So I was thinking of salvaging leather from old saddles, English and Western.  Wondering if anyone has any pointers on this? How much workable leather is obtained, how much of a pain is it to strip one down, etc etc etc… is it worth it?

any information would be most appreciated

thank you in advance

This maker creates beautiful bags from English saddles.  https://www.calyse-co.com/  I think the value is in the artistic reinterpretation of a saddle's features, not the leather itself.  Creating a keepsake from a worn out saddle.

Thank you for that. He's using all sorts of tack. Not just saddles. How inventive. I love the way he does his holes for collar buttons.

What ideas do you have planned the leather?

Smaller things, wallets, card holders, bits and pieces.  Possibly some tool holster type things.
