Simplejack1985 Report post Posted March 18 Working on a carved power lifting belt, it's a surprise gift for someone. Ordered the 4" buckle from weaver. I cut my 4" strap from hermann-oak skirting. My poor strap cutter did not survive so I used my head knife. It's exactly 4" the whole length for the strap. I think im gonna bite the bullet and just order a vergez and blanchard plough gauge from rocky mountain leather.
Frodo Report post Posted March 19 Cutting a long strap by hand can be a stressful event. I see you used a straight edge and weights while you are out and about the town keep your eye out for a 8” C - clamp. You can use it to secure the straight edge to the table top. No more worries about the weight moving
toxo Report post Posted March 19 If you want to be sure of a dead straight line that's longer than your straight edge, try a piece of string with some chalk rubbed on it. Here's a more sophisticated version.
MarshalWill Report post Posted March 19 I'm looking forward to seeing your belt when it's done. Using a straight edge for long cuts is not all that hard. When I have to make a long straight cut, I use one of the large Vice Grip clamps to hold one end of the straight edge. I don't clamp it hard enough to leave a mark on the leather but enough to keep one end in place while I hold the other end by hand.

I've used them for construction On 3/19/2024 at 6:22 AM, MarshalWill said: I'm looking forward to seeing your belt when it's done. Using a straight edge for long cuts is not all that hard. Mablung Report post Posted March 26 Like it so far. Especially that thread color choice. My default is a dark brown, but that blue will look really good.
