What are tags? What do they do?

Posted

@Leathershark I just tagged you in this post in answer to your question.  It is used to send a notification to a member.  You can tag several members if need be when replying or asking for help.

You type the "@" symbol followed by the user/member name and pick it out of the popup box.  If you skipping picking it from the box, it will just be text with no notification to the member.

Tagging a member or quoting (using the quote feature) a portion of the post will send a notification to the member.  Sometimes members haven't setup notifications or they're not working, so tagging or quoting is helpful to ensure they get a notification.

Tags are keywords or labels that categorize content. They help organize, make content searchable, and improve discovery by linking related topics together.

Tags used here are for 'tagging' members and helps to ensure notifications get to the member tagged.  Not totally foolproof though.  They are not used pf indexing, are not keywords, are not labels, and do not categorize content.
