Members DoubleKCustomLeathercraft Posted March 29 Members Report Posted March 29 (edited) I got a call from my client that I made "the hand of God" for a few years back. This time he sent me a picture of a holster that he wanted a cartridge belt for, made to match is current saddle and rifle scabbard and holster. With some discussion we decided that a buscadero style belt would work best for what he wants to use it for. He requested a tapered belt instead of a ranger. A slight modification to an old tandy pattern and I was set. He'll be in the saddle moving cattle mainly. The buscadero is a bit more forgiving and comfortable in the waist when seated in a saddle (in my opinion) He also requested that I match hardware with his current saddle and scabbard. Well anyone who's done this long enough know how tall that order can really be. Especially when said hardware is over 30 years old. After searching and exhausting just about every resource available, from vintage to new, I could only get close and in the wrong size at that. So I let him know, and sent him some suggestions on buckle sets that he might like that were similar in style anyway. He chose a beautiful buckle set that I feel really made this belt shine. I can't post a video, but here's a couple pics. Hard to show this belt off with just pictures. If you can, Chan my IG account for the build series. The veiner and seed stamp border are there to match his rifle scabbard and saddle straps. Copper rivets were used on both the holster and scabbard, so I brought those into the design with the bullet loop ends and the buckle setting. 32 loops for 357/38 6 in the wheel gun 12 in the lever gun A full box of ammo can be carried at a time. He told me to put as many loops as possible, and it just happened to work out perfectly. I can't emphasize enough how much I love the buckle he chose to go with. Materials list ChahinLeather natural double shoulder veg tan belt and loops Weaver water buffalo lining Reinforced through the wide section/bullet loops with a bag stiffener Ritza Tiger thread 1.0mm creme #9 and #12 copper rivet/bur pinged by hand for texture to bring in some of the original equipment accents. Found the buckle on Etsy. Feibings pro dye layered and blended. Mahogany, dark brown, and a mix of dark brown/black, applied in steps in that order. A coat of Montana leather pitch blend oil. If you haven't tried this oil, I highly recommend you do! Feibings leather balm finish (3 coats) Edited March 29 by DoubleKCustomLeathercraft Quote I post most of my work on IG now. Members Thadrick Posted March 29 Members Report Posted March 29 I wear my pistol when riding dirt bikes in the forest. That is the belt design I have good luck with. It's even comfortable to wear when I'm at the race track with my 450R. It's a good choice in my opinin Quote
CFM chuck123wapati Posted March 29 CFM Report Posted March 29 Beautiful workmanship. That buckle set is sharp. Quote Worked in a prison for 30 years if I aint shiny every time I comment its no big deal, I just don't wave pompoms. “I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” THE DUKE!
Members JDFred Posted March 29 Members Report Posted March 29 That is sharp. The buckle set fits it nicely. Have you ever looked at cow puncher buckles? It might be another place to look next time you’re trying to match hardware. Quote

Members MarshalWill Posted March 31 Members Report Posted March 31 (edited) That's a beautiful belt. The copper rivets not only last under any conditions but they look good, too. A hand peened rivet adds character. Nice buckle set. Excellent finish on it, too. It's what I look to get with Skidmore's. I can't stand the glossy plastic-looking finishes. They don't allow the leather to show off it's natural beauty. I'll have to look into that Montana leather pitch blend oil. Outstanding work. For my own belts, I prefer tapered also. Ranger style belts seem too restrictive. Double thumbs-up here! Edited March 31 by MarshalWill Quote
