  1. Here is a wallet I finished a little while back (side note: I won’t be stamping Dublin again) Tell me what you think!?!?!
  2. When I burn 0.6 tiger thread ends it leave's a black mark rather than a clear blob of melted thread, how do i stop this, other threads seem to be a cleaner melt
  3. At this very moment, I have a shopping cart full of various colors and thicknesses of Tiger thread at Abbey England. I understand that Abbey England is a great supplier, but shipping costs are outrageous. It only makes sense to buy as much variety as I can afford in order to "save" on shipping. That said, I really would rather not have $200+ tied up in THREAD(!) at this time. Are there seriously no comparable alternatives to Tiger thread available here in the United States of America?! Bruce Cheaney, a saddle maker in Texas, highly recommended Trencilo. I also found this (http://www.sheridanleather.com/Braided_Poly_Thread_p/braided-pound-thread.htm) which might be the same stuff. It appears to only come in white. I appreciate any input you care to share. Best, David
  4. I understand that Tiger thread is probably the original 0.5 to 1mm Polyester sewing thread, but it comes at a price; and only vast size rolls, so sold in smaller sizes by flat cardboard wraps There are now plenty of seemingly other makes far cheaper, available from the far East; and I wonder how they stand up to Tiger in strength; and in the sunshine for long life It's easy to say Tiger is good as I always have used it, but have people used the Far Eastern threads and found them lacking in anything, apart from number of colours available at this time Price does not always mean a higher quality, over a lower price, sometimes just more profit for the maker
  5. This is a sheath I enjoy making and it has proven to be efficient design that stays out of the way of a side arm or a backpack. Comments are welcome. Hoping each of you are doing well. Scott
  6. Okay so everybody that uses tiger thread let's see if you can tell me the difference between what I purchased and and the true Tiger thread which was also a verified purchase! and here's two more pix So let's hear it if you use tiger thread please chime in!
  7. I am essentially giving away these hand tools, caranuba wax, tiger thread, strap cutter, etc. Must take everything pictured. Over $300 total value. You pay $25.00 plus $15.00 shipping and it's yours.
  8. This case is similar to others I have made but this time I used harness leather. It's W&C 8 oz. harness in tan. It was quite flexible for 8 oz. thickness, I was very pleased with it. I stitched it with 1.2mm tiger thread at 6 spi. I used a 1 1/4' Cobra buckle. They are very strong and reliable. I attached my handle from underneath the top. I don't like handles connected with billets on the top of the bag. I have seen too many of them pull away from the bag over time. I would not say it is elegant but it certainly is rugged. I
  9. I am looking for about 25-50 yards of the blue 0.6mm Tiger Thread. I have a lot of other threads, and I am willing to trade straight across for any of them that you would need. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=62632&hl= Thanks! YinTx
  10. Hi all, I have been using Ritza tiger thread since starting up in leather work but have recently been trying out some Fil Au Chinois as there are many people who prefer this thread. The issue I have is keeping the thread in the needle, with tiger thread I can lock it in by threading the needle and then using the needle to pierce the thread and creating a knot around the eye of the needle, Fil Au Chinois is too thin and does not have a flat edge like tiger thread does, so more or less every time I pull the tension on each stitch the thread will come out of the needle, unless I have a huge amount of thread to pull through each time which would ultimately waste thread. Thanks! Ross
  11. If you're looking to order from Abbey England via their web site, there's currently an issue. They just updated their payment processor software to the 3.0 version, and we know how that stuff goes. Just ask anyone with an older computer upgrading to Windows 10.0. The issue I just ran into was that my account has the correct address info, but when you get to SagePay, the billing address country is silently changed to GB. I say silently because it's not until you get to the very last page after entering your CC# that two addresses show up at the bottom of the page, hidden behind collapsed +'s that need to be clicked to see the address in the first place. Poor design if you ask me. But needless to say, credit card companies don't like it much when you don't seem to know what country you live in. So.. after two days of back-and-forth, I just finally got off the phone with Abbey England. The only resolutions until they fix their site is a phone call from someone over there to take a CC number over the phone, or do a bank-to-bank transfer which can take up to three days. So here is the trick... If you use Visa, it won't let you finish the checkout process. It just fails. If you use AMEX, however, it will fail AFTER the site says the order went through, and they'll contact you when it finally does fail. Then they can call you and take payment over the phone. Or you can just call them and do the whole order and payment over the phone. On your dime. International rates apply. Ugh. Cheers, as they say over there. -Sean

  13. Hello All, I couldn't find an option to edit or delete my prior post, so I'm putting another here. In short, I wanted to ensure I was giving a good price on my excess ritza thread, and after a bit of poking around the web tubes I found a few other people giving comparable or slightly better rates. So I added a bunch of length to my original prices to make sure I was giving the most competitive options for ritza. Any way, the rates work out to the following: $3.5 @ 15 yd, or 3 colors @ 15 yds each for $9 $7 for 40 yds $17 for 120 yds https://www.etsy.com/listing/240689473/lowest-price-10mm-ritza-25-tiger-thread?ref=shop_home_active_1 I'm open to anyone's thoughts on this pricing if it seems unreasonable from what other folks might be offering.
  14. Hey guys, finished up another color combo of my military inspired weekender duffle bag. Inspired by the Navy sea bag and an army duffle this weekender carry on is anything but the ordinary luggage. Selvage canvas from the esteemed White Oak factory of Cone Mills in North Carolina. Leather is veggy tanned Hermann Oak #1. The color combo came out really nice. Canvas is a warm grey, sort of in the "dogwood" range. Leather was undercoated in tan, then top coated in dark brown for a very deep brown with a hint of reddish tone to it. Does anyone else use 2 different colors when dying leather? Solid brass hardware, and hand saddle stitched with havana brown tiger thread 0.8 mm. Canvas is finished with an outer layer of otter wax. Top closure is an envelope style folded closure that has some range to fill it all the way up or not so much. Inside large pocket and "hanging" dopp YKK zip bag for personal items. Would love your input on the leather work, but overall style comments are welcomed too.

  16. Don't know if anyone is interested but I know for some reason I had a hard time finding stitching thread for hand sewing. You can find Barbours 18/3 unwaxed thread in a large spool(over 900 yds) at Campbell-Randall Machinery---really great folks to deal with. Or if you want a smaller spool you can get a 172 yd spool from Gaylord Archival. Tiger thread can be bought here in the states from Ludlow Leather by the spool or you can find it by the 25yd sample on Ebay. None of these people have compensated me in any way except they sell what I wanted and couldn't find and they all had great customer service. Paul

  18. Folks, some good news for you stitchers State side, Stefan at Ludlow Leather in Chicago has started stocking Tiger Thread (Ritza25) and John James Needles. This should make life a lot easier for those wanting this thread. Nige http://ludlowleather.com/
  19. Good morning folks, still in the silly season so not had much time for posts, but I thought this was important. I've been told that there is a supplier of Tiger Thread and John James Needles in the US. Windmill English Saddle Supply,7186 Dewey Rd., Thompson, Ohio Zip code 44086 Phone number - (404)-298-3018. If you give it a try, can you let us know how you get on and what they have on offer? Nige
