Members joetroba Posted March 30 Members Report Posted March 30 I picked up this dual feed skiver on marketplace and trying to find more information about it. Make, model, parts, etc. There is not blade cover and there doesnt appear to be any mounting holes for one compared to models I have seen online. Looking at the color scheme it and the right side belt cover it is very close to a Fortuna (I doubt it), but it has zero markings that I can find anywhere, other than what appears to be a serial number on the back (picture included). Any help would be appreciated. It seems to work pretty well and I am considering adding a second motor to separate cutter and feed. Thanks Quote
Members mbnaegle Posted June 2 Members Report Posted June 2 Not a Fortuna. It's a Taiwan or China clone like Taking or one of the many other names importing them. They base the design off of older Fortuna's, but parts don't interchange. Things like blades, belts, feet, and grind stones should be available. The newest Fortuna's are white and grey like that, but completely different machines. If it works and it's cheap, it might work just fine, but I'd hold out for a newer Fortuna, or one of the Italian makes like FAV, Atom, or Sagitta. Most European skivers made since the 1970's are still supported and well made machines. Older ones were good machines, but parts start to become obsolete. The imported ones can be a gamble in terms of quality and part availability. Quote
Trox Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago (edited) Pretty sure this is an Italian machine, not sure what brand but it could be an Alpha SM. There was plenty of older Italian brands. I recognize the way it's built and the colors, typically Italian 1970 to 1980 style machine. They make great leather machines the Italians.
