Almost finished with my new purple heart awl. A gifted block of purple heart was given to me for no reason. I was going to make knife scales from it. But I had already made one from another piece. So, while saddle stitching, I decided I wanted a new awl. Some can be very expensive. Okay...make your own. Here it is. Only thing left it to sharpen and polish the awl blade. Made the collar? tip from 303 stainless steel on my mini lathe. The rest was shaped with files and belt sander. Kept sanding until it felt really good in my hand.

What do you think?

beautiful work, love homemade tools

Worked in a prison for 30 years if I aint shiny every time I comment its no big deal, I just don't wave pompoms.

“I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” THE DUKE!

Thanks everyone!

Sharpened and polished with a punch out piece of leather to protect work piece.

WoW that's beautiful work...and to think I can't seem to sharpen an awl, let alone even think about making a haft.
