This is my foray into this style , while I love to look at others work and think it beautiful , it is just not for me . However I do believe I could learn a lot that would  help me in my carving .  So please let me hear what is close to right but more importantly  what is WRONG . I know there is not much there but I thought to keep it REAL simple to at least have something  to show .

I think it looks great!  keep up the good work.  I think there is a lot of detail in there, especially the finer cuts with the swivel knife.

I have  a lifter tool and have stropped it ( it is sharp ) but when I tried it on some scrap  I made a pretty big mess with it . I have watched youtube videos of different people using one but for some reason I just don't get it . Like I said I am not going to be doing this style but I know there are some things that can be learned that would carry over to  anything else I do .

Do you have the pro petal lifter, I made one out of a screwdriver after watching Kevin from SLC. They're tricky to use my next is the undercut beveler that watching Don Gonzales looks easier but he does that to a lot of tools.

Brother I don't know , I have been fooling with it some more . This is how I think I am supposed to use it  . Cut and do all the beveling , add some water  ( wet the top grain pretty good ) and then do the lifting . What ever tracks I leave can then either be beveled again or the matting tool will smooth them out . Does this sound right ?

LOL ! I may just be a slow learner , I watched that very video several times .  I'll get it figured out cause I am just that hard headed 

 

I may try and handle the big end so I can use it as he does .

Always easier said than done. I kind go over(under) as it's drying and it will keep it lifted more.

Just did this , still doesn't look right . I will let it dry and see if it improves .

The left side is better because you made it wider but needs a touch more lift but that's pretty spot on. Beveled over and antiqued that would looked good with relief cuts in the flower would all add together nicely when finished.
