Members Albiero Posted January 11 Members Report Posted January 11 A few years ago I picked up a 29k58 that was in pretty rough shape and I tore it down to rebuild before finding some unfixable issues. Last year I found a 29k70 at a yard sale with its treadle both in their original shipping crates from the Scottish factory so I made the leap that it had been better taken care of. It was almost as bad but visually much nicer so I used it as a base and mixed and matched parts as necessary before I had one whole machine. I've managed to get it to sew pretty consistently so long as the needle has a fairly long scarf (I'm using 135x16 needles) and I don't use the darning function, but there seems to be some sort of timing issue. I've maxed out the movement on the adjustment screw and it still seems to be starting late. The hook should pass by the needle during the slight raise that the needle bar does while it's down, correct? Mine is currently passing by immediately after that when the needle is starting to drop back down before it fully rises back up. So long as I have the needle adjusted to nearly or just barely contact the hook I can get it to sew pretty consistently but if anyone has any other thoughts on ways I could adjust out that last 1/16" I'd appreciate it. My guess is that the gears are worn beyond their ability to time the machine within specs. Or, the driving pinion gear might be loose on the shaft that has the shuttle driver on top. There is a small set screw that's accessible from the rear side of the nose, via a hole. If you line up the gear just right you can get a small blade screw driver on it and tighten it if it was loose. That would be the cheapest fix. It's unusual for the eccentric screw under the main body to get worn out, but hey... Flakey sewing is often caused by a worn paddle spring. If there is a thread channel gouged into the spring, or the needle bar, then the loop will dissolve before pick-off time. Quote

I have gears and pinions. Contact me. Some are original Simanco parts. Quote
