Members Gosut Posted March 29, 2023 Members Report Posted March 29, 2023 This one was by request from a relative who's checkbook cover has worn out. I used 5/6 ounce leather for the cover itself, and the 3/4 ounce I had on hand for the pockets. Thought I'd finished buffing this morning, but a smear the side of a thumb print showed up on the second photo by the stitching. Currently the project is folded over inside a shop towel with a book just heavy enough to hold it town on top, to give it a nice fold. First the photos: Stitching could be better. It took only 1/3 of the time as it did for my first project. My biggest foul-up isn't visible: I thought I could darken it enough with neatsfoot oil and stitched it before dyeing. Should have dyed it before punching the holes. It took a lot of buffing over the stitching to cut the rub-off before applying a 50/50 mix of Resolene (tm) in three coats over as meany days. Live and learn. Okay, so it's only 3rd project quality, but think it turned out better than the first. (The 2nd project was a simple strap work belt. Nothing special. That one made an appearance under "Still Buffing" in the Dyes area.) Quote
PastorBob Posted March 29, 2023 Report Posted March 29, 2023 I like the color you used. It is a nice rich color. Stitching doesn't look too bad either. Nice job. Keep up the work and make sure to share as you go. Always enjoy seeing what others are creating! I usually dye, oil, then apply the Resolene over a period of 3-4 days. Then, when it is finally fully dry/cured, I'll start stitching. Your dye is nice and even it seems, which many folks struggle with, so nicely done.
