ChelseaThom Report post Posted April 5, 2022 Hi, I'm new to leather craft and the skiving machine is causing me a lot of stress. I seem to have mastered many skills except for skiving... My skiving machine sucks in the leather in the end and rips it as shown in the picture. When I lessen the pressure on the pressure foot, the leather does not have enough grip to on on the feed. When I tighten the pressure foot the leather gets over skived and becomes very weak, uneven, and thin. Could it be that the leather is soft chrome tanned napa? Certainly it can be skived because there are leather goods made from soft leather. YES, I have sharpened the blades. It is very sharp and clean. Will getting a different pressure foot help?
