Multi Tool Pancake Sheath Designs

Below are two pancake sheath designs I am considering making for a friend. Before I go and waste leather, does anyone see any inherent design flaws that would make these a "no go"? 

My friend is a big buy like me so I'm trying to make it ride pretty low on the belt and keep it from jabbing into his side all day. I plan on wet forming it to the tool so in the end the "pouch" part won't be rectangle but, it was just easier to draw out a rectangle. I was also thinking about hot dipping it because he is outside a lot hunting or working on his farm. Is hot dipping over kill? Tell me what you think!

Is this for a knife , as you mention hunting ?  I would have thought a good liberal coat  of oil...or two would be sufficient. 

 I'm no expert, but it looks pretty good to me.

I think its for a multi tool but yes a good coat of oil should do it

I  would have to go with the top design  and I would even like a little more forward cant .... but that is just a personal choice . I think it might look more to my liking to drop the back side of the pocket arch but again just a personal preference .

I made a multitool pouch not long ago for a friend . . . 

It lays along his belt . . .parallel to the belt . . . and he has no trouble with it.

That gets it up and out of the way of the pocket . . . and down and out of the way of any doughnut overlay that might happen 

I wet molded it and gave it a good couple of coats of resolene . . . 

He works in a steel mill . . . and he was tickled pink with it.

You say ; ride low on the belt'

To me those both look like high riders. I would take the upper-forward belt slot out further and up and the rear slot can move up and towards the sheath. Invert your drawings to see what I'm getting at

Thanks! It is for a Gerber multitool but he carries that thing everywhere. Sounds like everyone agrees a couple of coats of oil should do the trick.

I'll take a look at that. I just bought a couple of pounds of veg tan scraps so I may have to make more than one just to try out everybody's ideas.

I really like that idea Dwight! That's genius! Like I said above I just bought a few pounds of veg tan scraps so I'm probably going to try out a couple variations. I will let y'all see how they come out and how he likes them.

I think I see what you mean. Have the front belt slot even or higher than the top line of the sheath itself?

I had to go look . . . was not sure I took a picture of it . . . this was before it was finished . . . 

But it shows how it is carried . . . belt loop is sewn to the back of it . . . you can see the stitches . . . and it was a pain to go thru all the layers and still keep the machine on track.

I'm not all that good a sewer . . . especially on little stuff like this.

But he was absolutely thrilled . . . 

He wears in on the right side over top of his front pocket of his jeans.  Has no problem accessing the pocket.
