimum order (NOT $75). YEP! WHAT? We now happily offer RETAIL PRICING. We are adding new products every day. YEP! We heard your feedback and OTB will launch a new "better user experience" website this November, with many enhancements and it will be mobile friendly. Please contact me with any questions and I welcome the opportunity to respond to any comments or feedback, even positive ones. All my best jackie@ohiotravelbag.com http://www.ohiotravelbag.com
  19. I've slowed down on my leather workering a bit and now when I use veg tan, I don't dye it. Luckily for you guys I have quite a bit of dye left that I want to move off the shelf. I'll add pictures so you can see how much is left in each bottle, but the two colors I have British Tan and Light Brown (which actually translates to a nice medium on leather). Both of these would cost you over 50 dollars new including shipping. I'm looking to sell theese for $35 with Free Shipping. The pictures are too big to upload here, but here's the link to imgur. http://imgur.com/a/lv9Sp
  20. Hi all! I'm Victor from Hong Kong. I will come to Perth as working holiday in Oct. I would like to work on something related to leather industry to support my journey. Can anyone please give me some advice? Thanks!
  21. I've been doing research but have come up empty—does anyone know a resource for american-made antique brass (sometimes called antique bronze) split key rings? Trying to buy 50-100 pieces.
  22. I have been asked to make a custom camera for a customer. They want it to have a carabiner with a locking mechanism like this one but with different measurements. Any idea where I can find a dozen or more of these? I check Ohio Travel Bag, Buckle Guy, Etsy, ect.
